Weetzie let out a groan when Cass saved the Quaffle, trying not to let it get her too down. She really didn't like when Hufflepuff's shots were blocked, but then again no one really liked when their team lost their chance at scoring. She sighed slightly and resumed playing. Quidditch was a fast paced game, Weetzie knew this and although she was used to fast paced things, she didn't quite have the focus to maintain at the same speed everyone else was. It took practise and Weetzie didn't care about Quidditch too much to worry about it. She did well, she did her job, and that was fine. Besides that, she wasn't happy with her team mates and probably would quit after this season anyway. She didn't want to play Quidditch, she wanted to make music. She couldn't do that while flying around on a broomstick, now, could she? Weetzie tossed her brown and pink hair that was pulled up into a pony tail over her shoulder, considering how long it was, and flew toward the Quaffle.
Zara was trying to get it from Cass and Weetzie had no intention of letting that happen. She didn't quite know how well it would work out for her interception, but she had to try.

Finally! Bryce watched as the Bludger he had hit connected with the Gryffindor Seeker and caused him to momentarily lose his concentration. Still, neither Scott or Charles had spotted the Snitch, but Bryce figured that he had at least caused Scott to lose some focus. The wind started to pick up, but the sun was still shining brightly onto the pitch. It was both warm yet cold, and Bryce was already starting to feel the numbing effects of the biting wind. It was early into the match, but he was getting rather cold. He was glad it wasn't snowing.
Flying around a bit more to keep his blood circulating and attempting to keep warm, Bryce was on the lookout for the Bludgers. Then, he noticed that the younger Beater from Gryffindor who had attempted to defend Scott was preparing for an attack on Sydney who had just attempted to score. Bryce saw the Bludger heading for her just as the Quaffle was caught by Cass, the Gryffindor Keeper and captain. In a flash, Bryce flew forward and placed himself between the Bludger and Sydney, preparing to deflect it at Cass if he was able to make contact.
Three... two... one... he counted in his head as he waited for just the right time to swing. Then, with a heavy force, he smacked his bat against the Bludger, hoping to stop it from hitting Sydney while also trying to possibly knock the Quaffle from Cass's hands so that they might get a quick second chance to score.

