Jasmine made her way through the mobs of students piling out from the classrooms. The last class of the day had ended and Jasmine had hoped to make it to the Student Lounge to avoid the large crowds. Unfortunately it took longer to finish her homework than she thought. She only had one free bell that day which meant she got out earlier than most students. The best part of being a sixth year was that you could take the courses you were the best at and concentrate on the future. Jasmine still didn't quite know what hers had in store. She wanted to become a healer like her mother, but what about horses? There weren't any jobs in the magical world with horses, but maybe she could still own a few and ride in her free time. Jasmine didn't want to give up either, so why not do both? She could become a healer and ride her horses in spare time. Her Aunt Lana approved of the career path and thought it suited well for her niece. Still, Jasmine still had some time to think it through. After all, she was still a teenager and wanted to have as many memories as she could about Hogwarts. So far that wasn’t going quite well. For four years she was antisocial because of her quiet and shy side, until she met Dana, who helped her grow more. Now with Dana gone, Jasmine hadn’t fallen back into her shy ways, but more quiet and down to earth. She learned to cope with her friend being gone and kept her mind busy with other things.
Opening the double doors to the Student Lounge she walked inside toward the couches. Setting down the shoulder bag on with a loud thump she plopped down onto the cousins. Leaning further back into the couch she rolled her neck around in circles creating cracking noises. Unclasping the clasp of the bag, Jasmine took out a notebook and pen setting it on the free space next to her while she closed the bag back up. Turning the notebook open to a clean page, she set it down on her lap while bringing her knees up to her chest. Normally when Jasmine had free time she would read or maybe even try to find Vanessa or Sapphire to hang out with and talk too, but she hadn’t written a song for a while. Her inspiration had gone out the window ever since school started back up. Classes, Quidditch, homework, and her job at the Cubby took up most of her time. When the thought about the Cubby came up Jasmine remembered that she had to work tomorrow after Arithmancy class. Luckily, she loved her job and was friends with almost all the employees and Cat herself.
Sighing with frustration that not a single word would come out, she slumped to the floor. Putting the notebook down in front of her, Jasmine ran her fingers through her dark hair wishing that Vanessa was there. Jasmine would normally only write when her best friend was around. Vanessa was what you call a music freak. She played the piano wonderfully and wrote beautiful songs. Jasmine wasn’t much of a music freak, but enjoyed horseback riding more than anything else. Looking around the room for a familiar face she noticed that there were quite a few people around. Since the weather was beginning to get cold outside, everyone made the Student Lounge a hangout point. Watching with curious eyes as a group of little first years ran by in front of her she saw her note book kicked across the floor. It skidded across the carpet until stopping by one of the tables. Quickly going after the book she reached out a hand for it until someone had already snatched it up.

So many people – laughing and chattering, just happy to be with their friends. And Nasser was on his own, going about his studies, his prefect duties, his Quidditch practice and all the time conscious of this empty void inside him – dramatic words he knew – but it was what he felt. It was too much, wanting to laugh with her, explain how he felt, look into those mischievous eyes of hers as she talked to him – they'd had an amazing connection, despite their differences and the completely different way they went about things each of them always understood perfectly what the other was trying to express. He was still missing her – and it brought back memories of all the people he'd been friends with and had left for reasons of their own and sometimes for reasons beyond their control – Sethia, Perseus, Dare, and Dana. And try as he might Nasser just felt you didn’t come across people like that many times in your lifetime. He'd loved them all in different ways, but all of them had meant as much as each other to him. But with Dana he'd been growing up, grown to know the value of friendship and how hard it was to find the real thing.
Nasser had a book in his hands with the title, "So You Want to Be a Healer?" He'd been given the book during Careers Advice last year, and he'd never gotten round to reading it, and he figured he'd better get that done pretty soon if it was really his life's ambition. But he wanted to be around. He usually didn’t like doing his reading in the middle of many people, but today he wanted to because he just didn’t want to be on his own and the common room was too loud. He was kidding himself into believing the Student Lounge might be quieter but Nasser felt like a walk anyway, so if it was too loud he'd go to the grounds or the courtyard. Truth be told he didn’t quite know what to do with himself and it was taking him time this year to settle back into his proper studying and reading patterns, his mind was occupied with other things.
The Student Lounge was rather quiet, or at least one corner of it was, only one girl was there sitting on one of the comfortable couches. Nasser didn't really notice her till she dropped her notebook, and he happened to be walking right by it on his way to the couch next to the one she was seated on. H politely picked it up to hand it to her and when he looked at her face he recognised her at once. "Jasmine, isn’t it?" he said, and he suddenly found it in him to smile. She'd been Dana's friend if he remembered correctly. She'd had many friends and acquaintances.

