"Trevor?" Mack pushed open the door to his bedroom slowly and quietly. She peered around the door into his dark and musty room. There was movement in the bed, and Mack stepped inside closing the door quietly behind her. She was about to climb onto the edge of his bed when the lump in it sat up and red hair cascaded around small shoulders. Mack's eyes grew wide, "Oh! I-I'm sorry!" The girl yawned and shook her head, pushing the blankets aside to stand from Trevor's bed. "Don't worry about it," her accent was American and Mack nearly winced at it, "if you're looking for Trev - he isn't in here. He stayed in the guest bedroom last night." At this, Mack looked startled, "He- he did?" The girl nodded and moved to an open suitcase by the closet, bending down and pulling out an outfit, "Yep, he's a gentleman. Will you tell him I'll be ready in an hour when you go and see him? Thanks." Mack couldn't say anything, so she nodded as the girl passed her into Trevor's adjoining bathroom. She took a moment to gather herself before turning and leaving Trevor's bedroom and heading down the hallway to the guest room.
Mack didn't know what she was having more trouble comprehending. The fact that there was a woman in Trevor's bed, or the fact that he hadn't stayed in the same bed as the woman had. Oddly enough, she found the latter rather comforting. Mack bit her lip at this and pushed open the door to the guest bedroom; half expecting to find another red head in this bed. There wasn't one, though. Just Trevor, snoring rather loudly. Mack smiled softly to herself and closed the door behind her before moving onto his bed and sitting down beside him, watching him. He groaned, feeling her weight on his bed; "Kenze...?" Mack looked amused a moment because he immediately thought it was her and not the other girl. She shifted so she was lying down on her side, facing him as he continued to talk, "There's something... something I should tell you..." Mack froze, wondering if he was awake or talking in his sleep - not sure which one she wanted most. Instead, she decided to keep quiet; willing him to continue, "I lied to you, Mack, a lot. I know, I know you know that I lied - you're clever that way - but I feel like I should tell you just how much I lied to you."
He turned and looked up at her, his blue eyes wide open and staring into Mack's. So, he was awake. Mack didn't say anything, so he continued; "The Hanners... Mack... they aren't real. I mean, they are, but they weren't magical and they couldn't have kids. I... I don't know why I went through with that scheme, it's what I do, I guess. I ruin people's lives. I make them miserable. Madilyn, if she had existed, wouldn't have loved me..." His eyes dimmed, dismal and gray. Mack frowned slightly and reached over, brushing his hair out of his dark eyes. He leaned into her touch and then sighed, "And... I didn't get beat up because I was gambling..." Mack stared at him now. This was something new to her. The Hanner thing she knew about. This she did not, "What do you mean?" Trevor took her hand and kissed the knuckles of it before sitting up slightly. "You met Joselyn, right? In my room?" Mack nodded, watching him and listening intently. "I got beat up because... because of her. She's the sister of this bad guy who I dated... for two years. She left a couple of months before our parents got married, and then she came back and, well, I didn't want anything to do with her." He looked at her meaningfully, and Mack looked away quickly as he continued on; "She got upset with me, and she told her brother. You know the rest..."
Mack breathed in deeply, "So... why is she in your bathroom, showering, and telling me to tell you that she'll be ready in an hour -right at this moment?" Trevor chuckled and Mack wondered if he could see something in her eyes that he didn't want her to see. "She showed up at the door last night, suitcase and all; telling me her brother kicked her out and she didn't know where to go. I let her stay in my room for the night, I'm supposed to take her to the airport." "Oh..." Mack said dumbly, "So... you didn't... you two didn't...?" "Christ, no! No, no, no! I showed her my room, bid her goodnight, and came in here. I actually... stopped at your door first, but you were silent inside so I didn't bother to see if you were awake." Mack smiled softly and was about to reply to him when the door opened to reveal Joselyn in Trevor's black bathrobe and running a towel over her red hair. She stopped in the doorway, seeing the two of them on his bed, and raised her eyebrows. Mack gave Trevor a quick look before moving from the bed and straightening her jacket, "I guess I'll see you when you get home, then?" she asked Trevor politely. He nodded, "Yep." "Ok... good... good... nice to meet you," Mack grinned politely at Joselyn and then slipped past her into the hallway, trying to control the bright smile that was threatening to break over her face.
