Divination (3rd-7th years)

[Professor Sybil Trelawney]

The room was dark, dank, and smelled strangely of cat urine. It was perfect for divination. Professor Trelawney went through the room and huffed as she thought about the work she was going to have to do today. With a waive of her wand, all of the tables on the platforms in the room disappeared as if they had never been there. With another flick, the floor was suddenly filled with pillows and poufs of all colors and sizes. Quite a change,she thought to herself as she turned around to light a fire in the grate. It was a fine spring day, and with the added heat from the fire, it would create the perfect atmosphere for the lesson today. The woman went to the table beside the shabby, yellow armchair to light some incense to help cover the smell.

A few moments later, she heard giggling and animated talking coming from the stairwell outside her classroom. For added effect, Trelawney went to stand beside the fire. Students began to pile into the room one by one. Most of them looked around in amazement to see the change in the classroom. Some got the message and took seats on the floor. Others merely stood there like scared animals. "Find a seat everyone. Sit down. Sit down. We are going to have a different lesson today. I need everyone to find a partner as well. There will be plenty of foolish wand waving, loud incantations, and maybe even a few people reduced to tears by the time we are through."

Two girls looked at Trelawney in shock, and then scurried away to the back of the classroom. Sybil took a cauldron out from underneath the table beside her, and placed it on top of that same table. "I hope everyone remembered to bring their cauldron like I told you last class. I'm going teach you something even Professor Snape wouldn't dare try."

Dylan sighed as he finished climbing the long, spiraled staircase that led to Divination. Not out of fatigue or tiredness, but out of a little exasperation. The only reason he decided to keep Divination was just to ''spice up'' his schedule a bit. He really didn't like the subject, but he thought Professor Trelawney to be nothing more than just down right amusing. But, he didn't feel this way all the time. Some days, he would find himself doing every and anything in his power to stifle his laugh, and others, he just wanted to pick up the bloody crystal ball and hurl it at her and scream, ''Would you shut up already!'' But overall, he genuinely liked Professor Trelawney; no matter how backward, or how big of a fraud she seemed to be.

Dylan was the first to the classroom for the first time, and looked around to find that all the desks and chairs were gone to be replaced by pillows and poofs. Dylan looked over to find Professor Trelawney standing obviously deliberately by the fire. Dylan chuckled and headed to the far side of the classroom while Professor Trelawney talked. ''This should be good,'' he said to himself. He sat his school bag down and grabbed a big, green satin pillow and placed it under his head as he layed down comfortably on the floor. ''Hmmm,'' he said looking around at his sides and feet. He spotted a slightly smaller blue pillow, and tucked it under his kneecaps. ''There we go,'' he said settling. He reached over and slid his school bag toward him, and pulled out his cauldron.

It wasn't like Dylan to be this way in any of his classes, but Divination was different. Surprisingly, he was good at it; considering he didn't take it seriously and didn't really try very hard. He heard the Professor say they would need partners, and Dylan shrugged. Normally, well, normally in Divination, he worked with anyone. Mainly because not many students fifth year and up decided to stick with the subject, so he worked with whomever was closest to him, or whomever asked. He pulled his wand out, and began tapping the side of his cauldron, absent mindedly turning it a different color with each tap.