Jasmine slowly looked up into the person’s face, sitting down on the back of her legs. He looked quite familiar and seemed to know who she was by calling out her first name. Nodding her head at him, she took the notebook from his hands while standing up from the ground. “Yep, that’s me, Jasmine Anderson. Thank you,” she said returning the same friendly smile. Jasmine took a closer look at this boy, recognizing him from a couple of classes and even from the Quidditch pitch. He was also a really close friend of Dana’s. Jasmine secretly found herself wondering how he was dealing with the whole situation with Dana. The name finally popped into her mind as she took a seat back down on the couch. “Your Nasser right? I don’t remember your last name though. I’m really bad with names,” she asked while putting the notebook back into the shoulder bag on that was on the ground. Looking back toward Nasser she smiled before saying more, “You can sit down if you want.” She hoped that he would, but would still understand if he didn’t. It was just always good to have a little company, especially since Vanessa was hanging around that Jeremiah boy a lot lately. Making a mental note to find her best friend, Jasmine looked at the book that was in Nasser’s arms. “So You Want to Be a Healer,” she read, remembering reading that book earlier on in the year. Jasmine didn’t really know exactly what she wanted to do after Hogwarts, and the only thing that seemed interesting was being a healer. There were also horses, but Jasmine didn’t like to think much of that, but instead concentrated more on her classes. “I’m guessing that you want to be a healer?” she finally spoke, pointing toward the book. ((Its not the longest post, but you can still write to it. Long post are no fun to read, and reply to sometimes. ))

“Your welcome, it’s Salah, I remember Dana mentioning you to me before,” he said with a quick smile. “Thank you, I will if you don’t mind,” he said, sitting down with his legs crossed Indian style. “Yes. At least, it’s the option I find most appealing, I’m studying Ancient Runes as a NEWT in case that doesn’t work out, because I might consider becoming a translator in that case,” he said. Nasser decided he could open up to Jasmine because she’d been Dana’s friend. “I have some doubts abut becoming a Healer, it seems like such a huge responsibility, and so much to learn, and I’m afraid of some the things I’ll see. But I guess that’s what Healing is all about, getting over how you feel and thinking about the importance of doing all you can to save patient’s lives,” he said. “Have you thought about what you want to do after Hogwarts?” he asked her.

Jasmine looked over her shoulder at Nasser as he mentioned the name, Dana Coran. She blinked at him a couple of times before looking away. “Really....What did she say about me?” Jasmine asked quite curious on what her friend would say about her. Dana had been a close friend of hers, until she moved away with Kris. There was plenty enough drama going around in the sixteen year olds life. Dana’s grandparents dying, Kris going blind, everything in Dana’s life was so unpredictable. Was Jasmine’s life really that boring? All she ever did was go horseback riding, read, study, and play some music with Nessa. Though, maybe it was a good thing to live a drama free life. When she heard Nasser talk about Ancient Runes and being a Healer, she turned her full attention on what he was saying. She had never thought about what kind of things people would go through being healers. Her aunt worked on the emergency room and would tell Jasmine about all the kinds of people she saw everyday. It was scary knowing all the different things that could happen to anyone. “Well, it depends on what kind of a healer you want to be…” she began moving her legs around, feeling it fall almost asleep. “If you want to work at St. Mungos then you get to pick what floor you want to work on for different kinds of patients.” Jasmine smiled at Nasser, her head nodding slowly. “It may be a lot of work, but in the end it will be rewarding to know you’ve come so far to do something that you wanted to just give up on.”
Sitting back into the couch, Jasmine thought about Nasser’s question. She always tried to avoid thinking about after Hogwarts. Was she either going to pick working with horses in the muggle world, or do something with potions or healing in the wizarding world? Jasmine couldn’t do both at the same time, she wasn’t super woman. “I honestly don’t know Nasser…” she began running her fingers through her dark hair. “Horses are my life, but I also want to become a healer as well.” Looking in his direction she smiled at him. “I’m afraid if I try to do both, then I might have a break down from too much work.” Sighing she flicked her thumb through the notebook’s pages. “It’s hard to explain.”