Scott was on his way over toward the stands where he thought he first saw the glint of the Snitch. As he neared the place, he thought it was, he felt something collide with the back of his broom. Thinking it might be someone brushing by him, he spun to realize that it was a Bludger that had been hit his way. It had broke a few of the bristles on his broom, but didn't manage to do any permanent or serious damage, or at least he didn't think it had. Stopping momentarily to watch the vicious Bludger head on to another victim, Scott saw Arywiel looking rather apologetic for not being able to stop in in time. "It's okay," he shouted on top of the cheering. They were flying right above the Hufflepuff stands at this point, and many of the students seemed somewhat happy that he had been knocked off course by the Bludger. He figured they weren't joyous in the mere fact of him being hit as much as what it would do to his concentration. Don't worry about it, he told himself. Just keep going and stay focused! There was little that he wasn't focused on though. Scott was doing fairly well at keeping up with what was happening around him. He just needed to find that Snitch. A roar of disappointed voices echoed below him as he turned to see Cass save an attempted goal by the one Hufflepuff Chaser. Scott cheered silently to himself at the sight. Then, with a large sigh, he recovered his focus and decided to fly upward again for another quick scan of the entire pitch. Even if the Snitch had been in the stand and the glint of gold that he saw may have been his chance to end the game, he'd never know. If it was the Snitch, it was long gone by now. Pulling upward, Scott soared high above the stands, each spectator becoming smaller and smaller as he took another look for the tiny flying ball that had been successfully eluding both he and Charlie so far into the game. Ivy glanced round as she heard Bryce's shout, and it was at that point that she noticed the Bludger moving towards her in a strange line. She couldn't tell exactly where it was going to end up because at one moment it was above her, the next beneath her, or swerving round to the side. It had a very odd path that she found it impossible to predict (she didn't have a huge amount of experience with the behaviour of Bludgers despite having been on the team a long time) and so when it evaded Bryce's bat she wasn't very successful, misjudging her dodge slightly and allowing the Bludger to hit her in the shin rather painfully. 'What is a 'heads up' anyway?' Ivy wondered a little absent-mindedly as she looked around to make sure that she was still in the correct position to steal the Quaffle from Lenora, but ended up swiping a little foolishly at the air as the distance between them was a bit greater than she had thought.
She composed herself again quickly. The Bludger had done its job in keeping her occupied, but perhaps she had done her job in distracting Lenora as her pass was made a little bit too hurriedly and Sydney intercepted it very cleanly. Ivy cheered, excitedly yelling "GO SYDNEY!" She smiled briefly at Ash as she heard her shout to 'hang in there', already much too absorbed in the match again to be particularly worried by the Bludger hit. However, she heeded her friend's next call much more promptly as she saw another Bludger headed her way. She sure hoped that her best friend would defend her from this one, because she was not having another Bludger hit her. That would be humiliating and Hufflepuff was not going to be humiliated this time. Their captain was not going to be humiliated. Not constricted by trying to maintain her position this time as she wasn't currently involved with the Quaffle (thanks to Sydney), she was able to dive away sharply and just avoid the path of the Bludger even though Ash hadn't managed to deflect it herself.
In the meantime, Sydney had tried to score, but Cassandra had frustrated the attempt. Ivy caught up with the other two Hufflepuff Chasers at the goal hoops, and was about to hover irritatingly in front of Lenora when a quick glance below to the ground revealed Harmony, looking just as buoyed up and ready to go as she had been in the locker rooms. "Time out!" she called to Madam Hooch. Cassandra hadn't passed the Quaffle yet so her conscience could be secure in the knowledge that it wasn't doing the Gryffindors any harm. A quick glance at Weetzie showed her that her dormmate was bothering to do her job; she wouldn't discourage her from that now. "I'm subbing Harmony Chan in for Sydney, Professor," she explained as she flew up to the referee. She pointed at the small girl down on the ground, and then flew back to Sydney and gave her a light thump on the arm, a slightly unIvy-ish gesture but the quickest way to acknowledge her devoted team member. "You'll be back in later," she promised her fellow sixth year.
She grinned at Harmony as she arrived, but there wasn't time to tell the younger girl to give it all she had as the game restarted. Ivy hastily moved to block any passes to Lenora, her effect not quite as dizzying as constantly bobbing up and down in front of her eyes would have been, but still, she hoped, quite a foolsafe method of making the talented older girl unavailable to pass to.
((Subbing in Harmony Chan for Sydney Rawson. I hope that's all right since the Quaffle isn't currently in play... Arywiel (+ Bryce!) sorry. Would you be able to switch to another target + defence subject?
Thank you to Sydney for doing her job so well + reliably!

Noticing the bludger inch its way closer to Ashley, she extended her arm swinging hard against the iron ball. It zoomed past her, a horrified expression glooming in her eyes. Looking over her shoulder at Ivy, Ashley sighed as her friend dodged in time from the bludger. Perfect. Ashley couldn’t even defend her own team mates! “It’s only the beginning of the game. Don’t get too discouraged,” she reassured herself, taking a deep breath as she heard the roar of the crowd getting louder. Spotting Sydney by the Gryffindor goal posts attempting to score, Ashley silently prayed that it would go in. Sighing as Cass caught the quaffle in time, Ashley turned her broom around keeping a lookout for another bludger. Bryce was already on the move, already hitting the Gryffindor seeker. Noticing a bludger in the far off corner, Ashley made her way toward it, her bat held out to strike it. Even though Branden was strong, Ashley still had to play her best.

