Adam rummaged through the trunk that sat at the foot of his bed. For the most part, it was full of old school work and books. He kept a lot of his past assignments and almost every text book he had ever bought. He wanted a record of everything, and hoped that his books would be useful someday in his future career. Finding the notebook that he was looking for, he pulled it out and shut the trunk.
Walking into the Slytherin common room from the boys' dormitories, Adam scanned the room looking for his spunky little sister Sierra. He didn't spot her head of blonde hair anywhere. Often, it was what he looked for to spot her in a crowd. The two of them shared the same inheritance of blonde hair from their parents, only hers was much lighter than his.
Finding an empty couch, Adam took a seat and began to flip through the notebook, occasionally reading some of what was written inside. It had been his during his second year at Hogwarts. Inside were all the notes that he took that year in each of his classes. He could tell that he was a lot younger when he had written in it. The handwriting was unmistakably his, but it was a lot messier and less organized. Still though, he thought it was pretty good note-taking for a second year. If only Sierra had cared as much as he did about school work. Sighing, he looked up toward the girls' dormitories and waited for Sierra to come and meet him.

With a heavy sigh, Sierra glared at the notes in front of her. This was the last thing she wanted to be doing at the moment, but Adam had a point when had told her that she had better start working harder on her studies if she ever wanted to get a good job. It just didn't seem necessary at her age to worry about that sort of thing now, but he insisted that she should start thinking about it, even if it was only her second year at Hogwarts. Begrudgingly, she had agreed to at least try to work a bit harder on getting better grades, but it wasn't as if hers were terrible. They just weren't as great as his had always been.
Glancing at the clock, she noticed that it was five minutes past the time she had agreed to meet Adam in the common room. Apparently, he had his notebook from his second year, and he had offered it for Sierra to use as an additional study aid. The lessons probably going to be exactly the same as she would be learning, but she figured it wouldn't hurt. Closing the books that she had open and throwing a sweatshirt over top of her tank-top, Sierra rushed out of the room to where she was sure Adam would have been waiting for at least ten minutes now. He was always early.
"Hey," she said, plopping down next to her older brother on the couch. "If it makes you feel any better," she began, giving him a partially sarcastic look as she rolled her eyes, "I'll have you know that I was studying. That's why I'm a little late." She looked up at Adam to see what his response might be. Even if he did seem to nag her all the time and act more like a father than a brother, she appreciated the bond that they did have. If her parents weren't going to make the effort, she was at least appreciative that she had Adam.
"So is this the magical book?" she joked, pulling the notebook from his hands. "If I just read this, I am automatically guaranteed to get all perfect marks," she said, giving Adam a large, cheesy smile with a tilt of her head. She knew he would have something serious to say, but that was just Adam.
Naturally, Sierra would have soon left after getting the book. She wasn't much for talking, even if it was Adam. They only seemed to talk a lot when one of them needed someone to just listen. However, she did have some questions she wanted to ask him. Lately, she had noticed he was spending a lot of time with another older Sltyh that Sierra knew was part of the Queens. Adam hadn't said anything about it, and Sierra had been meaning to ask, as she was curious to know more about the two of them. "So what's up with you and this Queen you've been hanging around with? She's pretty, you know. But I don't think she's your type." Sierra gave an innocent look, hoping to get as much as she could from Adam. It was the nosy side of her coming out.

"Good," he replied simply, not wanting to make too big of a deal about her studying- at least not until she started to get better grades. Then, he thought he might show a little more enthusiasm about her efforts. Plus, he wasn't even sure she would continue, although he hoped that she would.
"Eh..." he began, but stopped as Sierra snatched the book from his hands before he could stop her. He knew she wasn't being totally serious, but he still thought she didn't quite understand the concept of hard work. "Think what you want," he said, rolling his eyes back at Sierra. "But just realize that it's not that easy, to do well. Not that I don't think you can do it," he added quickly. "I think you are more than capable, and it is very worthwhile if you do try, but just realize that it does take work. There is no 'magic book' that can get you the grades on its own," he finished, giving a serious look. His eyes showed a bit of teasing behind them, but he was still serious for the most part. He knew it was a delicate balance that was needed for Sierra. He couldn't be too serious, or she would just be annoyed by him, and he couldn't be too playful, or she would just brush him off and ignore his advice.
"Here we go," Adam said with a grin as he rolled his eyes again. "I should have known you would ask eventually." Adam bit his lip and smiled. "Dixie's just a good friend," he said, truthfully. Sure they had talked about a lot of deep things, but through it all, they were just good friends, weren't they? Adam thought about it for a moment before returning to Sierra. "And yes, she is a Queen," he said with heavy sarcasm in his voice. Having that title meant that many assumptions would be made, and he knew that. Before he had met Dixie, he would have made the same assumptions. He knew that no matter how hard he tried explaining that Dixie was a unique person, not like the stereotypical Queen, it would still come short of reality. But he tried anyways. "She's a great girl though," he began. "She's not like what you would think one of the Queens would be like. Yes, she's different, but it's a good different. You know, like a different that shows she not just like everyone else." Adam wondered if Sierra even cared or really understood what he meant. "As for being my type, well, let's just not worry about that. We get along just fine, and it's not like either of us are looking to be in a relationship anyways." Part of his last statement was true. Half of him liked to have Dixie there as just a good friend, but he still couldn't stop himself from occasionally wondering if it might ever turn to something more. Dixie was a great girl, but there was so much more to her that he knew he had yet to discover. At least for now though, he valued their friendship for what it was.

"You worry too much," Sierra said, shutting the notebook in a rather uninterested manner. She knew Adam had doubts as to whether or not she really could make am improvement with her school work. That was one of the main reasons she really wanted to though. He was the only person she really cared about proving herself to. Sighing, she leaned forward and placed her chin in her hands, waiting to hear about this girl that she had asked about.
She noticed the small grin that came to Adam's face whenever he began to mention this girl, Dixie, as he called her. Whether he would admit it or not, Sierra could tell by the way he was talking about her that he had a crush on her. She had gotten to know him all to well for him to be able to hide anything from her. "Well then, I guess I'll be the judge of that then," she said, raising her eyebrows when Adam tried explaining that Dixie wasn't like the rest of the Queens. Sierra actually didn't know much about the Queens from experience, but she had heard a lot of rumors. "When do I get to meet her?" Sierra asked, with innocent eyes, knowing fair well that Adam couldn't say no. After all, she was his closest friend, or at least his only friend until this girl came along. Sierra wouldn't deny that there was some jealously there, but she surely wouldn't blatantly admit to it either. She was happy for Adam at least- happy that he was happy, or that he at least seemed to be happy. Surely, she thought, if Adam said Dixie was a great girl, she couldn't be too bad. Sierra knew Adam had a pretty good judge of character and that he wasn't the type to just go around socializing with anyone. Dixie had to have been pretty special to be able to get Adam out of his shell. It's about time though, Sierra thought to herself, while giving Adam a nice big smile.
