Emmy Parker raked her fingers loosely through her blonde hair as she stared out the window with a small longing in her eyes. Her right leg dangled out the window, her back against the wall and her head resting it against it, too. She hugged a pillow to her chest as the wind pushed her hair behind her into the corridor. Honestly, a professor or prefect could walk by and yell at her for sitting in the window – but she didn’t care. In fact, there was quite a few things Emmy didn’t care about. She wanted to feel the wind on her face, look up into the sky, but she wanted all that without having to go outside. So, here she was, sitting in the window as she often did. She usually sat on her bedroom window at home, so the smoke would carry out, but at Hogwarts – she just liked the feeling of leaning against the window and closing her eyes to feel the sun on her face. It was one of the little things that Emmy cherished. She looked out the window once more before deciding perhaps she should do something worthwhile. Hah, like what? What was there to do that was “worthwhile?” Emmy reached out and pulled the window shut before turning around and crossing her arms in thought as she walked down the corridor. She could find Emma, pester her maybe about doing something together. Then again, Emma was with that one guy she was always with now-a-days. Emmy had given up on keeping track of the names of the guys her sister dated. It was absolutely pointless.
So, if not Emma, who? Who could Emmy use as companionship? There were few people that Emmy could stand, and fewer people who Emmy felt relaxed around. Relaxed was what she was going for, so she chewed on her bottom lip in thought a moment before coming up with a name. Ryann. Of course, the idea of hanging out with Ryann was so simple that she couldn’t believe that she hadn’t thought of it earlier. Ryann was easy to get along with, and even easier to feel relaxed around. For some reason, Ryann always seemed to prefer Emmy’s company to Emma’s and that made her okay in Emmy’s book. Anyone who preferred her to her sister was as good as gold. Besides, Ryann seemed to know that Emmy would rather not talk about anything to deal with her sister’s illness and they always were able to talk about something mindless – which was what was needed in a life like Emmy’s. Having made up her mind, Emmy had started in the direction of the Gryffindor Common Room, hoping to find Ryann there. Now, she reached the portrait and muttered the password briefly before entering the room. She looked around once and saw no sign of Ryann, so she headed toward the dorm that they shared.
Emmy pushed open the door and a smile graced her face at the sight of Ryann on her four poster, painting her nails. She dropped her book bag on the floor by the door and walked over to Ryann’s bed, perching herself on the end of it. “Can I use that after you? My nails are dull.” She held up her hand as if to prove her point. “Last time I used your polish, it stayed on for quite awhile, at least – until my mum saw it and decided that wearing nail polish was… um… what was the word…? Not lady like, I think.” Emmy shrugged and then got up to go to her sister’s bed, where she kneeled and pulled out a small box. She plucked out two bottles. One with a long neck and was a deep blue, and one that was the same shape but a light purple. “What’s your poison? I’ve got…” Emmy looked at the label on the deep blue bottle, “Midnight Blueberry and….” She looked at the other bottle, “Perfectly Purple.” She headed back to Ryann and lifted the bottles one after another in a way to pressure Ryann to choose, “Sparkling juices. Emma won’t drink anything else.”