((Not posted since beginning of match, so backtracking to beginning again)).
As soon as the whistle was blown, Sophia flew to the Hufflepuff hoops. The action started straight away, unfortunately with Lenora of Gryffindor catching the quaffle just as Ivy was going to catch it. This somewhat annoyed Sophia, until Sydney managed to intercept a pass from Lenora to Zara-Hufflepuff's luck was going up! But there was bad news: meanwhile, Bryce had failed to defend Ivy from a bludger attack sent from Branden, and hence Ivy had been hit! And unluckily Ashley's bludger sent to Lenora was blocked by Branden, who then deflected it towards Ivy-this was not good! Sophia was very concerned, with Ivy being both a friend of hers and the team captain!
Ashley attempted to defend Ivy, but failed-however she warned Ivy, who then dodged the bludger! It was looking up for Hufflepuff! And then to make it better, Bryce successfully hit a bludger at Scott, which was unsuccessfully defended by Arywiel, and now Scott was unable to search for the snitch, leaving it up for grabs for Charlie, who didn't seem to be having much success. And then Sydney managed to keep the quaffle away from Zara, and attempted to shoot. However, Sophia knew from watching previous matches that Cassandra was a strong keeper, and hence defended the goal, catching the quaffle.
Now, Arywiel was attempting to hit a bludger at Sydney-hopefully Sydney would dodge it, Weetzie was getting ready to intercept a pass from Cass to Zara, if that's what Cass decided to do, and Sophia strongly hoped that Weetzie would catch it and pass to one of the other chasers or shoot herself. Bryce was doing his job as a beater well, defending Sydney and trying to deflect the bludger to Cass-that would make scoring easier. It was still 0 - 0, and getting rather tense. Ivy was blocking a pass to Lenora too, and Ashley was sending a bludger to Zara. She hoped both of these would be successful. And finally Ivy was subbing in Harmony in place of Sydney.
As the game went on, Sophia held on to her broom tightly, carefully watching the actions. It was her job to defend the goals, and she didn't want to give Gryffindor the early advantage of scoring!

Post by Harmony Chan H6 on Dec 22, 2007 21:25:56 GMT
Harmony patted down her Quidditch robes anxiously, though a proud smile flickered at her lips. Yes, Harmony was proud to be representing Hufflepuff in Quidditch games. Only the best of the houses got to play, and Harmony happened to be the youngest on the Hufflepuff team, which primarily consisted of sixth years and above. Still, Harmony didn’t think she hindered the team in any way; she honestly felt that she had earned her right to be there. She was small and agile, and a good team player; she was also accurate at dodging and passing. These were good traits for a Quidditch player, and even better for a Chaser. For once, Harmony’s height and weight gave her an advantage, as she could be faster than the heavier flyers. Often, Harmony did use this well. She didn’t have an amazingly tactical mind, but nevertheless, she had learnt over the years to hone it to be more competitive and strike at the enemy’s weaker regions. Harmony admitted she felt guilty each time she did them, but usually only afterwards – during the match she had little time to contemplate anything, as it was go go go!
Harmony patted her broomstick with a fond smile as she listened to Ivy’s captaincy speech, with Ashley Hill as vice to back her up. Currently the team first up would be Sydney, Ivy and Weetzie as the Chasers, all sixth years, Bryce and Ashley as Beaters, Charles Driscoll as Seeker, and Sophia as Keeper. Once Ivy had finished, the seven chosen players readied themselves and walked onto the pitch. Harmony walked over to the substitutes bench to wait her turn, as Ivy had said to her before she could be needed at any time. She watched eagerly as Madam Hooch repeated the rules of the game as she always did; meanwhile, the captains shook hands and the stadium roared its approval. It used to frighten Harmony, the loud screams and shouts, and the tangible pressure places on your shoulders. However, yet again this was something she had adjusted to in due time. Being selected as one of the Quidditch players for Hufflepuff had really helped Harmony progress in more ways than one in life.
