Ezzie rose from her bed, just as the sun rose above the horizon. She noticed the pale orange glow that was set upon the entire room, but only Ezzie noticed it. Everyone else in her dormitory was still sleeping of course, but Ezzie couldn’t. All night she had twisted and turned in her bed, trying to fall into a fitful sleep. Her efforts were worthless though, as she hadn’t gotten more than ten minutes of sleep on that Friday night. Ezzie dressed herself quickly and quietly, for she had become very skilled at such things over the years. Ezzie was always an early riser, but who wouldn’t be with all the work that was set upon this poor fourteen year old girl? Over the years, she had completely ignored various child labor laws by working midnight shifts at five star hotels and working late into the night recording a song. There was only one difference between what Ezzie was doing now and what she had been doing before. Now, whenever Ezzie completed a new song, it was aired all over the world. Six months ago, Ezzie was cleaning toilets and fixing supper for strangers. She had even saved lives in the hotel swimming pool, but no one had ever taken notice of that. Ezzie rolled her eyes as she slipped on her robes, trying not to think about the past, but the future. Now, Ezzie had to worry about going to Hogsmeade (yet again), but this time it was not to rehearse lyrics for a song or practice her performances. This time, Ezzie was going to see her mother, the mother that had tried to murder her a mere four years ago, and Ethan Jacobs would be there to see it all happen.
Ezzie shuddered at the thought as she sneaked out of the dormitory and walked into the warm Gryffindor common room. She took a seat across the fireplace and reached into her pocket as she waited for Ethan to arrive. She didn’t know why he had to even come. Ezzie and Ethan had been over for weeks, and there seemed to be no chance of the couple getting back together. Ethan was with that Amber Hess girl now, and Ezzie had to accept that. Even though she was sorry about all the mistakes she made when it involved Ethan, that didn’t change the fact that he didn’t want Ezzie back. Ezzie and Ethan seemed perfect for each other, but Ezzie just had to mess things up time and time again, just to make her life just a bit more interesting than it already was. That wasn’t Ezzie’s real intention of course, but it did seem to end up that way. She sighed as she un-crumpled the letter that still lay in her robe pocket from the other day. She read through it once more.
Dear Ezzie, I have amazing news for you. Someone has just arrived at the manor and is asking for you. At first I really didn’t believe it was really her, and I’m still not sure if I do. There’s only one way to prove this woman really is your mother. That’s right, I said mother. Her name is Elena and with a bit of help from my personal translator, I’ve been able to communicate with her. She wants me to tell you this: Mi niña querida es mi única amor.
Please reply back as soon as possible. Until you reply, I don’t know whether to believe her or not. You know what, forget that. I’ll bring her over to Hogsmeade next Saturday, and if you meet me there, you can see her for yourself. Oh, and please do bring Ethan along, I would like to have a word with my son. But no worries! Make sure he knows he’s not in trouble…for once.
Much Love,
Amanda Jacobs
P.S. I do hope you and Ethan are doing okay. (and staying out of trouble of course) You two make such an adorable couple. Oh and Alex says hello. Ezzie smiled bit as she lay the letter down a=on her lap. She stared out the window for what seemed like a lifetime, and suddenly, she heard a voice call out to her. She looked up and tried not to look into Ethan’s enchanting blue eyes. “Well it took you long enough.” She said almost sourly, still trying to avoid looking him in the eyes.

Ethan yawned as he rose from his comfortable bed at Hogwarts. All his dorm mates were up and about, searching for lost socks or scrambling to get to the bathroom first. He merely sighed. Today was not going to be fun…not one little bit. He would be spending the entire damn afternoon with his overprotective mother and his crazy psycho ex-girlfriend, along with her long lost mother. Ezzie Mendez had been the love of his life, the only person who had ever kept Ethan’s interest for more than just a week. She had succeeded in changing the ‘flirtatious’ Ethan Jacobs into a one woman’s man. She had become world famous with her first song ‘Bluebird’ which Ethan had helped to write, and yet she still kept thinking that every little word some random girl told her was true. That was the trouble with girls these days. They believed far too much gossip. If some kid told him Ezzie had been caught red handed doing anything, Ethan would confront Ezzie before he jumped to conclusions. Ezzie somehow didn’t seem to understand that aspect of things. If someone had told Ezzie she was a bunny rabbit, she probably would have believed it. He rolled his eyes as he walked out of the dormitory into the common room, where Ezzie was waiting there, staring out of a window as if she were on some other planet. He walked through the doorway that led into the common room and waved half heartily. Ezzie did not look away from the window.
