The day had finally come! The start of any holiday, whether it be for Christmas or summer, was always something Scott looked forward to. He loved Hogwarts, but getting to go home and visit his parents and Evelyn always put a smile on his face. He had just finished helping his sister Flick load her things onto the crimson Hogwarts Express, shortly before she rushed off with a group of her friends, chatting and being the center of social life as she usually was. Similarly, Scott resorted to his pattern of being independent and found himself an empty compartment where he collapsed onto the seat nearest the window with a sigh of happiness.
Going home meant a lot of things for Scott. Not only did he just get to see his parents and Evelyn, but he and Flick were actually quite responsible for Evelyn when they were home so that his parents could have somewhat of a break from needing to constantly care for her. Scott never minded though. He loved both Flick and Evelyn immensely, and as a family, the Ryders were all rather close despite what trials they faced and the stress that was a result of Evelyn's cerebral palsy. Overall, being home just allowed Scott to feel more comfortable, as he always preferred a familiar environment, and the habits of growing up muggle had stuck with him despite being accepted to Hogwarts and having attended the school over four whole years.
He watched the train station in Hogsmeade, and eventually the people and the entire station itself began to move from his view as the train started on it's way. It was then that he heard the compartment door open, and he averted his gaze to see who the person was. There weren't many people that he hoped for it to be, but there were definitely those who he hoped it wasn't, Gary, the Slytherin bully who seemed to now target him, being one of them. It wasn't Gary though, and Scott noticed it was a girl who seemed obviously younger than himself. He didn't want her to think that she wasn't welcome, so he quickly spoke up in a quiet voice. "Plenty of room for one more." He smiled kindly, figuring that at least it wasn't a whole group of people. Scott did better with small amounts of people. One on one was always preferable to groups for Scott. "I'm Scott," he greeted, waiting to see if the girl would take a seat.