The whistle sounded throughout the stadium, a shrill shriek from Madam Hooch. Then, the fourteen Quidditch players were off, joining them in the throng one red large Quaffle, two nasty little Beaters, and the tiny golden Snitch. Smiling to herself at the thrill that ran up her spine, Harmony’s eyes lingered on the latter object for only a second, before it disappeared. Seeker was the second job Harmony would most likely have gone for had she not become a Chaser, but Harmony was still glad she had eventually chosen to play as one of the three integral parts of the team. It had helped build her team work, and she had worked with some very nice sixth year girls, girls whom knew Aurora. Harmony groaned silently when she saw Lenora, a Gryffindor Chaser, catch the Quaffle ahead of Ivy, but it was soon intercepted by Sydney. Harmony cheered for her team loudly, backed by rapt Hufflepuffs in the stands bearing banners of bright yellow and glittering gold. Harmony loved the atmosphere rather than detested it now, for it really gave everyone a sense of coming together against all odds.
Harmony urged Sydney on in her mind as the Hufflepuff Chaser sped up the pitch. Meanwhile, out of the corner of her eye she noticed Bludger and Beater moments in and out, the black objects being whacked to Zara, one of the Gryffindor Chasers, then to Lenora, and then to Scott, the opposing Seeker. Bryce and Ashley were two of the best Beaters there were, and were going a splendid job; Harmony felt sorry for their victims. However, Branden and Arywiel, the Gryffindor equivalents, were holding their own. One Bludger, Harmony noticed, did manage to get to Scott, but it hadn’t injured him severely. Somewhat glad, but also disappointed, Harmony looked back to where Sydney was attempting to shoot. There it went – the red Quaffle sailed through the air as Sydney neatly sidestepped Zara. Harmony hoped it would head for a goalpost, but unfortunately, it was caught by Cassandra, the Gryffindor Keeper and Captain.
A collective groan rose amongst the Hufflepuffs. Harmony sighed, but knew the game was not over. Neither Charles nor Scott had managed to discover the elusive Snitch yet, so Hufflepuff still had everything to play for. It was then Harmony’s attention was caught when Ivy approached Madam Hooch on her broom to stop the game momentarily. Harmony realised she planned on substituting her in, and excitedly stood up and got herself prepared, checking she was wearing the right gear. Harmony felt sorry for Ivy; she hadn’t had the best of games, having been targeted and almost hit by some Bludgers, and she had failed to get her hands on the Quaffle at the moment. However, now that Ivy was substituting her in, maybe their luck would change. Harmony jogged out onto the pitch as the crowd hushed and the players floated somewhat serenely in the middle of the air. Harmony glanced quickly round the stadium, hoping to catch a glimpse of Aurora and Ari, but Ivy had signalled for her already, so Harmony mounted her broom and kicked off into the air. The sensation of rising made her stomach jumble along with her nerves and excitement, but Harmony swallowed it down and stopped carefully beside Ivy. “Hi.” Harmony smiled in return, glad to be playing. “Thank you, Sydney.” She added as she watched her fellow Chaser descend. “I’ll do my best.” Her last statement was directed at Ivy more than anything, before the whistle was blown again and the game restarted.
Immediately Harmony went flew towards Maryn Livley, the last of the three Gryffindor Chasers. Like Ivy, she hadn’t had a chance to touch the Quaffle yet, and Harmony would make sure this would not happen anytime soon. Harmony smiled a grim smile of determination, watching as Cass handled the Quaffle and would most likely send it to an awaiting Zara. However, Weetzie and Ivy were also on standby, so they should be fine. Harmony would do her job so Maryn at least could not get the Quaffle.

