She had been spending so much time outside lately. It just wasn’t like her, not at all. Faith Ellison was a girl of musical talent and many secrets but by no means was she a nature lover. She didn’t despise being outside but neither did she love it. It was similar to the way she felt about mostly everything bar her music. If it wasn’t bothering her or one of her friends, she generally didn’t care. Perhaps it was the way she had been raised, with her favourite guardian being a man of few visible emotions and even fewer words, but she was almost apathetic at times. She had been worse during her first year at Hogwarts though, Faith admitted with a secretive smile. If she hadn’t made friends with Juliet during that year then it was probable that she wouldn’t have made friends with Celia or Olivia or Adriahna either because that year had been when she had been desperately trying to heal herself after her uncle’s death. She had been fragile and vulnerable and she had hidden it far too well to help herself out of the depressed mindset she had sunk in to. She owed Juliet a lot, more than she would ever admit to, but she liked to think that she had helped her friend out too.
The student lounge was unbearably loud and Faith shot a cold glare at the backs of several giggling second years, all gathered around one table. They were probably planning a prank or some other such nonsense, Faith rolled her eyes at the immaturity before reminding herself that they were second years, not yet at the age that they were expected to know better. She had only been there for five minutes and the noise was already driving her insane. She was used to a quieter environment, generally with the soft strains of violin, piano or some other form of instrument playing in the background. With a silent apology to her friends – Faith had been planning to talk with them when they finally showed up, but it looked like they were boycotting the student lounge for a change – she grabbed her bag and stalked out of the lounge, heading for the peaceful silence of the outside.
The promised snow had finally arrived so Faith stood rather than sit down on the snow-covered ground, watching some of the younger years throw snowballs at each other with the hint of a smile on her face. Some other students had taken to lying on the ground and staring up at the sky, pointing out clouds and laughing as they described various shapes that they could see within them. “It’s a teapot!” One of them laughed, pointing directly at the cloud she meant. Her friends started to disagree immediately while Faith herself tilted her head back to gaze at the cloud discreetly. No, that was a definitely a teapot, Faith agreed with the younger girl silently. But if she turned her head slightly, it became a saxophone. Or maybe that was just her music-obsessed mind at work again.
