Black satin grazed against the floor as Cass pranced around the floor with her partner. He was a handsome boy that had graduated from Hogwarts the year before, but he didn't even recognize Cass as he took her hand for a dance. Giggling, she was enjoying herself immensely, but as all things, it came to end. The young man bowed to her as she curtsied. An old tradition, but Uncle demanded that all the old pure-blood customs were adhered to while in public. Sighing, Cass walked to the refreshment table. She had become parched after all the dancing. She looked divine in the sweetheart top since she had filled out over the summer. The skirt was slim fitting with a small train in the back.
Taking a cup from an older house elf, Cass sipped it gratefully. Merry couples were dancing and giggling as the string quartet accompanied them. However, there was just as many happy faces as there were shifty gazes. People were still nervous even though Voldemort hadn't been spotted in months, and rightfully so. Harry was gone, and no one seemed to know where had gone. Cass had seen Ron Weasley and Neville Longbottom earlier, and had deined to talk to them before she lost sight of them because of some drunk wizards.
Sighing, Cass made her way to some of the round tables in the back of the room. Sitting down next to another girl about her age, she smiled warmly. " Do you mind the company? You seem about as lonely as me. My boyfriend has disappeared with some of his friends."

Caiest looked around the room everyone looked so happy being all dolled up and prancing around the room with their significant other. No one came to these things alone anymore like her sister had told her. No one that is except her. Caiest sighed and grabbed a glass of punch before maneuvering her way through the groups of people taking a break from dancing so she could sit relatively alone in the back of the room.
Caiest took a sip of her drink her green eyes scanning the room. Everyone looked their best tonight. Even she herself looked good she had gone above and beyond to make herself look good in hopes that someone else would come alone and ask her to dance at least once. She had pulled her red hair up into a complicated knot that her sister ended up having to charm to stay up. She had a pretty Forest green dress on and had even bothered to do her makeup. Something she didn't do regularly. "All dolled up and no where to go." She muttered to herself.
Caiest slammed the rest of the punch and started to get up she was through with this poor excuse for an outing when another girl about her age came up and sat down. Caiest smiled at the other girl glad to have some company. " No, I don't mind at all. The name is Caiest by the way."

"Caiest. Interesting name," she didn't say this in a bad way, but more admiring. "Cassandra. Cass for short if you like. I've never been too much on the whole formal stuck-upiness of my name. It sounds so, you know, uppity. Especially with the way my aunt says it. She overpronunciates the second 'a', and it sounds like Cassaaaandra." She giggled after her imitation of her stoic aunt. "I had gotten so used to hearing people call me Cass at school that when she said that it took me so off guard. I was like, who's this Cassaaaaandra?" A server flitted by the girls offering them beverages. Thanking the waiter for the sparkling cider, she turned to her new acquaitance. " So, are you here alone? I thought I was going to be here by myself until my boyfriend finally decided he wanted to go." Cass pointed to Liam across the room. "Isn't Liam so adorable? We've been together for almost two years now. Suprising since many high school relationships usually don't make it to the end of the week."
Turning the conversation to something else, Cass turned back to Caiest. " I can't actually tell if this party is a bore or not. It seems like the adults are having more fun than us. You know, hobnobbing and networking with each other. It seems like that people are in better spirits since...you know...." Cass trailed off. Anyone in the wizarding world would of course know what she was talking about. Voldemort hadn't been seen in months, and people seemed to becoming more of themselves. Ever since Cass had been cursed by a Death Eater two years ago, she had been especially careful. She didn't want to go through that ordeal again.
Of course, Cass had know idea how this girl would react if she just started to talk about Death Eaters and Voldemort. Hell, the mere mention of his name normally sent the most sane witch into a tizzy. Just the other day, she had mentioned Voldemort's name in a coffee shop in Hogsmeade. A nearby wizard jumped a foot into the air while swinging his wand in large arcs through the air. After a few moments of silence, Cass attempted to keep the conversation going. "So, I wonder if they are going to get this party rocking anytime soon? It will be midnight soon. I heard there was going to a fireworks display."
