“I'm not gonna write you a love song 'cause you tell me it's make or breaking this if you're on your way,” Elaine hummed loudly to herself as she tapped her foot to the beat of the music as her quill scribbled fiercely between her fingers. She was sprawled out across her four poster bed, heads phones over her caramel colored hair, and a charms book lay open with a parchment on the side. Noah had made her a new CD mix over the holidays as her Christmas present. He had to be the most overly obsessed boy when it came to music. There was even a while closet space dedicated to all his records and CD collection! You had to call that neurotic, right? Though, he was a great knowledge source to go to with any question that involved certain genres of music. Noah didn’t like rap though, but Elaine kind of liked it. Well, she tolerated it, but she couldn’t stop listening to this mix CD. It was a mixture of all her favorite artists, and even some new ones that Noah had added. The Bentley’s really didn’t do anything too extravagant for the specific holiday. Each of the children got the same amount of presents, but Abigail had gotten more since she was the youngest. Elaine could remember the excitement that always rushed through her on that one special day. It only came around once a year. Now, Elaine didn’t feel anything. Indeed, she was happy when receiving a presents, but there wasn’t that old joy she felt at such a young age. Maybe that’s what happens when you get older? The once juvenile things weren’t as important as they used to be. That was part of growing up. When those simple pleasures of life just washed away, new ones were brought to the surface. Growing up sort of related to the ocean. As each wave passes, another will soon later. If that made sense. Though, Elaine was just still trying to get passed life day at a time. She was still trying to find herself in this huge universe. It might take all your life to really do such a thing, but she was willing to do just that.
“If you're on your way I'm not gonna write you to stay. If all you have is leaving I'm gonna need a better reason to write you a love song today,” she sang quietly continuing to hum to the lyrics. Crossing her t’s and dotting her i’s, Elaine sighed as she set her quill into the ink holder carefully closing the lid shut. She couldn’t count all the times that she spilled a whole bottle of ink on her mattress. It involved numbers far beyond her fingers and toes could count. Glancing over her cramped hand writing, Elaine skimmed over the words nodding approvingly. It sounded succinct and the grammar looked alright. Even though Elaine was a writer, she was horrible when it came to punctual mistakes. There were some people that could pick up any mistakes that were written down. However, Elaine couldn’t so she resulted to her brother correcting her work, or even her friends. Waiting for the ink to dry, Elaine swung her legs over the edge of her bed, stretching up high into the air as her body cracked under the strain. Yawning, she scratched her head before running her fingers through her thick locks of hair. If there was one thing that Elaine hated about her body, was her hair. It was so thick, and it practically shed in the winter like an animal! Shaking her head, Elaine turned around grabbing her parchment and rolling it smoothly into a roll. Taking a blue muggle rubber band, Elaine slid the flexible rubber down the page until it reached the middle. There. It was done. Setting the rolled up parchment into her school bag, Elaine looked up around the room. There wasn’t anyone else in sight. Looking over at the clock, her eyes grew wide at the time. It was already dinner? How could she have lost track of time that fast?
Quickly getting herself together, Elaine bounded out of the common room and down to the Great Hall. Once she was inside the hall, she headed toward the Ravenclaw table noticing only one open spot next to a sixth year boy. He looked quite familiar. Maybe his name started with an E? Oh, yes! It was Eden! Smiling at her memory, Elaine headed toward the open spot, plopping herself next to the older boy with a small smile. “Hope you don’t mind,” she began adjusting herself so her legs were crossed by the ankle under the table. “There really isn’t anywhere else to sit.” Glancing down the table, Elaine stared at each face as the Ravenclaws chatted amongst themselves. “I’m Elaine Bentley by the way.” With a quick nod at her name, she spotted her brother only a few meters away with Chris Crawford. Honestly, Elaine didn’t understand how Noah could stand Chris? Elaine had only met him once, but she knew they were going to meet a lot more now that he was best friends with her brother. “You’re Eden, right? I don’t remember your last name though…” she trailed off, with a faint smile while looking over at the boy. Returning her full attention on the food in front of her, Elaine began piling variety of things onto the plate in front of her. Grabbing a pitcher of pumpkin juice, she poured it into a goblet. As it reached the top, Elaine gasped as the girl next to her bumped into her by accident causing the pitcher to fall from Elaine’s grasps. Watching as the liquid escaped from its container she blushed noticing that it spilled over landing on Eden. “Sorry…”
