Ary settled herself onto the bench opposite Septimus. She turned to her and smiled half-bemusedly. She hadn't slept all too well, she had perfected Sep's essay all night. Stifling a yawn, she made a grab for a piece of toast. She spread the butter and took a nibble from one corner. "Somebody left jam in the butter!" She pulled a face and swallowed her mouthful. She hated jam and the little, seedy bits in it.
Arywiel finally leant closer to Septimus. "Got it?" She hissed under her breath. If Ary had worked until two, she hoped Sep had put a little effort into it. Arywiel glanced up and down the table. Everybody was involved in conversation and wasn't looking her way. She turned back to her toast and picked the jam off it. "Hope the essay wasn't too hard." She studied the bread before she took a big bite out of it.
There was suddenly a hoot and sixty owls swooped into the room screeching. Ary dropped her toast into her lap. muttering to herself, she wiped her robes clean, leaving a white smur. Ealdred landed in her plate hooting obnoxiously. Ary picked up the letter he had dropped in the pat of butter. She opened it and scanned the page. The usual letter from Greg, her muggle cousin. He was extremely enthusiastic about the wizarding world and had begged his Mum to let him go to Hogwarts when he found out Ary was going. He was instead sent to Dauntsy's college, but sent Ary letters when he got home for long weekends. There was a picture enclosed of him on the rugby team. Ary grinned to herself. Half the students at her school didn't know what rugby was if it waltzed down the hall as a pink rhinoseros.
Arywiel dropped the letter and looked down at Septimus. "So, you got the History essay?"
