Mary sat on her bed pushing the food on her plate around with her fork – not bringing any of it to her mouth. She honestly hadn’t wanted any food but Professor Snape had insisted that she get something into her system even if she wasn’t going to the feast. She had had a big shock to her system – the train being attacked, Kris in a coma, and she overheard the teachers talking about Laura – a Hufflepuff in her year. She couldn’t understand why they were even doing a feast this year – how could anyone want to eat? Her big brother was in the hospital wing for Lord knows how long – she couldn’t even bear to think he might not make it – Kris would. The feast would likely be over soon though – she and Dana had stayed in the Hospital Wing for as long as they were allowed before Madam Pomfrey threw them out so it was now late into the night.
This year was just going to be horrid – Mary knew it. Sure she and Jeremy had left on good terms so her summer wasn’t quite as bad as she had expected but… First Charlie was upset over his sister who was thankfully back at school for this her final year. Then Mary got in that argument with that annoying girl on the train whose name she still didn’t know. Then it was attacked for goodness sakes. And now Krissy Bear… she couldn’t even think about him lying in that bed bruised and unconscious.
Knowing she wouldn’t be able to keep a thing down Mary placed the plate on her side table and lay back in her bed. The door to the room was closed but the green curtains around her bed were open and Mary was too lethargic even to flick them closed. Morosely she lay there with tears in the corner of her eyes threatening to escape when the door swung open.

Maddie sighed as she made her way down to the dungeons. The feast had just gotten over, and she walked down, in front of everybody else, so she wouldn't be trampled by the older students, who were thicker than ever, but were still in Slytherin. She sighed disapprovingly at that thought, and raised her eyebrows, when she reached the stone wall, that was the entrance to the Slytherin common room.
She taped her foot impatiently, waiting for the walls to spread apart, and make an entry-way, after saying the password, so she could walk through. She walked through, to the Slytherin common room. As she expected, it was completely deserted, because mostly everybody else was still down at the feast, talking and what not.
She made her way up to the fourth year girls' dorms, to see if there would be anything to do there. She swung the door open, and was a bit surprised, to see a good friend of hers, Mary, was laying on her bed. She seemed to be upset about, but Maddie couldn't put her finger on it right away. Before doing anything else, she racked her brain, trying to think of what the problem might be, to be careful not to say anything wrong. She then stumbled upon something... During the feast, there was word of a Slytherin, getting injured pretty badly in the train attack, it was... it was... Maddie thought back to what she remembered from the people talking around her. His name was Kris Graas, that was who it was. Maddie didn't know him very well, but she knew that Mary was very close with him, and she figured that that could probably be the problem.
She sat down on her bed, that was only one away from Mary, and turned to her. "Umm... hey..." she said, with an awkward, short kind of grin.

The food hadn't touched her mouth. The pumpkin juice hadn't graced her lips. She was hungry, and thirsty. But she didn't want to eat or drink. Mack sat in the common room- her eyes watching the flames lick savagely. The flames danced beautifully, but killed without hesitation. What a world. Dumbledore's speech rang in her ears. He was right. The times were getting darker- and just standing by and watching wasn't something Mack really wanted to do. She wanted to help. But the right side. Her fathers polluted ways weren't with her anymore, she could choose which was right...on her own. But didn't think she had the nerve to even think of doing it.
She stood from the armchair she had been sitting in, and walked toward the fourth year girls dormitories. Maybe Mary would be in there. Maybe she could erase the thoughts from Mack's mind. Or, maybe not. Mack's eyes grew wide as she saw Mary in a state which Mack had never seen in a Slytherin before. Well...besides Padme. But Padme was much worse...and Mack wanted to make sure Mary didn't go anywhere near that road. Maddie was also in there. She seemed to be in an awkward position. Mack sighed and walked over to Mary, perching herself on the end of her bed.
"Hey, Mary...did you eat at all?" She asked her friend, her eyes looking at the plate which didn't seem to have been eaten off of. Mack mentally shrugged. She hadn't eaten either.

