Vanessa closed her eyes as her fingers lingered over the piano. the white and black keys were everything to her, as pathetic as that might be. The piano made Vanessa who she was, especially this particular piano. This piano held her life story, the thing that knew her the most was inanimate. The only person that knew her more than most did was Aryeh McKenzie, and he didn't know about Hogwarts. Jasmine Anderson knew her better than anyone did at school, but not better than Aryeh. They were her best friends and although they had never met each other, they had heard about each other more than enough times. Vanessa sighed and opened her eyes to see Aryeh leaning against the door frame that led into the parlor where her piano was, where it had been moved three years ago form the hiding place in the walls.
Aryeh McKenzie, who was turning 19 in a matter of weeks, had a short haircut of black hair and shockingly brown eyes. He was almost 6 feet tall and rather skinny, almost too lanky. But that didn't stop him from having numerous girlfriends. That didn't stop Vanessa from getting jealous. Over the years, Vanessa had come to hate whatever new girlfriend Aryeh had that week or month. She knew they wouldn't ever last, Aryeh wasn't capable of keeping a steady relationship. His longest relationship had to have been 2 months with some girl he never talked to, ever. "Hey, Ghost Girl." Vanessa glared slightly at him, but with a tiny hint of a smile on her face. 'Ghost Girl' was the name he had given her when he first heard her playing. It just kind of stuck as their relationship grew, "Play something for me," he was standing beside her now, his hand on her shoulder. Vanessa nodded and sat down on the bench, her fingers hovering over the keys; and then she started. It was a song she knew from memory. One she worked on for a moneth before she had it down perfectly the way she figured it was supposed to be. Since she hadn't any actual lessons, Vanessa was very skilled at the piano. Her fingers made contact with keys and almost like magic, the music flowed out of her into the piano and into the air. Her eyes closed, bringing the image of the sheet music back to her mind.
Vanessa continued to play and about five minutes later she ended the song and sat in silence with Aryeh, who knew better than to immediately talk after she had just played. It wasn't something she had ever told him, it was more of a mutual understanding. She didn't speak until he did after he played, and neither did he after she. Finally, Vanessa pulled her hands back with a sigh. "It feels like something's missing in that piece." She whispered. Aryeh sat down beside her and let his hands hover over the keys, before turning to look at Vanessa. A small smile was on his lips as he pressed a key down and started ot play the same piece she had just finished. Vanessa had taught him how to play it once she felt comfortable enough to play in front of him.
"You're right, and I know what's missing." Andhe broke into lyrics that fit perfectly to the song. Vanessa's eyes grew wide as she listened to him sing. She knew he had a good voice, so it wasn't that she iddn't know he could sing, it was that he wrote lyrics to the song that surprised her. When he was finished, he smiled at her with a light blush in his cheeks, "It would probably sound better if you sing it, because I sang it an octave lower." Vanessa smiled and put her hands to the piano, and began to play.
"I don't believe in that smile that you leave, when you walk away and say goodbye. Well, I don't expect the world to move underneath me, but for God's sake could you try?..." She made it through the rest of the song with cues from Aryeh, and when it as over, she smiled. "How long had you been working on that?" She asked, extremely touched, although he probably didn't even write it for her. Aryeh shrugged, and Vanessa threw her arms around him in a tight embrace.
