Defense Against the Dark Arts ((4th-5th Years))

[Professor Kendric Druex]

''Let's see.....'' Kendric stood in the middle of his classroom, arms folded across his chest, tapping his wand tip against his side. He had a pretty good lesson plan for today, but just wondered if his O.W.L students were capable of handling it. He often thought maybe his lesson plans were a little ''too interactive,'' but he knew of no better way to teach the subject so that his pupils not only retained the information taught, but could have some kind of experience to go with it; even if it wasn't much. You can't just learn defensive magic by reading books and memorizing passages about how to cast spells. You had to get up, roll up your sleeves, put your wand to work. This was an unbearable issue he had had with his Defense Against the Dark Arts professor in his days at Hogwarts. Always reading and talking, no action. It drove Kendric mental.

Sighing, he waved his wand, and all desks disappeared, which he was certain wouldn't surprise his O.W.L students. Very few days did Kendric have them do book work, considering this year was so crucial to their futures. The bell rang, but Kendric acted as if he didn't hear it, and with another wave of his wand, vanished his own desk. ''Hmmmm,'' he said examining his drapes. They were a deep purple, and had been for the past two weeks. It was definitely time for a change. Kendric didn't doubt that the students didn't find this to be a weird habit of his, but he liked to think they were used to it, for the most part. With a final wave of his wand, the drapes billowed, and were now a dull orange, that clashed horribly with the rest of his classroom. ''Perfect,'' he said walking to the front of the room, and sitting in his high backed leather chair.

His door opened, and students started filing in. Once the last student had entered and closed the door behind them, he addressed the class. ''Good morning all. I'm.........''Kendric trailed off. He had just had a thought. A rather intriguing thought. Smiling to himself, he addressed the class again. ''Forgive me. I'm going to need you all to line up across the room. Please.'' He had a bit of a surprise for his students. Today, would be a very interesting lesson indeed. He had planned on just observing, but why not join in? Have a bit of fun?

[August Reid R7]

Just another month. That's all. Just one more month, August was saying this thought over and over to himself. It had become his little mantra. He was ready for school to be over. August really wanted to go home and not have to worry about homework or quizzes or solving a riddle to enter his own room. It didn't help that Ravenclaw had lost the last Quidditch match either. Even though it wasn't technically his fault, he felt somewhat responsible. True, he had no control over the Snitch and who caught it, but he had let several Quaffles into the goal. He felt like a failure as a player. He couldn't play as a Beater in the game against Slytherin and had failed as a Keeper in the game against Gryffindor. At least Ravenclaw was winning in House Points. Hopefully nothing would take that away from them. Knock on wood.

August enter the classroom alone. This year had also been tough on his ego. True he had met some new people: Belle, Theo, ...Dylan. But they were all in different years than he. It wasn't exactly the same. Plus they all had their own lives to lead. Entering the classroom, August noticed the orange drapes right away. They clashed with everything in the room and all August could be thankful for was that they were a dull orange and not a blinding bright orange. Professor Druex was always strange like that. August used to think that the drapes on the wall had a direct connection to his mood but sometimes they would be black when he was in a good mood but sky blue when he was in a foul mood. The next thing August noticed was the missing rows of desks. That was not really a surprise as Professor Druex rarely made them sit in their desks and read. August found a corner of the classroom to put his stuff down and then lined up with the rest of the class where the professor was pointing. August sighed to himself. Just another month. That's all. Just one more month.

[Billy Brady H6]

Billy smiled as he entered the classroom, as he usually did when it was DADA. It was his favourite lesson, and one that he generally excelled in, unlike many of his other subjects. Well, apart from Divination, in which he did but a lot of the time he could easily make up a load of stuff and still get good marks, and Transfiguration that he just seemed to have a knack for. But DADA was always his favourite and the highlight of the week. Especially now he was in a class with Rex who also enjoyed the subject. They always had a good time and lessons were always fun and enjoyable. He intended to take it to NEWT level and possibly do something with it in the future, but he hadn't thought too much about his Post-Hogwarts life yet.

He entered the classroom, while eating an apple from his break, to find that the only other student there was August-a Ravenclaw in his year, and the professor. He greeted both of them while sitting at a desk near the front of the room where he usually sat with Rex. Billy hoped that his best friend would arrive soon, and began to unpack his belongings ready for the lesson while he waited. He hadn't seen Rex for a while-they weren't in the last lesson together and they hadn't bumped into each other at break either. Rex was usually on the later students to arrived, yet Billy had arrived pretty early, so he wasn't very surprised that Rex wasn't there when he entered the room. Gradually the classroom filled up, though there was no sign of Rex for a while.

Billy looked around the room while he waited and noticed a couple of changes in the room, including the curtains being a different colour. Well, the professor was quite new and was bound to impos some of his own style into the room. The lesson started with the professor asking everyone to line up across the room. Billy wondered what this was all about, yet joined the other students, who looked equally puzzled, in the line. He had a feeling that the lesson would be surprising, but it would certainly be fun nontheless-DADA never disappointed him. Apart from when it came to talk of exams, but that was another story for another day.

I would like to thank those who participated in this class, even though we did not get around to what I wanted to get around to due to lack of participation [Don't worry, I'm not mad at anyone or anything.
