It was nearing 7 o clock on a Monday night and Amber was still busy writing that essay. Snape hit her hard with the homework because she was late last week. Even though she worked all weekend, only to break for food and the bathroom, she wasn't finished yet. The due date being on Wednsday, Amber knew she still had time. However, she was determined to get it finished by tonight and turn it in a day early, just to show Snape how well she could do. Amber grit her teeth together and dipped her nearly broken quill into the ink yet again. She had done this so often that her finger tips were black. Sighing frequently with the boredom and hatred for her potions teacher, Amber studied on. It was for sure that she would know everything there was to know about sleeping potions after this. With three days work already, she could be called an expert!
After another hour, however, Amber knew that she would not finish it tonight. There was still another scroll and a half to do with four already finished. She sighed, running her fingers through her hair and stretching her back. Maybe it was time to face it... she would have to finish it tomorrow. Rolling up the nearly finished essay and placing it neatly in her bag, Amber stood, stretching various parts of her body that ached. She had sat at the same table for nearly three hours and her body was tired. Maybe she could lay down on the couch for a few moments...
She stepped over to the couch and laid down. Her body instantly relaxed and all tension ceased. Exhaustion that she didn't feel a second before suddenly overcame her and she felt the hands of sleep grasp her. Her eyes, which watched the flames in the fireplace started to close and her body relaxed so much that she did, indeed fall asleep.

Ryann was exhausted from the day filled with classes. She wasn't sure why she had insisted on filling her schedule so much. Perhaps it was because she still didn't know what she wanted to do after Hogwarts and so she was keeping her options open by taking a variety of classes. Soon though, if she continued to work herself to death, she'd start falling behind in the classes and not score high enough to continue at the NEWT level. Sighing, Ryann flung her bag from one shoulder to the next to adjust the weight. She gave fat lady in the portrait the right password and made her way into the common room.
Ryann walked across the firelit room and circled around the nearest couch. She was about to collapse onto it before she noticed that Amber had taken up the whole thing. "Scoot over," Ryan said, picking up Amber's legs and sliding underneath them until they rested across Ryann's lap. Ryann laughed as she had obviously awoke Amber whose look of confusion was priceless. "Let me just tell you how terrible my day was." Ryann rolled her eyes and knew she really wouldn't bore Amber with the details.
"But no... seriously, you want to know what sucks?" Ryann wasn't even sure if Amber was paying attention as she still seemed to be sleepy. "I have spent so much of my time with that dim-wit of a boy, Noah Bentley, and you'd think he could take a hint. I mean, if it's not obvious to him that I like him, then I don't know what else to do besides come out and say it." She paused for a moment and then added, "That'd be a disaster though. I can't do that." Ryann looked back over to Amber. "But honestly, tell me what boy with go and flirt with you... because ohhhh trust me, he doesn't mind flirting with me, and then the next minute seem like he's not even interested when he just passes you in the hall with nothing more than a head nod." Ryann crossed her arms over her chest. "Tell me, am I really that sad that the most he'd want is just a friendship? I mean, it's obvious that he doesn't want to be more than friends. I don't even have to risk humiliating myself to find that one out." Ryann stopped talking for a moment, happy with the rant she had released. It was time to give Amber a chance to get a word or two in, assuming she wasn't already asleep again on her.

There was one odd thing about Amber. Well, that's a bit of an understatement. There are many odd things about the Gryffindor, which she prefers. This particular odd thing, however, has to do with something everyone is familiar with; dreams. It is quite rare for Amber to have such a one. Her sleep is undisturbed with mental images, whether nice or disturbing. However, that is not to say that she does not occasionally have a dream while she slumbers, but it is usually confusing and full of oddities no one but her understands. For example, she once had a dream that she had gotten a pony for her tenth birthday and as she rode it down the street, with all her friends and enemies watching with envy, the pony transformed into different animals, one being a giant snake. When she had awoke, her confusion was great and her want to tell anyone else was little.
This particular nap was, thankfully, dreamless. Her sleep was pleasant. That is, it was until someone interupted it.
"Scoot over!" the voice said as someone picked up her legs. Amber awoke instantly with wondering eyes searching the room. She saw Ryann, but didn't recognize her through her sleepy daze for a few moments. As Ryann placed Amber's legs on her lap, and with one look at Amber's confused (and rather annoyed) expression started laughing. Amber sighed and laid her head back down. Her body ached with the want of sleep, but Ryann needed to vent her feelings, which was obvious by her plea to tell Amber about her day. Amber sighed again and waved her hand as way of agreeing to listen.
The second Ryann used the word "serious" to describe the situation, Amber sat up a bit and fixed her friend with her full, sleepy attention. Without another thought, Ryann began to tell of her troubles with Noah, which Amber knew full well. The fact that Ryann had done everything a girl can do (except the most obvious, which would be to tell him) and he still had not noticed how much she liked him just showed how much of an idiot the boy must be. Amber had only seen him around school and had not actually spoken to him, but she didn't think she needed to. Considering all the times that Ryann had come to Amber with details on her liking for him, she could write a book about him!
When Ryann had finished her tirade, her questioning eyes turned to Amber, who was happy to take the hint and answer her friend's questions.
"You want my full opinion?" Amber asked and didn't wait for an answer, "I think he's a bloody idiot! He doesn't see what's right in front of him! You're everything he wants, but he doesn't know it yet, which makes me want to slap him in the face." She giggled a bit, "Only kidding." she added with a smile
"But really now... if he hasn't got the picture by now, I think it's time to either let it go or straight out tell him how you feel."

