"I have a boyfriend, and I'm going to the Winter Ball stag." Cass muttered to herself and she reapplied her mascara for the umpteenth time. "God, I never thought I would be saying this, but I'm getting beautiful for Alex." She was utterly perplexed when Alex asked Cass if Liam was going to the Yule Ball with her. Cass had told her cousin's fiance the truth. Liam and her seemed to be a bit on the rocks as of late, and neither one of them had mentioned the dance to the other. At that point, Alex had informed Pyro was going to be on family business and was unable to attend. Cass had almost shot back a mean retort, but held her tongue. Alex and Cass were friends now. There was no reason for them to fight anymore. Alex had put down her walls, and Cass had put away her guns.
Cassandra stepped back and looked in the mirror. She had decided to go the ball as Ophelia. Ophelia and Hamlet weren't exactly one of the greatest couples in history, but Cass had always had an affinity for muggle literature. It was definitely something that no one else would pick, and truthfully, who cared? Without a Hamlet, the costume sort of lost its zing. The pink dress looked wickedly good on Gryffindor. The soft gold trim of the dress matched well with the shoes she had picked up in Hogsmeade a few days earlier. Yes, she was quite the sight. She would make all the girl's jealous, and all the boy's drool. However, the right boy would not be drooling all over her tonight. She held the Angelus medallion tight in her hand. She then slowly hung it around her neck, and let it hide tucked away beneath her bodice.
She had agreed to meet Alex in front of the Great Hall. As she came down the stairwell, she could see the myriad of decorations. It was beautiful and romantic as always. She so wished she had someone other than Alex to share it with. Happy, smiling couples passed her on their way into the Ball. Cass could only lean against the barrister, and wait for her date to arrive.