Real Quidditch matches with professional players lasted much longer than school games, in fact Charles recalled hearing the record was somewhere in the negibourhood of a few months. Now the Quidditch pitch of Hogwarts was designed so that games didn't last that long and the Snitch they was supoosedly a bit slower than that used in professional Quidditch, yet Charles had a bad feeling that he had not even glimpsed it up till now. Shake it off! he told himself fiercely, and he put on some extra speed and gritted his teeth, resuming his search with renewed energy. Scott was recovering from a Bludger that had just hit his broom and he definitely couldn't see the Snitch. If only he could find it now! He wondered for a moment about the susbstitution that had below him but told himself he had more important things to attend to. He flew back to the top of the pitch and looked below him, hoping against hope he'd see it. ((You guessed it... Snitch Searching! ))

Cass blocked the oncoming quaffle into the goal. As she breathed a sigh of relief, the sudden realization came upon her that she had the quaffle. With a quick look, Cass looked to see which of her chasers were open. Then, she heard Zara scream, " Over here, Cass!" She knew know that all of the Hufflepuffs would be keeping their eyes on Zara. With a gulp, she through the ball towards Lenora with the hope that the Hufflepuffs wouldn't be prepared for the pass.

((First off, sorry for the lateness of this post. The next round will go back to ending at the normal time, some point between 9 and 10 PM Eastern Time.
Second, there has been a change in line up, Harmony Chan has replaced Sydney so now all actions directed at Sydney will be transferred to Harmony.
Finally, Arywiel, I am afraid you can only perform one action per round. Therefore I will only count the first action you posted, hitting a bludger at Harmony.
Arywiel hits a bludger at Harmony and Bryce tries to defend her Arywiel = Bludger (D6 + Str) = 5 + 4 = 9 Bryce = Defend Bludger (D8 + Str) = 2 + 6 = 8
Bryce fails to defend Harmony. It is assumed he would warn her and she would swerve. Arywiel = Bludger (D6 + Str) = 6 + 4 = 10 Harmony = Avoid (D8 + Dex) = 8 + 5 = 13
Harmony swerves and is not hit by the bludger.
Ashley sends a bludger at Zara. Nobody defends Zara and Zara did not swerve; therefore the bludger hits Zara but as she is not performing any actions she does not need to roll concentration.
Cassandra attempts a pass to Lenora and Ivy tries to intercept. Cassandra = Pass (D6 + Dex) = 6 + 5 = 9 Ivy = Intercept (D4 + Dex) = 1 + 4 = 5
Ivy fails to intercept. Lenora has the quaffle.
Scott and Charles both look for the snitch. Scott = Searching (D30) = 22 Charles = Searching (D30) = 18
22 and 18 are not the snitch number. Neither seeker notices the snitch.))

Arywiel gave a small yelp of joy as the aimed Bludger hit Harmony and she failed to block the awaiting Maryn. Ary gripped her broom tightly and lost some height. She swung her bat over her shoulder and circled the players like a vulture would circle its prey. Cass passed to Lenora and Ivy attempted to intercept. Lenora sped past her with the Quaffle. Arywiel whooped at the Gryffindor's skill as a chaser and sent a stray Bludger hurtling towards Ivy. Ary shouldered her bat and whirled around to chase Lenora. She raised her eyes and saw Scott and Charles circling for the snitch. Neither had seen anything.

Post by Zara Phoenix on Dec 23, 2007 12:39:33 GMT
Zara floated patiently as Ivy Tunstall substituted in Harmony Chan, a fourth year to replace Sydney Rawson in the Chaser position. Zara had seen Harmony in play few times, but from what she had gathered, she was swift. Finally the game restarted. Harmony moved to block Maryn. Zara watched as Cass looked between her and someone else, and realised Lenora had neared the goalposts too. Realising she was surrounded by Hufflepuffs intent on not letting her near the Quaffle, Zara began to back pedal even more, slowly so the Hufflepuffs wouldn’t notice. It was then a Bludger skimmed her arm from behind, causing Zara to cry out in pain and surprise. Thankfully it had been a close shot, and the black object had only touched the surface of her skin. Still, Zara could tell from the light throbbing now that there would be a bruise tomorrow morning. Annoyed that she hadn’t paid more attention to her surroundings, and wondering where her team’s Beaters were, Zara did a swift scan again of her surroundings. Branden and Arywiel seemed to have their hands full with other things. Arywiel had just almost hit Harmony, much to Zara’s elation. The Hufflepuff Beaters were in good shape today; who had hit her? Zara peered round her back to see Ashley Hill, a fellow seventh year. Ah. Bryce’s girlfriend, right? Or something like that, Zara thought.
Keeping a close eye now on Ashley behind her, Zara watched with a small smile as Cass launched the large red ball at Lenora, who caught it. Maryn was preoccupied with Harmony anyway, and she herself was busy trying not to get hurt. No one had noticed Lenora, had they? Ivy had tried to intercept the pas, but failed. Pleased, Zara turned round her broom and shot off in the direction of the Hufflepuff goalposts, where Sophia Hallington was waiting. She saw Lenora accelerating fast behind her, and hoped this meant Gryffindor would score the first ten points in the match. “Lenora, over here!” Zara shouted over the rushing of the wind, hand held out to attract her attention. ”Concentrate… concentrate…” Zara warned herself, looking around for Maryn. If a Hufflepuff Chaser or Beater came her way, Zara wanted to know that the Chasers had back up. Maryn hadn’t managed to touch the Quaffle yet, and neither had Zara, and she was itching for some action.

Cassandra sighed with relief as Lenora caught the quaffle and sped off in the other direction. Truly, that was a moment that had Cass on edge. Cass had spent three years as a beater, and now she was doing a pretty fair job as a keeper. Cass scanned the pitch for the dozenth time that afternoon. She watched as Zara tended to her bruise for a moment and then sped off in the other direction. The game was going good so far, and hopefully Gryffindor would score the first goal soon. To Cass, the first goal was always the most important. Cass readied herself on her broom in case the quaffle decided to head her way again.

