Lacey waved to her owl as it hooted softly before flying away the letter to Lacey’s fther safely clutched between it’s claws. Blushing a bit at the bit pointless gesture as the owl obviously couldn’t see the motion. Changing a glance around Lacey was relieved to see that no one else was around to witness the action either. She had enough Slytherins picking on her on passing to care for giving them one more reason to mock her. Slytherins might have been that pureblooded and special they tried to appear in many ways but most of them still seemed to lack manners. Shivering a little at the cold win Lacey turned around once again and high-tailed back to Hogwarts castle and the very inviting warmth there.
Lacey made sure to clean her boots on the mats placed for that a couple of times. She tried to stay in the background for bigger part of the time and she would hate to be caught by Filch of his cat. Both seemed even more bitter than usual after someone had poisoned mrs.Norris. Even if Lacey didn’t understand what they were mad at the whole school. Doing something so cruel even if nobody cared much for the cat was most likely the handwork of some Slytherin. No one else wouldn’t have been that mean. At least Lacey hoped that no one else would have been that mean to while not defenseless but still not as capable as a human cat. Lacey managed to get most of the mud she had carried in with her boots from outside off but she noticed with a small grimace that there still a couple of wet footprints after her as she walked down the hallway. Lacey had to use her wand to make sure no footprints would be following her before she wandered off in the castle without any special destination on her mind.
Coming to a stop at a window on the 4th floor Lacey smiled as she watched towards the Greenhouses. Her head of house spent most of her time in those green rooms. Sometimes Lacey imagined professor Sprout herself looking like one of blooming green plant. For some reason mandrakes seemed to fit the professor even when Lacey could never decide what had brought out such kind of a thought about resemblance. Lacey climbed up to sit on the wide windowsill in the small alcove and placed the small backpack before her feet before digging out her pencils and a notebook. One of the many she had gotten for Christmas this year. Shifting a bit on her seat back and forth Lacey finally settled in a more or less comfortable position that let her move her left hand freely. Leaning the notebook on her updrawn and bent knees Lacey smiled and glancing towards the Greenhouses visible form the window started sketching her head of house in the environment she so seemed to love.

Sadie had just been wandering around the castle looking for something to do. She had already explored the grounds and the courtyard for what seemed like the millionth time. Sadie loved to spend her free time exploring and with every time she learned something new about the castle. Sadie was making her way through the floors of the castle having already explored the first three floors; she headed up to the fourth floor, and began to look around. The castle had all sorts of amazing pictures, statues, and such. Sadie enjoyed the time she spent exploring the castle.
Stopping at an extremely large window, Sadie looked out at the view. The window made the greenhouses that were showing from it, look like a portrait. The greenhouses looked astonishing and it made Sadie think of how perfectly Professor Sprout bit there. Sadie had thought from her very first herbology class that Professor Sprout seemed very much at home in the greenhouses.
Sadie pulled herself away from the beautiful view, and continued her walk down the corridor. Making her expedition through the fourth floor, Sadie passed a girl sitting in one of the enormous windows. The girl rather struck Sadie’s curiosity, making Sadie wonder what the girl was doing. Sadie knew that she had seen the girl before but had yet to formally meet her, there for Sadie knew that they were of the same house. The girl also looked older than Sadie, but that made no difference, most of Sadie’s friends were older than her. Walking over to the girl, Sadie hoped not to startle her. As she approached the girl, Sadie couldn’t help but to quietly ask what the girl was doing. “So deeply sorry to bother you, but might I ask what you are doing?” The second year hoped that she had not come off as stuck up for she was only asking to satisfy her own curiosity. Sadie had been raised as a muggle even though she was a half blood, and her time in the wizarding world made her curious of everything around her, for things that had once seemed perfectly normal or unexplainable now were different, or had meaning.

Plants were nice. Especially evergreen plants because those seemed so lively and strong all year long. What could be nicer then sitting under a green Christmas tree with a cup of butterbeer in your hands? And blooms. Wide fields filled thousands of small blooms and grand rose-bushes that held the so meaningful blooms? It was one of nature’s miracles and as such it was almost indescribable. It was a wonder it could even be caught onto paper with such simple tools as pencils. Maybe it was possible only as pencils were made out of wood themselves. Lacey smiled at the though colouring the lush leaves of a palm-tree as she had decided to draw the greenhouse from the inside. Maybe someone more familiar with gardening could point out all the numerous mistakes she was doing while she draw this. But Lacey didn’t draw to be scientifically accurate. She draw to bring enjoyment to the eye of the beholder.
Hearing gentle footsteps Lacey looked up curiously. A 2nd year Hufflepuff was approaching her. Lacey had never really spoken to her but you remembered faces sometimes. And she was certain she had seen this girl in the common room. Even seen her conversing with Nokomis and Ivy if she recalled correctly. Lacey offered a shy smile before turning her attention back to the notebook held on her knees. Adding a touch of yellow to the center of the leaves to make it look more alive Lacey didn’t see the girl approaching her. Looking up Lacey pushed back a bit of her hair from her face and offered a small smile. “I was just sdrawing. Ah sketching more likely. The greenhouses they. “ Lacey closed her eyes and took a deep breath the question having reached her in a surprise. People didn’t come to talk to her like that very often. “I was just drawing a little to amuse myself. And you aren’t bothering at all. Do you wish to take a seat? Or can I help you with something?” Lacey asked feeling a bit flustered. Why had she offered a seat? She didn’t know why the girl approached her. Maybe it was for some completely random reason or maybe she was lost. Lacey didn’t know her so maybe she was rushing off to meet some of her friends and would now feel bad about letting her down. So Lacey just felt that the wisest thing to do would be to shut up and let the girl get a word in edgeways.

