Iyashii Apparated in the lobby of St. Mungo’s hospital. It was clean, but he could feel death all around him. It made him cringe a little, but he still smiled. It was a paradox something which everyone looked to for safety and repair still housed the very thing that they feared: death. He laughed, causing the witch at the desk to look up from her paper work. She smiled nervously and Iyashii strode up in fron tof her. “I’m here to see my mother.” The witch smiled and replied, “Her name, dear?” Iyashii gave his mother’s name and the witch told him that she was on the third floor and the rest of his family was already up there. He thanked her and headed for the third floor in silence. In all honesty, he was a bit nervous to face her, the woman who gave him life…and he was taking hers away.
He exited the elevator and stood in the hallway, oppsite his father. He was standing there staring at him, like he knew something Iyashii did not. “I did not think you would come…”
Iyashii rolled his eyes, “Why wouldn’t I?”
Kenichi looked at the ground and smiled, then shook his head; “Your guilt has always driven you away. Go in and see her, she only has the rest of today.”
Iyashii frowned, “You don’t know anything.” How could he know anything? It’s impossible, I was careful! His mind was racing. If his father knew the truth, would the love for Sakaeru cause him to report his own son? Iyashii pushed past his father and entered the hospital room. There he saw her, beautiful as ever. His mother looked at him as if she had not seen him in years. Rin and Kuramu were at her feet as if she were a goddess they were praying to. It was a scene that Iyashii almost could not bear.
“Sweetie, are you alright?” his mother asked, tilting her head worriedly. Iyashii nodded his head, as Rin got to her feet and hugged him tightly.
“I’m glad you made it, Iyashii…” she smiled, as she passed him to leave the room. Kuramu got to his feet and smiled at his brother, he said nothing, but Iyashii felt that he too, was glad Iyashii was there. Auntie said nothing also, but whispered in her sister’s ear that she would be back later. The room was empty and Iyashii felt suffocated.
“Sit down, darling…” Sakaeru replied, patting the bed next to her. “I think we should talk.”
Iyashii did as he was told, watching his mother as if she were going to stab him in the heart at any moment. He was not sure what they had to say to each other…there was nothing to say. He was not going to apologize for what he did, it was a sacrifice that had to be made. Sakaeru reached out and patted his hand, “I love you, Iyashii…you know that, right?” He said nothing and she continued, “When you suggested that we meet for lunch once a month…it warmed my heart. I thought, that maybe, just maybe you would learn to let me in. I wanted to help you.”
“I don’t need your help,” he snapped, narrowing his eyes at her. She smiled, “I know, you’re a big boy who has to make his own decisions…and I know the one you’ve made.”
His eyes widened in fear, Here it comes…
“At first, I could not understand why you would want me dead…but then I realized you didn’t…and that’s why it failed,” she said slowly.
He looked at her angrily, “What do you mean…failed?”
