Mists. The guardians of portals so grand that no mortal’s eye could see them. The cloaks of unicorns as they come to our realm to hear the calls of the purest of hearts, to guide the strongest of hearts and to protect the innocent hearts. The protectors of children will hear your call if you come with a clear mind.
Perhaps you will receive the help you seek in the form of a golden foal who gives you courage and strength to move one from the moment your eyes meet with him. Perhaps in the slender body of a silvery unicorn who can smooth your fears with a single look.
Yet there are times when you see the White Unicorn. He comes forward rarely and is seen scarcely even by his own kind. He is old, perhaps more ancient than the stars and the most powerful of them all. His body, mane and tail are the pure white of the stars while his horn is luminant like the moonbeams. He carries the wisdom of the ages so long past that there is none who can stand under his gaze as he slowly approaches you on his three legs. Maybe even the White Unicorn doesn’t remember the story of the loss of his first right leg anymore, maybe he has forgotten his loss, yet the damage to his body makes you want to weep.
There isn’t much he can’t do. He can call back life if there is the tiniest notion of it remaining in the tiniest cell of a body. He can dance over the stars and he can race the time itself. His kindness will not leave your soul untouched. Yet meeting the White Unicorn is a curse as much as it is a blessing.
After being touched by the White Unicorn you will know. You will understand when the weight of the failures of the sons and daughters of this realm settles on your shoulders. You will understand when the tears of the sons and daughters of this realm burn through you. You will understand when the sorrows of the sons and daughters of this realm rip your heart into shreads. Only then will you really understand.
I have seen Him. I have been touched by the White Unicorn. I have understood. And I pray that you, my daughters, never will. Yet when you see the mists, when you cry the tears you don’t show then come to me. Come to the ocean and there the waves will lap at your bare feet, the sun will dry away your tears, and the wind will smooth your hair. Come to the ocean and there I will take your tears for myself, for I understand...
Her great-great-grandmother was either a complete lunatic or the smartest woman ever to life, who had simply seen too much. Dana closed the diary quietly not smiling, even if she almost wanted to inwardly. She had read the diary before, understanding even through words the incredible will of Meredith’s grandmother. Yet the last inscription she had wrote in her diary was rather unorthodox. Especially so as the woman had thrown herself off from a cliff-edge into the sea only to be never seen again on the same day she wrote this. So Dana was curious as to what had been circling the woman’s head on the day she wrote this, yet the diary entrance didn’t really tell much. Or maybe if you decided to take it for the truth it told almost too much.
Dana placed the still open diary on the bed next to herself before pulling one of her knees thoughtfully up and placing her chin on it, while wrapping her arms around her updrawn leg. Or maybe she had been thinking too much lately. She had been left to her own as well after Dana had spoken with the aurors about what had happened and after madam P had let her out of the Hospital Wing feeling satisfied that the bullet wound on her left shoulder had fully healed, a small round scar only marking it’s location now. Dana had lost herself in a way after the Imperius being placed upon her. She had always trusted her logical mind and cold nerves to get her out of all kinds of trouble, yet she had bent so easily to the pressure of just one spell. It shook Dana’s world rather greatly yet there wasn’t anything to do about it now either.
Dana had spoken to Sapph. Rather briefly when she had apologized for her actions, but hadn’t waited around for Sapph’s responce. Dana would have to miss the friendship of Sapph, yet she would understand it if Sapph didn’t want to have anything to do with her now. Dana’s actions... or rather the lack of them might have been fatal, the strangling curse she had used might have been held up for longer and what then? Would Dana had turned into a murderer? Or would Sapph have lost all her intelligence and her bright mind? It was something Dana didn’t want to dwell long upon.
Dana’s eyes fell onto the open book as she read the last sentence. The Ocean? It sounded good just about now. Maybe she should take a break. Retreat to herself and the Ocean until her unshed tears would dry? She had finished all her tests already, as she didn’t have neither OWLs nor NEWTs this year so no one should miss her before it was already too late to locate her. Dana stood and turned to her trunk feeling almost too calm as she thought about fleeing Hogwarts, for a time at least. She felt almost numb as she dressed into a pair of black pants and pulled a white man’s shirt over her head before adding the wide belt and boots.
Not giving an other glance to her things left behind Dana rushed out the dormitory and through the common room not paying any attention to someone calling her name. What had been numbness before was now an urgent rush, as if Dana needed to get away and the faster the better. Dana didn’t even try to hide herself as she took the shortest route out of Hogwarts castle. Dana didn’t even take any notice as the wand she had been clutching between her fingers fell onto the floor only to snap into two a moment later under Dana’s foot. Dana just raced on letting the door smash closed behind her loudly. Her head held high Dana sprinted across the fields before Hogwarts towards the pathway leading towards Hogsmeade from where she could apparate.
She didn’t get too far until some sixth sense made her stop. Turning Dana looked back at the school her eyes travelling higher until she saw the two figures standing on one of the roof-tops. Cleo’s wand was lit and the light allowed Dana to recognize the oher girl’s flaming hair even at this distance. The personality of the other figure wasn’t hard to guess and for a moment Dana hesitated her eyes glued to Kris’s dark silhouette. For a moment Dana truly hesitated until Kris raised one of his arms. Maybe... maybe he understood what was going on inside her even better than she had originally thought? He would be here when Dana would need her and she didn’t doubt Kris would look over her trip. Her own guardian, even if a dark one. A light moved in an other window and the urgent need to escape overwhelmed Dana again as she turned and ran on.
((Not very good, I know. *frowns* But Dana as a character is hurting and it's disturbing me more than I'd care to admit so I just wanted to get it over with.))