Sadie's life had never been one that was interesting before her time at Hogwarts. She hadn't even known that her father was in reality a wizard before her last summer. She had occasionally thought herself normal, until the weird things starting happening. Through out her life, she could remember weird things that would happen, like an unlikely wish coming true or a bully getting their "just desserts", after teasing her or one of her friends, what few friends she had. She had also spent that part of her life being extremely curious, and now that she knew what caused the weirdness, she wanted to know more about it.
Sadie had hoped to spend her summers exploring and learning more about magic, and the magical world, but instead, after her parents suddenly died, she had been forced to spend her summer looking for an aunt that she was supposed to stay with. She spent the whole summer looking, with no avail. She had gotten to look through a couple of wizarding towns, but had not been able to satisfy her curiosity. Once she had returned to school, her curiosity had spiked again, this time causing her to bother anyone that she saw doing anything that looked remotely interesting. Such had happened in this case. Sketching was interesting, but why the person was doing it, even better. It was impossible for Sadie to not want to ask her a million questions, starting with why she was sketching, and then on to why she had chosen the greenhouses.
Sadie held in her questions, for even though she was only a second year, she didn't want to ask too many questions of the older students, and bother them too often.
Sadie listened as the girl explained what she was doing, and as the girl offered her a seat or assistance. " The greenhouses are lovely, and do make for a good sketching project." Sadie replied as she wandered if she had really bothered the girl and she was just too polite to say so.
Looking past the girl and out the window, Sadie decided to apologize again for bothering the girl," I really didn't mean to bother you. It's just that ever since I discovered that I was a witch, curiosity has gotten the best of me about every little thing, or detail." Sadie remembered the offering of a place to sit, "No thanks, I'll stand." She didn't want to bother the girl, if she hadn't already. But she wanted to get to know her. Sadie's friends were busy, and that made Sadie bide her time, and spend it exploring. But the exploring was getting boring without someone to share it with.

Lacey looked at the girl and smiled with sudden happiness at her words. She spoke about being curious about the magical world and Lacey could most certainly relate to that. She was a half-blood, her mother being a witch. But her parents had gotten a divorce when Lacey was 6 so all of her childhood had been spent in the muggle world with her father. In the beginning Hogwarts had been so mysterious and intriguing and just a little bit scary too. “I know what you mean. I spent my first and actually second year too in a constant state of half-awe half-fear. I’m a half-blood but until Hogwarts letter I lived in the muggle world.” Lacey stopped to breath grinning sheepishly only now noticing that she had started to babble. But she just hadn’t been able to help herself as the girl seemed to know exactly how it felt like to not know anything about the magical world before Hogwarts.
“I’m Lacey Langres. And I’m still amazed by at least half of the things I see daily in Hogwarts. I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t know all the things most other people, especially purebloods, seem to know ever since their birth.” Lacey smiled again turning a little and closing her notebook she had been drawing into as she held out her hand for Sadie. Somehow the younger girls words had opened up a dam inside Lacey making her feel at ease in her company now. “I like the greenhouses too. I have always liked plants and flowers. They are just so lively and pretty. A bit of a heaven in the cold winter. And plants are easier to draw than humans actually. Even if it might not completely explain why I decided to draw it today. It just felt right I think.”

Sadie nodded in agreement to Lacey’s understanding. She was glad to have met someone else who understood her curiosity. That meant that there were more witches and wizards like Sadie. More who were half blood, and until they had gotten their letters didn’t know anything about it. Sadie was bouncing inside with excitement and wonder, although she tried to remain calm on the outside. There were so many things that Sadie had yet to learn about the different parts of the wizarding world. The thought of this seemed to sadden Sadie a bit though. It made her once again wonder what would happen to her when school was over for the summer. Where would she go? Sadie forced these thoughts back out of her mind, those were things to be worried about later. Sadie smiled as the fact that Lacey had seemed to understand the way she felt, made Lacey a bit more talkative. Sadie didn’t mind though, she tended to babble herself, especially about something that really excited her. “I’m Sadie Rivers. I don’t honestly think I could ever learn as much as the purebloods. I just don’t understand why some of them want to make fun of us half- bloods. I mean as I understood it, there aren’t many pure wizarding families left.” This thought was something that had always confused Sadie, ever since her first year. “The greenhouses usually make me feel at home. Something I haven’t felt since before I cane here. My summer wasn’t the greatest. I left here to return home, only to find that my mum and dad had passed on from something that I still know nothing about. I understand how you feel about the completely.” Sadie realized that she once again might have begun to talk too much, and quickly cut off her own words, still staring out at the green houses. ((sorry it's so short and crappy. there's someone nagging in my ear ))

