Wynd hurried as fast as he could from the Shrieking Shack. Yes, hurried. To hell with what his father said about hurrying. He hurried! Wynd had to get as far away from Ruby as possible. She.... she..... she lied! She lied to him. She had lied straight to his face! Ruby. Lied. Ruby lied. Ruby lied. The thought kept repeating itself in his head. He had to put as much distance as he could between himself and his sister. As soon as he turned away from the stunned Valmer and Ruby he started running. If there was one thing that Wynd was better than Ruby at, it was running. He could out distance her without too much trouble. He hoped that Valmer wasn’t a runner. Another part of him secretly did. He would gladly punch Valmer in the face. Yes, he would resort to muggle methods. What was he talking about!? Muggle methods? Wynd was upset but there was no way he would ever resort so low. He was still a wizard after all. He would curse Valmer like there was no tomorrow. He was so upset that he might even use an unforgivable curse. NO! Wynd was still a rational human being. There was no reason to jeopardize his future. His secret desire for Valmer to follow him quickly died away.
At the turn to Hogwarts or Hogsmeade, Wynd chose Hogsmeade. He didn’t want to go back to school. If he did return to school he would just go to the dorm. Back to where Valmer and he had shared a room for five years. Wynd was disgusted. How long had Valmer been watching his sister? All those times that Wynd had volunteered information to him, was that data collection? Valmer was not a bad person. Wynd actually enjoyed having Valmer as a roommate. But to think, all this time he had a crush on Ruby? The thought made him sick. That’s why she was in the courtyard that night. That’s why he had returned to the room so late. The missed clues infuriated Wynd. How could he have not seen? He knew that Ruby was in a good mood all this week but he had no idea why and now it seemed so clear. Why? WHY? It was fine if Ruby wanted to have a boyfriend. That was her business. But it became personal when she tried to hide it from him. What did she think his reaction would be? Anger? Hate? Jealousy? It wouldn’t have been if she had been truthful with him. Wynd was all right with Valmer as a boyfriend. He was better than a lot of other boys. He was worried for a time that she was going to go after Kennedy after he had broken up with Fiona. Wynd still didn’t understand that. Fiona was gorgeous. But that was all old news. Ruby had lied to him. Ruby. LIED. Wynd felt like his whole world was going to fall apart.
Wynd rushed into the town full of students not really noticing where he was going. He literally ran into some fourth year Gryffindors but he didn’t stop. Not even to sneer. They didn’t deserve an apology anyway. They had mudbloods in that house. His feet seemed to be thinking faster than his head because before he knew it he was outside the Hogshead. A joint known to have a darker outlook than many of the other stores in town. He took a quick breath. Now that he had stopped running, he realised how cold the air was on this cold autumn day. He pushed his way into the place. It was crowded in there. That was perfect. Wynd didn’t want to be seen or talk to anybody. He just wanted to order a drink and be left with his thoughts. He approached the bar and ordered a drink. He paid for it and then took a seat at a table in the back corner. There, the lighting was not very good so it would be difficult for others to recognise him. Wynd drank his drink in silence letting himself get lost in the noise of the place.