“So…are you ready to go..?”He said, his sentence trailing off. When Ethan didn’t want to be in someone else’s company, he would never finish his sentence, for he was so lazy, and obviously he didn’t want to be there. Ezzie still didn’t look away from the window. Perhaps she was ignoring Ethan? He sighed as he walked straight in front of her, waving his arms to try to get her attention. “Calling Ezzie Mendez, this is earth calling agent Mendez!” She finally looked up and said something snotty. Ethan wasn’t listening though, he was just so simply absorbed in the scene just behind Ezzie. There were two girls there, and both looked extremely gorgeous. He couldn’t really help but stare. “Ah, always with the killer sense of humor.” He said, just as bitterly as Ezzie had said it. “Now, can we please get out of here so we can get this boring day over with so we can get on with our lives?” Ethan knew that Ezzie would be offended by the comment, but his main goal right now was to make her angry anyway. Ezzie nodded silently as she slipped a strange piece of parchment inside her robe pocket. It looked like it had been passed around many, many hands. Since the parchment was so crumpled and old looking, it looked like an ancient document of some sort. He erased the small unimportant thought from her head and walked behind Ethan to the great oak front doors, where there were invisible carriages awaiting the pair, and of course, the rest of the students.

Ezzie did not laugh when Ethan commented on her sense of humor like she would have three months ago. She didn’t smile lovingly at him like she used to. She merely looked at him, with a blank expression that was almost cold and bitter as he spoke. She stuffed Amanda’s letter in her pocket very gingerly as she walked in front of Ethan out of the common room. As they entered the corridors together, people started to get the wrong idea. Ethan didn’t seem to notice but Ezzie couldn’t help but think she wanted people to get the wrong idea. Ezzie shook her head, as if to tell everyone it was not what they thought, and that she and Ethan were not back together again. Even the fat lady was watching intently to see what was going to happen. In their opinion, there was either going to be a huge make-up scene or a huge fight. Most people (and Ezzie even had to admit this herself) knew that when it came to matters of Ezzie and Ethan, things were always extremely dramatic. She walked through the corridors silently, trying to avoid the stares of the many people walking along the corridors by listening to the rhythmic tapping of her feet as they hit the floor. Even though there were so many people around, her feet and the feet of Ethan were the only ones that could be heard echoing throughout the halls. Casey Allen, Ezzie’s best friend since forever could be spotted amongst that crowd. Ezzie merely waved sadly. Ezzie had already told her what was going on today and while Ezzie was happy about seeing her mother again, she made it clear to Casey that she didn’t want to be spending that much time with Ethan so soon after their break-up. She continued to walk, leaving Casey with nothing but a wave.
After what seemed like hours, the former couple arrived at the oak front doors, where they went straight for the carriage that already had someone in it. The small Hufflepuff girl smiled and then walked out of the carriage. She must have thought they were on some kind of date. Ezzie tried not to laugh. Ethan and Ezzie were over, and the connection between them had been severed so completely that it could not be put back together again. Ezzie knew how many random people pressured her to go back out with Ethan, and to be honest, Ezzie would do it in a heartbeat if she had a choice. But Ethan wasn’t willing to come back. She had to just smile and laugh when someone said things like “Oh, but you must get back together! You guys were just so cute! You actually made me believe that there really is such a thing as true love.”Ezzie had always started to get emotional when someone said things like that. Ezzie had believed for a while that she was truly in love with Ethan, but it was all a lie. She and Ethan were never meant to be. She sighed and looked down at her hands, which rested on her lap. Ethan took the seat across from her. She looked up when he spoke.
“Wow, so I guess everyone seems to believe we’re a couple again, don’t they?” Ezzie looked up and tried to smile, but failing horribly. Her blank expression remained glued to her face. It had been there ever since the break-up. She had been practically emotionless, except for maybe sometimes, she tended to feel hot, burning anger. It seemed that lately, it was either anger and fury, or nothing at all. Not once in the past month had Ezzie’s face even broken into a small smile. She sighed again. “Yeah, it’s like everyone loves to see us together. But ah well, I guess they’re going to have to find a new dream couple to fawn over.” She shrugged.
