Pagan sat in an empty compartment with her back against the window and a small VAPD sitting on her knees as she sketched a picture of her cat sitting on the seat across from her. The train ride had begun almost an hour ago and she was just starting to tune all the noise from the corridor out when the compartment door suddenly flew open.

Alessa dashed into what she thought was an empty compartment, slammed the door and sagged against it in relief. "It's ok Luna," she murmured to the black kitten she clutched to her chest. Then Alessa noticed she wasn't alone.
She vaguely recognized the brunette girl as a third year Slytherin. Alessa smiled nervously at her and pushed sweaty blonde hair off her forehead. "Sorry about barging in but someone just set off some dungbombs out there and the smell is absolutely horrid. Mind if I stay here for a bit? My name is Alessa."
Coming further into the compartment, she put Luna on the seat next to the other cat and sat down next to the girl. "Ooh, what's that? You draw? Cool!"

Pagan eyed the girl nervously as she recognised her as a 3rd year Ravenclaw and closed her book. "Yeah people are stupid" she shrugged referring the to Dungbombs, “I’m Pagan Mason, you’re a Ravenclaw right?” “I’m Slytherin” She added before the girl could answer, “Just make sure you don’t open that door I don’t want the smell to come in” She smiled weakly, obviously uncomfortable with this much human interaction, and sat back waiting for Alessa to answer her…

"I thought so," replied Alessa. "Yeah, I'm a Ravenclaw. And weren't we in the same first year Herbology class?" Alessa sat back, settling into the comfortable train seat. "Don't remember much about that class though, I hated it. Those flutterby bushes were kinda creepy and last year I had to chase a leaping toadstool all over the greenhouse."
She grimaced. "I'm not looking forward to that class. I love Care of Magical Creatures though." Luna hopped off the seat and climbed into Alessa's lap. She stroked the kitten's head absently. "What's your favorite class Pagan?"

"Potions and History of Magic" Pagan answered with a shrug, "I like to blow things up in Potions and History's a breeze" "I don't really like Herbology either" she said smirking, "I mean come on their plants for crying out loud, how exciting can it be"

Alessa burst out laughing. "History of Magic? That's interesting. I don't think I've met anyone who actually likes that class. It bores me to tears and I love learning."
She scooped Luna out of her lap and cuddled her against her chest, burying her face in the kitten's soft black fur. Her sister, Verona, had given Luna to Alessa before she left after a short visit that summer.
Smiling faintly, Alessa returned her attention to Pagan and asked curiously, "Where are you from?"

"I never claimed to be normal" Paga shrugged smiling slightly, "Besides its not like I listen to the teacher, I just read the information" "Anyway my dad's English and my mums Italian" Pagan told her, "I was born in England though, what about you?"

"My da was English but my mom is Irish and I've lived in Ireland all my life." Alessa gazed out of the window. "I'd never even been to England until Hogwarts sent us an owl."
She grinned mischievously. "Ma was seriously considering not letting me come but I guilted her into it. My sister Verona actually opted not to go. She didn't want anything to do with magic. Rona wanted to be an actress... I guess Ma expected me to want something normal like that too."

"I didn't really have a choice" Pagan shrugged carelessly, "My dad went to Hogwarts and so did my two sisters and Italy was out of the picture, dad didn't think the school was good enough for his kids, purebloods you know" "I'd be disowned for not doing magic in my family" She shrugged again and looked down at her black nails waiting for Alessa to say something.

Alessa stared at Pagan. This girl was full of surprises. "You didn't have a choice? You almost make it sound like you don't want to be here," she murmured, her brow wrinkled in thought.

"Honestly it doesn't matter much where I am" Pagan shrugged again, "School's school to me, and it's different when your not given a choice, you know, it's almost like a job" "But I suppose if I really thought about it it's not so bad" Pagan said thoughtfully, "Never really thought about it before, I normally just do what I have to and get it out of the way"

Alessa snorted. "You just do what have to, huh? Does being a good, obedient little girl leave you any time for fun?" she teased gently. "School's fun, you should enjoy it, not just get through it."
Luna mewed, as if affirming her mistress' statment and Alessa scratched her ears affectionately.

"Hey if that works for you fine" Pagan shrugged carelessly, "I personally enjoy the out of class things, and the things I choose to do" "Anyway what are you doing once your off this train?" she asked curiously, obviously bored with their last conversation, or at least that's the way it seemed...

Laughing, she replied "Sorry, guess that's my bookish Ravenclaw side talking." Pursing her lips, Alessa thought about what Pagan asked. "Well after we get there, I suppose I'm going to go by the library or hang out on the grounds by the lake before it gets dark. My usual stuff," she said smiling. "What about you?"

"Don't know really" Pagan said, "Probably go drop something off the astronomy tower and see who notices" She smirked to herself remembering the last time she'd done that, with a conjured ball of water, and heard the little first year girls squeal. "Or maybe do some painting in more dorm" she shrugged, "Just the usual for me"