Lenora watched as Cassandra caught the quaffle thrown at the hoops. "Woo! Go Cass!" she called out. Her captain had spent so long playing beater that everyone had wondered when she told them she would be their new keeper. Of course, Cassandra had made the switch quite well and there had been no need to wonder. And now here, at their first game, Cass had proved to the whole school why she was the new keeper. Lenora flew off into position ready to catch the quaffle with Ivy close by ready to intercept. Suddenly the red ball flew into the air in their direction. It passed right by Ivy and into Lenora's arm. Speeding up Lenora looked and noticed Maryn flying close by. Hoping she was paying attention Lenora tried throwing the quaffle up to her.

Ashley grinned as she heard the familiar clank of her bat against the ball. The bludger headed straight toward Zara, hitting against the chasers arm. Finally; she had hit someone, but it didn’t seem to fair since the other two beaters were occupied with the other bludger. It was an excellent strategy Bryce and Ash used. Looking up she noticed the quaffle fall back into Lenora arms, the Hufflepuff chasers right on her tail. Sighing, Ashley noticed Branden off in the distance hitting the bludger toward Ivy. The other Gryffindor beater was doing the same on the other side. “Ivy!” she called again swinging hard hoping to make contact with the bludger this time. “Bryce!” Ashley yelled again over her shoulder hoping that he would get the other bludger. Swinging hard she waited until the bludger got closer before hitting hard against the iron ball.

Weetzie watched as Ivy substituted Harmony in for Sydney; knowing that her captain had almost subbed her instead. Weetzie tucked some loose strands behind her ear that had fallen free from the pony tail, as the game resumed. She watched for a bit and then she was off. She had to at least put her best effort into this game and she couldn't quite do that when she wasn't paying attention or doing anything at all. Weetzie flew around the others on their broomsticks, toward Lenora; a Gryffindor 7th year who was attempting to pass to another Chaser. Weetzie gritted her teeth and flew in between the two brooms; either trying to block Lenora from being able to throw it up, block Maryn from catching it, or if neither worked - intercepting the pass. She then dipped lower, watching the game intensely, seriousity etched all over her face. She followed the pass from Lenora to Maryn with her eyes, Weetzie tried to intercept the pass. She was torn from concentrating on the Quaffle, when Branden's well aimed Bludger was seconds from being sent towards Cassandra. Shouldering her bat, she streamed through the air towards the latter, pulling up to the captain. She hovered there, waiting for the Bludger, if it were to come hurtling in their direction. She braced herself, ready to ward it off.

Post by Maryn Livley on Dec 24, 2007 2:56:44 GMT
The match was well underway. Maryn could barely fly without getting in someone else’s way. Well, that was just part of the game after all. She tried her best to dodge players and stay far away from bludgers, but that was difficult really. Maryn took a deep breath. Really, she had done much all game. She had just tried her best to intercept the quaffle a few times, but really she hadn’t gotten nearly close enough. Nope, her way was blocked most of the time, too many people flying too close together. Everything was going by so fast, Maryn barely had time to think. Her heart was racing but she tried her best to keep up with the quaffle even if she couldn’t get close to it. She was rather fast on her broom actually. That had been Leon’s doing. He had taught her how to play of course. But that was all in the past. Maryn barely spoke of her dead friend anymore. Yes, Leon was the one that had gotten her into Quidditch, but the few people that knew this were kind enough to not bring it up. Anyone that knew Maryn knew that she had different things in her past that she didn’t like to talk about. Maryn was just like that. She figured what was in the past should stay there. She shook her head slightly and tried to focus on the game.
Maryn gained speed. Fellow Chaser, Lenora had the quaffle. Maryn had tried to stay near the action even if it had been rather difficult. People were everywhere. It was hard to stay in the mix. Maryn gained speed to stay with everyone. It was then that Maryn noticed that Lenora was going to try to pass with her. Maryn kept up hoping that everyone would get out of the way even if that seemed unlikely. Maryn nodded to Lenora as she stay that she was watching her. Maryn then lunged out and tried to grab the quaffle.