Ryann gave a playful glare at Amber when she called Noah an idiot. "Ok... he's not an idiot," she said in her most convincing voice possible, "but you can slap him for me." She laughed at the thought of that before listening to Amber give her advice. Ryann didn't like her options too much though. She let out an irritated sigh before tossing Amber's feet from her lap and standing. She paced back and forth in front of the couch with a thoughtful look on her face. "But, you see, the problem is, I really can't do either of those two things. I can't, or frankly don't want to, just let it go. I mean, have you even bothered to look at the guy? He's so cute!" The dreamy look on Ryann's face was rather pathetic, but she didn't mind. "Annnd, you might not appreciated this, but his taste in music.... it's... it's just perfect!" Ryann was passionate about music, nobody needed to be told that one.
She again sighed before addressing the other choice Amber had laid out for her. "And then, the problem with coming out and telling him... well that one's difficult. What if he really doesn't like me? Well then I've gone and made a bloody fool of myself. What is more embarrassing than that?" Ryann took a seat again on the chair beside the couch. She put her elbows on her knees and rested her chin in her hands. "I just, don't know what else there is to do though." Ryann looked back at Amber, wondering if it was even worth sharing with her. She did trust Amber, but Ryann wasn't usually willing to be so open about things. With Noah though, something inside her couldn't help but want to share her feelings.
"What about you?" Ryann asked, thinking that perhaps it might be best to change to another topic. The situation with Noah would have to be addressed another time. Plus, Amber was probably right. Ryann could either drop it or do something about it. There was no use relying on Noah having some sort of enlightening or whatever. "Haven't you been hanging around with Ethan quite a bit?" Ryann was never really caught up on the current relationships and such. She tended to stay to herself when it came to that. She did though hear some things through the natural chain of gossip that seemed to prevail no matter how hard one tried to stick to their own business. "What romantic highlights are in the life of Amber Hess?" she questioned, trying to show a sincere care about not just her own problems and life in general.

Amber placed her arms behind her head, getting comfortable in this new position with Ryann sitting beneath her legs. The confusion on her friend's face was obvious and Amber couldn't help but relate. Her own love life was confusing enough for the both of them. Amber watched Ryann's face as she took in Amber's advice. Blushing with sudden frustration, Ryann moved out from under Amber's legs and began to pace in front of the couch. Amber sat up, placing her legs underneath her and leaning against the couch arm, watching and listening to Ryann as she ranted.
A giggle came to her lips when Ryann exclaimed how cute Noah was. Amber did have to admit that was rather important when finding someone to date. The fact that he loved the same music and as much as Ryann did was rather big. Ryann's life revolved around music. Anyone could see that just upon meeting her.
Amber's blue eyes watched her friend struggle with the only choices she had. It seemed like she had no easy way out. Amber bit her lip as Ryann took an exasperated sigh and sat in the chair next to the couch. Amber liked Ryann. They were pretty good friends and Amber did trust her, but sometimes, like in this situation, it was a little annoying for someone to take something so small and make it into a much larger problem than it needed to be. Amber leaned her own chin on her hands, unknowingly mimicking Ryann and waited for her to come up with an answer. Ryann looked at Amber with pleading eyes and Amber couldn't help but sigh.
"I don't know what to tell you." She apologized, "except that if it were me, I would tell him." She smiled. It was the best she could do for Ryann. It wasn't like she was going to get herself into it anymore than she had to. She wasn't going to talk to him about Ryann or anything close to that. This was Ryann's dilemma and, no matter how much Amber wanted to help, she couldn't solve it for her.
It was just like Ryann to switch the subject onto someone else. Amber sighed as she brought up Ethan. Her mind instantly raced with all the thoughts and feelings she had been feeling since she had met him. He did too much to her nerves. There was a feeling about him she didn't understand. Was it suspicion? It wasn't love or anything like that. It was a bad feeling coupled with a feeling of dread and the fact that she liked him.
"Yeah, we're going out this weekend." Her smile was fake, but no one ever could tell the difference, "I just..." She sighed, her smile dropping, "I don't know if I should trust him. You know? I mean, I like him a lot and he seems to like me, but him and Ezzie broke up like five minutes before he asked me out. I don't know what to think."

Amber didn't have much help to offer, but Ryann knew she shouldn't expect her to. It really was Ryann's own problem, and Amber's suggestion was really the only solution there was. Either that, or Ryann would just have to keep going crazy with Noah being oblivious of her true feelings. "Perhaps you're right," she caved, letting the topic end at that, Amber not saying anything more about it either. "Ooo, do tell," Ryann teased, listening for Amber to spill the details. Ryann didn't know much about Ethan, but she was in an odd mood to want to hear some gossip. It wasn't like Ryann to be so eager for gossip, but something inside her wanting to get Noah off her mind made her open to the new guy in Amber's life. "Eh, sounds sketchy," Ryann said, her brow raised. "Seems to me that he might have been moving on a bit quickly for just having ended a relationship. Perhaps he has commitment problems?" she offered. Who was Ryann though to be judging others. She had equal problems of her own that she refused to confront, at least not in a way that would actually change something about them. "You'll have to tell how the weekend goes though when it's all over," Ryann nodded. "So what's Ezzie think of all this," she asked, curious to know if Amber had found herself in a love triangle. Those were always interesting, Ryann thought. As much chaos and drama that they caused, she realized that they were more common that one may have thoughts. Perhaps it was just because love was such a confusing and captivating thing all at once. Especially at their ages, love could be quite a journey to say the least. "I know I'd be pretty upset if I were her... not that you can blame her though." Ryann shrugged her shoulders, looking back to Amber. ((Terribly sorry that it took a little while. I didn't forget. Just sometimes I go on streaks with my charries... I found a Ryann streak in me. )