“Not much, to tell you the truth. All good things though. She mentioned that you adore your horses and it smoothes out the little hard points of nervousness when anyone hears you talk of them,” said Nasser with a grin. “And that you were loyal to anyone you cared about,” he said, remembering that conversation, and other conversations they’d had fondly. “You know it’s strange that I only knew Dana for a short while, not as long as some of my other friends but I guess she was the closest friend I’ve ever had. I’d never befriended anyone under the same circumstances when we first met and never met anyone who talked to people the way Dana did before,” he said, remembering that night when he’d first met Dana and Caiest. It was strange how he knew he’d been sad that night but what stood out in his memory was how funny Dana had been, how delicious her cookies were, and how he’d felt so much better after that meeting.
It was easy to open up to someone who’d been Dana’s friend especially that he’d remembered the good things Dana had told him about Jasmine. “I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to meet some Healers and people training to become Healers this year. McGonagall said that might happen this year. She’s taken the death of Harry a little hard though so I’m waiting for some time before I ask her about it. I guess one of the things that has made me want to do this is how many people I’ve seen people suffer during the war,” he confided. But in the end it had come down to Harry and Voldemort. Nasser often wondered if people would wake up know to what Harry died for, and to the ultimate sacrifice he’d made to rid the world from the epitome of evil. Would the prejudices in the magical world finally disappear?
“You don’t have to decide tomorrow,” Nasser said soothingly. “It’s a difficult decision to make. And people sometimes do one thing and then the other, alternate between jobs rather than do them both simultaneously. I’m sure by the time when you have to make the decision you’ll know what you want to do,” he continued. He smiled at her last comment. “I wouldn’t mind listening when you find the words,” he said genially. “Was Flitwick any help in Careers Advice last year? It’s difficult to find someone to talk to about this, and it’s not like we can ask our families about it,” Nasser said with a shrug. He knew Jasmine was a Muggle-born like him, although he couldn’t remember how he knew that right now.

Jasmine pulled her knees up to her chest as Nasser began to explain some of the things that Dana had told him about her. Wrapping her arms around her legs, a small smile curled onto Jasmine’s lips as Nasser said that she adored horses. It was a hundred percent true, and sometimes Jasmine thought there wasn’t even anyone else that loved horses just as much as she did. Some of her friends agreed, especially Vanessa who calls her, Jasmine Anderson, horse lover extraordinaire. It fit quite well actually, so she didn’t mind it too much. “I’ll probably be one of the few people who you met who’s in love with horses. So if you ever want to ride sometime, or just have a horse questions, you can come to me for answers,” she added in, a small smile still on her lips. Nasser continued on adding only a couple more details. Loyal, so Dana had said some really nice things about Jasmine to her other friends. It also seemed that Nasser really missed her. Jasmine really didn’t completely understand why she didn’t miss Dana as much as Sapphire of Nasser. “Dana has also said quite a lot of nice things about you too,” Jasmine said picking up a little black fuzzy that was on her pants. “She’s said that your quite smart and have a big family who you love immensely.” Setting the fuzzy aside, Jasmine watched it fall to the floor before adding in more she knew. “I also remember her saying something about your dancing…don’t remember much from the conversation though. I can’t dance at all.” Looking up at Nasser she smiled kindly as him before adding in another obvious statement. “You really do miss her, don’t you? Sapphire does as well…So how did you and Dana first meet that made her so special?”
The topic soon changed back onto the possibilities of becoming a healer after Hogwarts. Nasser had said that Professor McGonagall was setting up agreements, but was distracted by the death of Harry Potter. Many people were still distraught at the death, even Ginny Weasley still was. Jasmine couldn’t imagine losing someone so close to her again. “Were you at the New Years Bash when it happened?” she asked pulling her knees closer to her chest. Jasmine had been there, but left early in time before the Death Eaters even swarmed the place. She hadn’t been in anything that harmed her at all with death eaters, maybe it was because she tried avoiding things like that, or never was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. Well, there had been times when she had been in a situation like that, but that didn’t involve anything terribly serious. There were people still traumatized by Death Eaters, like Collin Creevey, who had been kidnapped last year. “Do you think that all the attacks and things involving that would end? Harry’s did and so is The Dark Lord, but maybe Death Eaters would want revenge…” she asked running her fingers through her dark hair. How did the conversation get so serious so quickly?
Shrugging off the question, Jasmine smiled as Nasser tried to help her with the difficulty of her future. “Yes, and I have asked him, but I don’t know….It’s just really confusing at the moment.” Shaking her head, she looked back at the boy. “I’m the kind of person who likes to know things in advance so I can start planning ahead.” Nodding her head in agreement about what he said about families not understand she completely understood. Lana wasn’t much help when things involved the wizarding world, it just reminded her aunt too much of her sister. “Are you a hundred percent sure you want to be a Healer? Has there ever been anything else you wanted to be?”

