Wendi pulled her blond locks from her face as she hopped down from Lori’s horse Janardan. “He rides a bit bumpy, eh?” A voice asked out of eyesight. Wendi turned her, hand on her chest. She breathed out when she realized who it was. “Surprised that I’m at my own house?” Emory asked hopping up on the fence to the paddock. Wendi nodded as she petted Janardan and pulled off her helmet as her feet hit the ground. She eyed Emory. “Carr said that I’d be the only one here. He took the rest to your Uncle Archibald’s, told me to stay. It seems the man is intolerable and he didn’t want me to have to face that. But, apparently they have to go once a year.” Wendi started blandly eying Emory. He nodded. “Yep, the pact.” He said not even looking at Wendi. She raised an eyebrow as he finally looked at her. “See Archibald, is the only family my mother still has and even though she is never going to come back, he insists on seeing her kids once a year. In return we will all receive a great deal of money when we graduate school.” He said slyly looking to Wendi. “And it just so happens that Archibald is the only dignified person in this family.” Wendi rolled her eyes. “I love this family. More than you ever will. So quit verbally attacking them, they’ve never done anything to you. And stay away from me.” Wendi called walking towards the house. But, Emory just followed her. “And you would know all about family wouldn’t you Parson.”
Wendi turned abruptly, a look of anger and vengeance in her eyes. “What did you say?” She asked with clinched fists. “C’mon Wendi. You heard me and I know you’re not stupid so don’t pretend that you are.” He said walking towards her as anger still flickered in her eyes. “I have a family.” She said bluntly. “Please. You have a brother and grandparents.” Wendi shook her head. “And an uncle and cousin who I love.” Emory offered an evil smile. “Aren’t you forgetting someone?” He asked slyly. Wendi stared at him, trying not to punch him. “Who else?” She asked. “My Uncle Keith? The guy who murdered my parents?” Emory smirked. “C’mon Wendi. You know there is a lot more to Keith Parson than murder. You know that you want to talk to him, see what he has to say. Because on the inside, you’re an outcast just like him.” Wendi took a few steps closer to Emory. Finally, she gave in. “So, what?” She asked. “So what if I do? So what if I feel like maybe he can understand me? In the end, Keith will only use me for what needs to be done and then kill me. That’s what he does Emory.” She paused. “I don’t know how you met Keith, but stay away. And don’t think I’m stupid. You’re here to get closer to me, right?” She asked with an arched eyebrow. Emory stared at her blankly. “See, he might be powerful and cruel, but he’s not that smart. After you get closer to me, and you won’t, he doesn’t need you anymore. So, stop talking to him and stay away.” She said not wanting someone else to suffer Keith Parson’s wrath. “This is different.” Emory said as Wendi started to turn to walk into the house. “Is it?” Wendi asked. “Do you really think you’re the first person that he has gotten do to the same thing you're doing?” She asked smirking a bit. “Didn’t think so.” She responded to Emory’s stare at the ground. Wendi then headed for the house.
“Did you know that Emory’s working for Keith.” Wendi asked right as Carr stepped from the Floo Network. The other kids were walking around the room, but as they realized that this couldn’t be good, they ran out. Carr thought about joking but he knew that it would only make her angrier. “Yes.” Wendi looked aghast. “Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked. “Wendi, I only found out a couple of days ago. And I wasn’t going to say anything until I knew for sure that Emory wasn’t going to do anything stupid.” He said trying to hold Wendi’s hand, but she only pulled away. Wendi shook her head and walked around Carr. “You should have told me, but that isn’t the problem right now.” She started speaking glaring at Carr. “He’s working for Keith. He’s working to get closer to me. He’s doing a crappy job, but that isn’t the point. You have to get his to stop, Carr. This could and probably will kill him. Keith regrets nothing.” Carr shook his head. “How do you know all this about Keith? You’ve barely spoken to him all your life besides those custody hearings when you were younger.” He said taking steps towards Wendi. Wendi sighed not wanting to state the real truth. “Umm, I dunno. He’s family.” She lied. How could she possibly explain to Carr that she and her murderer uncle had stuff in common? She couldn’t. “So, what now?” Wendi asked him as Wendi took both her hands in his. “We help Emory.” He said simply.
“Emory!” Wendi and Carr called walking into his room. But, he wasn’t in there. Nope, but Diem was. She eyed Wendi and Carr lying on Emory’s bed. “Where did he go?” Carr asked. Diem shook her head. “He packed up though. I doubt he’s going to Uncle A’s though. It’s freezing up there and he didn’t pack anything cold.” Wendi eyed Carr as Diem spoke. “How does she know all this?” She asked. Carr sighed for a moment. “Me and Carr have never trusted Emory, so I watch him when he’s home.” She said simply. “Carr..” Wendi said sternly. “Not now Wendi. We have to find Emory before Keith does, okay?” He asked. Wendi nodded as she followed Carr out of the room. “Where are you going? No one knows where Keith is!” Wendi called after Carr who was running down the hall. “I have an idea. Watch them all, okay?” He asked running to the Floo Network. Wendi nodded and then looked to Diem. “Will he be okay?” She asked. Diem nodded and smiled a tad. “He always is. Have faith Wend.” She said smiling. Wendi nodded hugging Diem, but her eyes were still looking to the last place she saw Carr.