Mary flicked her eyes up to Maddie as she came in but then returned to the green bedspread right away. “Hi”, she choked out not knowing where she found the word. What a useless word it was at that. What did it really mean? It was nothing more than a greeting; meaningless except as a symbol of welcome or kindness, neither of which she felt at the moment. It was of course nothing personal against Maddie, Mary simply wasn’t capable of feeling anything beyond a slight tingle in her palms where her fingernails were digging in because her hands were so tightly fisted, and she didn’t think that really counted. Just a word then… it was no more than a word.
As Mary contemplated all this lethargically Mack walked into the room. Mary didn’t notice until her bed went down an inch as Mack sat on the end and asked if she had eaten anything. “Have you?” she asked her throat feeling so dry it hurt to talk but what did it honestly matter? She was sure Kris was in a hundred times more pain than she and he was most certainly not complaining. Quite the opposite in fact, he was incapable of saying a word. So all she could do was shut her mouth with him or continue to let these meaningless phrases escape her lips in response to everyone else.
Mary then turned on her bed so she was facing toward the back wall and all the beds there showing her back to Mack and Maddie. Again it was nothing personal though they may or may not see it that way… She picked up a book from that night table and rested it on the pillow beside her; open to the page the bookmark indicated she had left off. It could have well been upside down though for all she could make of the words as a tear finally escaped her eye, unrestrained by this new position. She then buried her head quickly in the pillows to hide her face so nobody could see the flow.

Aubree breathed a sigh of relief when the feast was over. It seemed to take forever. It was many minutes of hearing first years getting sorted into various houses. The time was made worse by the fact that she detested first years. Mainly because they were so close to her sister's age and Aubree never got along with Darmelle. Her parents had always treated her with more respect and Aubree was determined to steal it from her somehow. There were only a few Slytherin first years that had pleased Aubree. She gingerly made her way through the crowd to the common room. Aubree didn't feel like yelling to the filth that bumped into her. She was too tired for that. She was also a little shooken up. Aubree didn't understand why that Slytherin boy, Kris, had to be hurt. He hadn't done anything wrong. He had simply been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Aubree didn't know the boy personally, but she knew others that adored him.
As she entered the common room, Aubree could tell the overall mood was different. Most were moping over Kris and some seemed hurt. Aubree was glad she had been in the middle of the train and not the back, but that didn't make her fell any better. She also noticed that few students were speaking. Aubree shuttered a little because the common room was usually full of noisy first years, but they seems to realize the sadness of the situation. She moved right past the sad group to the girls dorm. Aubree was tired and needed rest. She looked terrible from the long day and she was determined to fix it. "Hello, ladies." She called to her dorm mates as she entered. Aubree then plopped onto her bed waiting for a response.

The book lay at her feet as Alexandra Ricci lay on the couch, looking up at the ceiling of the common room, her eyes tracing invisible figures she imagined. Her chest rose and fell with every breath, which prevented her from sleeping even more. The feast had been... rubbish, as usual. The whole time she wished she could run up to her dormatory room and just sleep. She sort of got her wish... Leaving the feast early and escaping to the common room, she didn't realize that she would lay awake for an hour as the feast came to an end. Reading, writing, even counting sheep didn't put her restless mind to sleep.
Voices drifted down the stairs from the dormatories into the common room. A heavy sigh escaped her lips as her boredom became too much. She lifted her upper body up and swung her legs over the side of the couch. With another sigh, she stood from the couch. She grabbed her book, glancing down at the cover. A dark looking vampiress stared back at her, her fangs glared. Alexandra walked up the stairs into her dormatory. Three girls sat inside, talking. Alexandra didn't smile, she didn't even accnolodge their excistence. Instead she walked to her bed and sat, throwing the book in her chest.

Maddie looked up, as two other girls entered the room. One, she had met a couple of times (Aubree), and had strolled in here, as though she didn't even notice Mary's state, in which she was currently in. Maddie raised her eyebrows expecting her to say something, but when the only words that came from her mouth were 'Hello ladies', Maddie figured that this girl was completely clueless.
The girl sighed deeply, and looked back to Mary. Mack had not entered the room as well, and was sitting on the end of Mary's bed. Maddie looked to the other girl, that seemed to have just walked in here, without even noticing the other four girls in the room, and was now doing... something. It seemed as though Mack was handeling the problem... but Maddie didn't want to look as though she was completely lost as words, or looking like an idoit. The other girl, Aubree, had already managed doing that, by strolling into the room, unaware of what was going on.
Maddie turned back to Mary, thinking of something that she could say. She wasn't exactly a soft type of person, and wans't good at dealing with problems at all. Maddie streached herself across her bed, her head resting on her hands, and her eyes turned to about the middle of the room. Maddie knew what she was about to say was pretty 'corny', I suppose one would say, so she tried to make it sound as formal, Slytherin worthy, but also a bit helpful and supportive of her friend, as she possibly could. "You know... not eating anything, and hiding the problem, isn't going to make things better... it's probably just going to make things worse... for you, that is." she started, placing her words carefully, and she was suprised at the words that were coming from her mouth, which didn't sound anything at all, like she usually was. "Mack's right, though. You're going to have to eat something. It's not going to do any good starving youself." she finished, with an almost, small, reassuring grin.
((No offense to anything said about Aubree. Maddie doesn't mind your character, that's just her opinion in this certain situation.))

