Melody wanted to learn how to dance. She was learning how to dance. She was spinning down a deserted corridor right now, adding in a few extra improvised steps as she went. The sound of her shoes tapping rhythmically against the floor echoed along the corridor but she didn't look ahead at the approaching wall. She was trying to forget everything in the world around her, and right now music felt awkward and strange. It wasn't helping, so she'd abandoned that for the present. She wasn't dancing to music played for her in her head; she was just making a rhythm for herself through her tapping feet. Her stamping feet. She couldn't feel her legs properly now, and she was dizzy from all the spinning. She been doing this for about an hour now and not yet met anybody. But that was what she'd wanted - to get away from them all.
Right now Melody wanted escape. Dana had actually taken the option of escape. She'd gone off to only God-knows-where. Fair enough, Melody supposed. She just wanted to go back to the way things had been. She knew that now when people looked at her they just thought of how much she'd been hurt, and that irked her. It did bother her - of course it bothered her. She couldn't help but remember what had happened. But she didn't want it to be bothering other people - it was for her to deal with. Melody stopped for a moment and sat down with her legs crossed to catch her breath. Each deep breath she took hurt, but then again Madam Pomfrey had told her to avoid strenuous exertion. She'd only specified that Melody couldn't sing for a while though. Two of Melody's ribs had been broken in the attack, but bones could be mended. Especially when you lived in the magical world. They'd be good as new soon enough.
Once she felt almost fine again, she sprung back up but this time kicked her shoes off and put them neatly at the side of the corridor. Even the rhythm was starting to annoy her now. She knew it was perfectly in time, she knew she even keeping a strong beat with how hard she tapped her foot each time... but it didn't sound right. It had started to make her think of other things - unless she just was bound to think about them anyway. Her feet now silenced, she spun round and round as fast as she could, gathering pace until the world around her was nothing but a blur. Even though her head spun she continued on, because this required concentration and concentration took her focus off things that weren't interesting and that she'd rather not think about anyway.
Unfortunately it meant that she didn't become aware of someone approaching until it was almost too late, and she was hurtling down the corridor towards them. Silently this time as well since she didn't have her shoes on. She hoped they'd been keeping an open eye as she brought herself to an abrupt halt, overbalancing as her head couldn't cope with the sudden change in motion. "STOP!" she yelled at the top of her lungs as she fell downwards. Madam Pomfrey had said not to put too much strain on that wrist for a while too actually. Well, she was fine. Whether the other person's ears would be was a different matter. Melody might have been told not to sing, but she was a singer and she knew how to project her voice. She hadn't held back. She didn't want to be stepped all over. Melody waited a moment until her head had stopped spinning quite as much and her breathing had slowed. It hurt a bit after having shouted so loudly but she scrambled up nevertheless and looked at the person she'd so very nearly bumped into.
"Ah'm awfully sorry," she apologised as she looked up. Melody was only 5'3'' and whoever it was was rather a lot taller than her. "Ah really 'ad no idea thoo were there 'til t'last moment... Ah suppose spinnin's not t'best way to stay alert o' t'rest o' t'world. 'S made me a wee bit dizzy actually," she remarked as she moved over to the side of the corridor and leant against the wall there, closing her eyes and letting the feeling subside before she inspected him again. Actually, he looked like someone she'd seen talking to Dana before and now she thought about it he was wearing dark glasses as well. "Ooh, thoo're Kris Ah take it?" she asked as soon as the thought popped completed into her head. "Ah'm Melody. Melody Bang-Bala." She smiled in her usual amiable way, shrugging off the fact she'd just noticed he was a Slytherin. Certainly Gryffindors didn't generally get on with Slytherins, but there was no way he could be as bad as those Death Eaters. She walked in front of him again as she compared their heights. Yes, well, he was older than her so it made sense, she supposed. "Aye, thoo're bigger'n me," she commented. "Wit' a head that size probably a fair sight cleverer 's well."