“I’ve never really thought that what makes someone special is the way you meet them the first time,” Nasser said with a shrug. It was quite a popular romantic notion, but one Nasser found to rarely be true in life. Friendships, and the one or two times something remotely like love had come across his path had not been with people he’d liked the first time he met them, nor had some life-changing experience or epiphany after he’d talked to them. His next words told Jasmine as much. “You know, it hasn’t been that way in my experience mostly, though with Dana the first meeting was really quite something, at least to me it was. I was quite miserable because of some friends turning out to be less loyal than I had expected, and I went to the kitchens for some comfort food. Dana was there with an another Ravenclaw, apparently mad at something herself which I don’t know till this day, but anyway, she was baking up a storm and offered me some of the cookies she was baking. And that led to conversation, and I told them about my woes, and Dana took it upon herself to cheer me up,” he said. He was smiling now, but his eyes were sad. “We became fast friends ever since,” he continued. When she told him what Dana had said about him he listened and an embarrassed look appeared on his face at Jasmine’s final statement. “I can’t believe she told you about that,” he said. Nasser was no dancer; he’d just been practised a bit before dances so as not to make a complete fool of himself at school events and had found it to be a fun thing to do now and again. He hadn’t danced since that night.
“No, at least, I was in the celebration, but I never really understood what was going on until the next day when we got to see the papers. It’s hard to believe even now. We’ve been living through this so long – at first I was wondering if it was just the Ministry just trying to give us false hope. And then at Harry’s funeral – it just all hit home,” Nasser said sadly. “Who knows what’s going to happen? I think we just have to remember why he died, and make sure it wasn’t in vain, and tell his story to our children, and make sure they tell it their children, in the hope that the lessons to be learnt from it all live on,” he added.
“So am I, but life doesn’t always give you that luxury. I guess in the muggle world I was too young to really think what I wanted to be when I grew up. And when I came to this world there was so little that I knew, but ever since the end of our third year I knew I might like to become a Healer. The only other thing I’ve ever considered as I told you is perhaps working with Runes, but that’s my plan B. Ever had a really silly thing you thought you wanted to be when you were younger?” he asked.