“I guess so.” He said, glancing out the window. They could see Hogsmeade approaching. “So how are you and Amber?” She asked quietly, almost second guessing her own question. Before he could answer though, the carriage stopped abruptly, and she noticed the ever so familiar sensation of a million camera flashes going off all at once, right in her face. She sighed. It was the lovely prophet again. They seemed to have noticed the trend. Both Ezzie and Ethan had gone to every Hogsmeade visit this year. The only difference was one week, Ethan was with Ezzie, the next week, he wasn’t. Somehow, the press had gotten wind of Ezzie and Ethan supposedly being back together once more. She rolled her eyes. Couldn’t they get it in their thick little heads that she and Ethan were over for good this time?

Ezzie sighed as the reporters swarmed around the pair excitedly. Even they were getting the wrong idea. There was one skinny red headed woman that had become very familiar to Ezzie, for she had been the most persistent every time Ezzie visited the school and pushed to the front of the crowd. “Ezzie!” She called out, trying to keep the other competitors behind her. “I see you’re with Ethan today! Tell us, are you too back together? Ethan, what happened to that other girl?” Ezzie rolled her eyes. She couldn’t believe she hadn’t expected this before. She tried to push past the crowd of people to get to the Three Broomsticks, where she could already see Amanda Jacobs’ slim cloaked figure, along with a slightly shorter figure just next to her. There was also a small man with glasses there, and Ezzie guessed that he was Amanda’s translator. Suddenly, Ezzie found herself unable to speak. She just smiled a wide grin and ran over to the Three Broomsticks, leaving Ethan behind to be interrogated. She completely forgot anyone else was around her, for all she could see was the cloaked figure (who didn’t look very comfortable in the cloak…Elena probably wasn’t used to wearing witches clothes.) of her mother. “Mami!” She cried out with joy. The figure turned around and smiled brightly. Elena looked almost exactly the same, only now she had more wrinkles and a few white hairs. She was too slim as well, and her bones could be easily seen. She ran up and hugged her mother, not daring to let go. Suddenly, she felt a camera flash on her back and reluctantly let go. “Everyone! Come into the Three Broomsticks! Rosmerta has got a private room for us all to avoid the media.” She heard the small man translate in Spanish and Elena nodded and walked inside. There were many people inside the Three Broomsticks, but that was to be expected of course. Everyone turned to stare as three very famous people walked in with two mystery people. No one knew who these extra two were, but everyone stood and stared as the crowd walked inside the private room, followed by crazed reporters. Quick-Quotes-Quills were hovering around everywhere. Ezzie walked into the small dingy room with her mother by her side. Ezzie’s doubts about coming here had vanished completely. There was one table in the center of the room and Ezzie took a seat. Elena smiled at Ezzie and kept telling her it was amazing to see her back and that she couldn’t believe how much Ezzie had grown. She kept saying how proud she was of Ezzie, and how very sorry she was for leaving her. “Ezzie has come so far over the years. She’s one of the youngest singers out there.” Amanda said with a smile. Her translator translated the words into Spanish for her. Elena smiled, saying she couldn’t believe she had missed so much. Ezzie hugged her mother once more and Elena whispered the same words that were in her letter. "Mi niña querida es mi única amor." Ezzie felt a small tear of joy slide down her face. She looked around the room. Ethan was sitting just next to her. He gave her a small warm smile. Ezzie had so much love in her heart now that she didn’t have any room left to hate Ethan. “Now before we get into those lovely family reunion stories, I have an announcement to make.” Amanda said standing up. Ezzie didn’t want the small man to translate for her mother. She wanted to do that herself. Ezzie jumped in and translated the sentence for her mother. After everyone was in understanding that Amanda had an announcement, they all looked up to watch. She smiled and looked mainly toward Ethan. “I’m having a baby.” She said, a wide grin spreading across her face. Ezzie stood in shock for a moment, and then clued her mother in on the news. She smiled at Amanda. Ezzie knew she should hate her mother for trying to kill Ezzie so many years ago, but somehow, after seeing her for the first time in four years and hearing the news about Amanda and the Jacobs, she just couldn’t hate her own mother. All Ezzie had in her heart right now was love. Pure love.
