Ouch! was the first thought which erupted in Brianna’s mind that morning. She felt odd little claws digging into her leg, going in deep and pulling back so the skin surface was broken. In one swift movement Brianna was up, had seized her roommate’s kitten, and had carefully sent it on its way to the opposite bed in the room. Brianna didn’t mind kittens- always preferred her own little pink Puffskein, Alico, but she would always cuddle one if it was not four am in the morning. Which, it wasn’t. It was four oh nine in the morning, but the two meant the same things in Brianna’s mind. Her elder sister Lana disagreed and Brianna hated the way she was always corrected at home for misspeaking something just a tiny bit. Lana and Brianna disagreed on many cases- Hogwarts and magic, for instance was one. Lana was just jealous and disapproved of the skills Brianna had, while the younger sister loved it. And Alico- while the first-born Felica child disliked the creature more than a bit, Brianna found the tongue-up-nose thing funny. Maybe because Alico didn’t do it to her and only did so to Lana, but still.
Once the kitten had carefully rolled into a ball on the floor, Brianna rose from her bed. Once she was up, she was up, and nothing could make her go back to sleep. She was wearing white cotton shorts with a matching top for pyjamas, and after slipping over her shoulders a blue dressing gown and tucking her wand into one pocket, and a book into the other, she tip-toed softly into the Common Room. It was almost empty. A small purple pygmy puff Brianna recognised as one of her friends’ was sitting on the back of an armchair beside the fire. With a smile Brianna sat on the chair, and the Pygmy Puff poked her head. And poked. And poked. And continued to poke. It was rather annoying actually, and it wasn’t long until Brianna gave in and settled the little creature on her lap. But it still found a way to annoy her- by softly poking her leg!
“Your name is Meymey- right? Ahh you’re Meyghan’s cutie aren’t you? Well stop poking me or I will-“ Brianna broke off and looked down, to see a long droplet of blood streaming down her leg. Before it could reach her white shorts she stopped it short, scowling at the ceiling in direction of the kitten. “Thank you Meymey, I didn’t notice that. Silly kittens too big for their own boots! I bet you could teach that kitten a lesson now, don’t you think?” She made a few baby noises to the creature as she dabbed at the blood hopelessly with a tissue from her pocket, getting a little annoyed. This is exactly why I have a Puffskein! She moaned in her head. Kittens were just too much to handle. Brianna told this to Meymey as she mopped up the blood, which was slowly fading. The Pygmy Puff merely looked at Brianna blankly, before glancing behind her and chirruping at someone clearly pleasing from behind Brianna’s armchair.