Aubree looked at the girls as they seemed to comfort Mary. She looked at Mary and she seemed to be in a very bad state. Aubree felt like a jerk for not even noticing. She had been kind of oblivious to the whole situation and had completely forgotten Mary's attachment to Kris. She thought for a moment. Aubree wasn't good at comforting people because she had never really been comforted herself. She was afraid that she would say something stupid and upset Mary. Aubree didn't want to make her feel any worse than she already did. She looked at her for a moment. Mary was pretty bad and Aubree could understand why. The whole train attack had come from no where. She was disappointed that the Death Eaters would hurt a pure-blood even if by accident. Kris hadn't done anything to upset them well at least not to Aubree's knowledge.
Aubree just looked dumbstruck and maybe a bit stupid. She wasn't a good person to talk to if you needed help. She didn't have anyone to talk to like that when she grew up. People had never comforted her. They had merely told her to get over it and move on. Maybe that's why she wasn't the best talker in the world. Most of Aubree's words came out mean even if they weren't meant to be that way. She thought for another moment. "You need to eat, Mary. We don't want you to end up sick" Was all she could get out. Aubree had always been careful with her words. She had always been punished if she said the wrong thing. It was almost like she just didn't want people to frown upon her. Aubree gave out a small sympathetic smile. She really didn't want Mary to become ill and she hoped that came across with her statement. If not well, she would feel like more of a dork than she already did.
(It's okay. I feel bad that I didn't comfort her in the first place.)

Interesting... very interesting... was Alexandra's thoughts as she slowly sat atop her bedspread and, without shutting the curtains (so she could listen better), she laid back onto her pillow. Her fingers folded across her stomach and she stared at the girls before her. It seemed this Mary girl wasn't eating. Ohhhh how horrible! Alert the media!Alexandra smiled at her privet sarcasm. The girls obviously knew she was there. Girls have a certain skill, they just know when someone is staring at them. It would be impossible for them not to know Alexandra was listening, eavesdropping intently. Perhaps too intently for her own good, but it wasn't as if the Slytherin 4th year cared if this was the wrong thing to do anyway.
After the second person told Mary not eating was horrible, Alexandra got a bit bored, and a bit frustrated that this whole conversation wasn't getting any more exciting.
"I honestly don't see why you all care," Alexandra said. She wasn't the type to talk a lot, but when she did open her mouth, she always spoke the truth, or her version of the truth, "If she wants to starve herself, let her," her mind urged her to say more, but Alexandra shut her mouth. She got their attention, now it was time to not speak. She always found that made the best impression, well... the sort of impression she was trying to make.

As Mary lay there trying to hide from the world a few more of their dorm mates came in but Mary paid them no heed. She glared at Maddie, though, as she suggested Mary eat. Eat? Why would she want to eat? The human body could go a week without food… she had no reason to eat. Aubree agreed and Mary simply rolled her eyes. Weren't they supposed to be in Slytherin? So why couldn’t they mind themselves and allow her to mourn on her own? Busybodies… “Exactly.” Mary said when Alexandra advised them to back off. “If I don't want to eat I don't have to bloody eat. Honestly it makes no difference if I eat or no. My stomach is in knots and won't accept it anyways even if I did feel like eating. Not that that is anybody’s business but my own. If I wanna starve let me bloody starve.” Mary snapped picking up her wand and flicking it at the plate so it flew across the room – shattering against the other wall. Where everything landed she neither knew nor care.
((Aww I’m is so flattered everyone cares ;D Sorry Mary is too upset to see the good intentions but… well I am sure you know how these things are…))