Jasmine rested her chin on top of her knees as she sent Nasser a curios look. She had heard of that statement before, and read it many times in some novels. It sounded a bit like love at first sight, but how Nasser put it was in the friendship kind of way. “I know what you mean, but I rarely ever remember how I meet my friends. It’s either all a blur to me, or was just simply erased from my mind.” Jasmine did remember the first time she had met Vanessa. It was in the room of requirement. There had been a black piano in the room, filled with all different kind of instruments. Vanessa was playing and Jasmine found herself wanting to be able to play like her best friend did. She was far too much into her horse absorbed life, than to practice and practice on the piano. Looking up calmly at Nasser, she listened to his story about how he had met Dana. He sounded so attached to her, and she could tell in his eyes that he missed her. It made her sad to think that she was so angry at her friend. Jasmine wouldn’t tell Nasser that. She didn’t want to jeopardize any chance of creating a friendship with him. “I’m sorry to hear about your friends. At least you didn’t let it control you, stopping you from making new friends. It sounded like you met Dana at the right time,” Jasmine said, a small smile on her face. “Have you talked to her ever since she left? Owled her, or something?” she asked rather curios if Dana was keeping her friendships or not. Smiling at the embarrassed look on his face, she laughed. “You should be embarrassed at all for knowing how to dance. Heck, I wish I paid more attention to when Dana or Jordan were teaching me how to dance. I’m just not made for dancing at all. You do know Jordan Cortes right?”
“I don’t remember much about the party, left before the Death Eater’s even swarmed the place,” Jasmine replied to him not being at the New Year’s Bash. A lot of Hogwarts students weren’t there, probably off with family gatherings. “I am glad that no one got hurt, but I would never dream of Harry or who-must-not-be-named dead…” Jasmine began to chew on the side of her cheek. It was a nervous habit Jasmine had developed over the years, which was not a good one either. She nodded her head at Nasser mention of every generation remembering everything that Harry had done. “You’re right. I’ll have to come up with some adventurous story to tell my own kids when I get older. At least I have many years to wait on that ever happening.” Jasmine looked down at her knees, picking at another black fuzzy from her pants. “But, do you think there will be a lasting peace in the wizarding community? I know there not going to be a new threat now, but what if there is later on down the road.” Jasmine couldn’t help but think of this. There was always going to be evil in the world.
Nasser sounded quite confident about his ambitions on becoming a healer. Though, working with runes did sound like another good alternative. When he asked her about a silly childhood job of her she grinned at him. “Well, I always did dream of becoming a famous singer or something doing with singing.” Jasmine rolled her eyes at the idea of her on stage singing in front of large number of crowds. She had a hard time even singing to her friends. “So that options is over ruled to never happening. It was only a childhood dream of becoming famous. I would rather ride horses than go around the country in sing.” Smiling Jasmine folded her hands on top of her knees, her eyes never leaving Nasser’s face. “What about you? Never any crazy childhood dreams? You have got to have some. Maybe something like…a fire man, or whatever boys thought of.”

"I know, sometimes you just discover how important a person is to you although they've been in your life for a while, and I'd rather thought it was always going to be like that for me, I – I felt it took me a whole lot longer than most people to call someone a friend," said Nasser. He accepted that about himself, it often made life harder for him because he felt he had fewer friends than most people, but it wasn't something he could change – his mother had once told him he took his time about everything, even when she was giving birth to him. He'd been her fourth child and yet she'd been in labour for longer than his previous two siblings before he'd finally decided to arrive to the world. "I met her once this summer," he said sadly. He sighed. He had felt frustrated by the whole meeting and it had lasted about 15 minutes all in all. "She told me she was pregnant and that she was overjoyed about it. And then – " Nasser felt he was somehow betraying Dana but he had to talk about this, and Jasmine had been her friend so at least he was talking to someone who knew her. "She wouldn’t tell me who the father was, only that the baby was the result of a - " He hated saying the words. "A one-night stand," he said finally, looking away from Jasmine. "Just that she should do that made me feel so distant, that she'd been through pain she hadn’t been able to or hadn’t allowed herself to talk to me about and that she'd tried to find comfort in a way I'd thought she'd never – I try not to judge her, what I feel worst about is so much was going on and I didn’t know, but you can’t walk through a closed door, and that's what Dana did, she just didn’t let me in on what was going on and I thought she need her space. And so I've just come to the conclusion that it would be best if I let her go. I think she's probably done the best thing she could in this situation," he said, as if trying to convince himself. He knew it was the right thing for Dana; he just hated no being there for her and not having his close friend anymore.
Nasser smiled absently, and then willed himself to focus on happier things. "I'm not embarrassed; I'm just usually an average dancer, that night I danced with Dana she'd got me in quite a state and I think that brought out a new energy to my dance that she noticed. I know the face and the name, but not much else," he said. "Believe me, I thought I could never dance but there's a type of dance for everyone if they bother to look, and besides, you don’t have to be a great dancer to enjoy doing it," he said with a shrug. "I doubt there will ever be an evil as powerful as Voldemort. But I know there will always be evil, there's evil in all of us, but I think at least the prejudice will never be as strong as it once was. And overcoming our prejudices is a huge step forwards," he said, knowing Jasmine probably had had her own share of experiences with that being a Muggle-born herself. "I wanted to be a teacher. A Marital Arts teacher, actually, a feat which usually requires that you actually know how to do them yourself to accomplish," said Nasser, grinning a little at the memory. He'd only played for about a year, just before he'd come to Hogwarts. "I'm no good at singing, I have a range of about five notes, but I do play the piano though," he informed her.

