William Senetta watched as first years were Sorted and clapped dutifully when one was brought to the Ravenclaw table, looking so full of terror and curiosity is almost made Will laugh. Of course he remembered his Sorting only too well, and restrained from doing so. Instead he continued to clap with not nearly as much enthusiasm as his neighbor, not really paying attention. His mind kept on flashing back to Lucifer, standing in the field, watching him go. Did he understand that Will would do anything to get back to him? Did he realize that Will had to go, otherwise he would refuse? Probably not, even though Will had tried to explain a million times. Poor Lucifer probably thought that his partner (Will could never consider himself Luce's master) has deserted him, leaving him alone and uncertain.
Will ate his food slowly, tasting none of it. He only remembered feeling the wind in his hair, rushing in his ears, watching as Luce powerfully shot forward and passed the horse next to them as if it was the easiest thing in the world. The whistle, the gates being thrown open, dirt spraying underneath their hooves - for yes, when Will and Luce ran together, they merged into one being. Will sensed Lucifer's excitement and his lust for victory. He felt the dirt underneath his feet, the sky above him, the horse behind and beside him and the joy of winning. They were one. To be separated was like wrenching him away from... himself. His soul, his only care. Well... Will munched on his food. Maybe not his only care. But close enough - Lucifer was his heart. Now he was far, far away, and alone. Alone in the world of people. He liked horses better.
As soon as he was finished, Will didn't hesitate to immediately proceed to the common room. He didn't look forward to sleeping - it would be restless, if he could even get to sleep. Looking about at the bustling common room, he heard laughs and overjoyed voices as friends met again and told each other how good they looked. Will tried to block the noise from his ears but in vain - for it seemed obscenely loud and obnoxious. Even though the noise was by far very annoying, he wouldn't go to the common room. He'd much rather be in noise than silence, for silence allowed his mind to wander. And he knew where it would go first. His mind flashed back to seeing Lucifer standing there, watching him leave with expressionless black eyes. Oh, if only the summer had been longer. Only then it would have been harder to leave him. Yes, much, much harder.
Will settled down in an armchair and let his own thoughts drown out the noise that surrounded him. All that was left of the giggling was a buzz - for the only thing he could hear was a whinny.