Jasmine shifted uncomfortably on the couch as Nasser began to talk more about Dana. He really did miss her a lot. It made her feel so frustrated inside, knowing that when her friend left, she broke so many hearts when she left. Was that really a reason to start to hate Dana? Or was there something deeper that Jasmine couldn’t bring herself to realize. Maybe…Just maybe she could be jealous of Dana. Her friend was always so much more popular than she was, and how outgoing she was. Shaking her head at the thoughts, Jasmine focused more on what Nasser was saying. Her own problems with Dana were dead. The girl was dead in her mind. Friends don’t back out on each other. It just was wrong. Looking down at the ground as he explained about the last time he saw Dana she sighed hearing the words, one night stand. “I never thought Dana would result into something like that.” Was her friend really in so deep, that the only way to feel better was to get knocked up? “I feel like a horrible friend…” she whispered after Nasser was finished with his last sentence. Looking up from the carpeting on the floor she tilted her head to the side. “Some how…I feel angry with her. I can’t just forgive someone who closed the ones they cared about off in their lives…” Jasmine explained gazing off into space as her mind circled around different options and words to say. “You are allowed to be angry with her you know, Nasser?” Focusing her gaze more on his face she straightened her head. “Maybe it is just best to forget and move on. There are always other people you might come across who can be that special, and maybe, just maybe it might fill that little hole in your heart.”
Offering a small smile at Nasser she uncurled her legs, so they were hanging loosely over the edge of the couch. “Well I’m glad that you aren’t embarrassed about being a good dancer. I wish I was, but I’m just a big klutz.” Laughing at the thought, she began to fiddle with the edges of the paper in her notebook. “Your right, but I want to be decent enough where no one will laugh at me. Trust me. I’m a disaster zone when it comes to dancing out in public.” Smiling she leaned her head back on the couch, her hands still occupied with the notebook on her lap. Nasser than brought up the evils in the world, and she only just nodded her head. He was right about everyone having a little evil in them. Even the nicest of person could have a little hatred in them. It balanced out. Opening her eyes instantly when she heard him say he wanted to be a martial arts instructor, Jasmine lifted her head off of the couch. “Really?” she asked trying to imagine Nasser doing little air kicks and punches on people. “You mean the martial arts with the whole karate chopping thing?” Making a simple gesture with her right hand, she sliced the air to make her point. Laughing she shook her head. “How come you never took lessons? You still can you know.”

Nasser looked at Jasmine, stunned for a moment. But then his face cleared, because he knew that he hadn’t known the nature of Dana's friendship with Jasmine, and they each had a right to feel the way they wanted to. They were angry about different things, quite different, Nasser was angry that Dana hadn’t let him in and allowed him to be her crying shoulder, yet Jasmine felt that Dana had somehow abandoned them. In ways she had, but Nasser hadn’t judged her. He felt it wasn't something she could have controlled, her life and her family had made her a certain way and pushed her in a direction that they didn't necessarily agree with but he didn’t feel that Dana had ever made the conscious decision that she didn’t need her friends or that she could have stayed at Hogwarts and decided otherwise. She didn't want to have her baby here, she didn’t want to face the music here, she wanted to start a new life, and her family supported that.
"I'm not angry at her, I don’t want to be. I'm frustrated, frustrated because she couldn't run to us with her problems, I wish we had had time to tear down those walls she built around her. I think it's just part of the maturing process; you need to learn that some people will care and understand even if things in your life turn upside-down. Dana went through so much last year, I couldn’t be mad at her. I don’t want to forget her; I just want to get the point where I can remember her as a fond memory," he said letting out an exasperated sigh. He smiled at Jasmine's final sentence. "I know that, I've just met one," he said cheerfully. He nodded his head, remembering his younger self practising self-defence. "I know, but I guess I'm more focused on the things we have to learn as wizards these days. I just feel that you have to stay on your toes when you're a Muggle-born, because while your family is supportive they don’t exactly know the extra things you need to survive as a wizard that you don’t learn at Hogwarts," he said.