Lacey smiled and politely muttered “please to make your acquaintance” as Sadie introduced herself too. Manners were important after all even if Lacey was glad to see that Sadie wasn’t trying the conversation too formal. She would have hated that. She could handle a friendly discussion but anything more formal always made her feel awkward and clumsy and a bit foolish. “Learn as much as the purebloods? What do you mean? Purebloods have to learn in classes just the same way as we do, don’t they? I don’t think they know any more than we do. Maybe even less because most purebloods don’t know much about the muggle world and overall there are more muggles than there are wizards and witches. At least I think that. I’m not completely sure.”
Lacey smiled at Sadie as she placed her notebook to the side and started to gather the pencils together and placing them gently into the black velvet bag she had once sewn for her pencils. Good pencils were rare to come by and her father couldn’t afford to buy her new ones constantly so Lacey took care to preserve the colors she had. Lacey smiled a bit sadly at Sadie knowing fully well what she meant by Slytherins laughing at purebloods. “I know what you mean. I think Slytherins are meaner in younger classes. As if then they are trying to prove they are worth something by putting everyone around them down. When they get older they seem to pull back a little bit and they attack you a bit more rarely. But then again they know much more curses and are much more evil now than they are when they are younger. If that makes any sense. But I don’t really understand myself either why they constantly feel the need to pick on everyone.”
Lacey looked worriedly at Sadie as the younger girl spoke. Her mother had just left her when Lacey was just a child. But she still had her father, who Lacey loved with all of her heart. Loosing both parents at once must have been simply awful! “I’m sorry.” Lacey said simply hoping she could help Sadie in any way. They weren’t the very best friends, but she could still help. “Will you be alright? At summer I mean.”

Sadie wondered what would be the best way to explain what she meant about the purebloods already knowing a bit more than the others there at the school. It was really simple in Sadie’s mind but she had never really tried to put it into words. “Umm.. Well I guess what I said about the purebloods knowing much more than we do comes from the way I feel. I mean they have grown up watching their parents do magic, and listening to the incantations and more than likely watching the wand movements. I just usually feel like they already know so much more than we do.” Sadie felt like she would start babbling if she didn’t end her words there. She didn’t want to babble too much.
Sadie was glad that someone understood what she meant about the Slytherins acting the way they did. Sadie had been taunted and teased this year, but had not been attacked by any of them yet. She hoped that wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
Sadie couldn’t help but to be a little sad still from thinking of her parents. She still wasn’t ready to go home yet, but she could make herself if there were no other options. Sadie smiled when Lacey said that she was sorry to hear of her loss, Sadie hadn’t had many people show her sympathy on the subject, and it was nice to have someone too finally. “I’m not honestly sure about this summer yet. I could return to my home, but I just don’t think I’m ready to yet. I could continue to hunt for my father’s relatives, but I’m not sure I want to do that either. From what I read in his journal, they weren’t the nicest people.” Sadie started to sniffle as she spoke, she could feel the knot in her throat beginning to swell, a fair warning sign that she was about to start crying. She felt a tear begin to roll down her cheek, and gently reached up to wipe it away.

Lacey smiled gently at Sadie. It was good to know she wasn’t the only one who felt foolish sometimes. And it wasn’t even that she was dumb or that she didn’t have any time to study. She wasn’t too smart, but she could learn. Sometimes she just couldn’t seem to make herself learn properly when she could just draw and daydream. Lacey smiled and nodded agreeing with Sadie. “True. I have never thought of it that way. I think purebloods may have some advantages that way. But at the same time there are always exceptions. By the time we graduate I don’t think there are any differences. And Hermione Granger. She’s very smart and her parents are muggles too.” Lacey bit her lip for a moment before smiling shyly at Sadie after her referral to one of the Hogwarts celebrities. Lacey felt her heart going out to Sadie. Leaving her pencils and the notepad on the window sill Lacey jumped to her feet and wrapped an arm around the shoulders of the younger girl. Sometimes actions were better than words. You could reach out and share a moment with the other and at times it could even be more comforting than compassionate words. Lacey wasn’t too good with putting words into a line either. She lived and expressed herself through her paintings and drawings. “You can think and decide what’s the best course to do. You can stay with friends and you can even come to stay with me and my father for a while. We don’t have much to offer, but we would love to help if we only can. I’m sure there are someone who can help. There is no need to rush yourself and return to places that bring only painful memories.” Lacey fumbled trying to find something that would comfort the younger girl. Lacey pulled back and tried to send Sadie a bright smile. “Things will work out somehow. I’m sure of that.” ((I'm sorry for the late reply. But here it is now. )

Sadie was glad that she wasn’t the only one who felt the way she did. The purebloods did have a bit of an advantage, but then Sadie had to agree with Lacey. Hermione was a muggle born that knew just as much, and sometimes more than any pureblood. Sadie hated to admit it, but she had a tendency to think that Hermione’s brain was part of what kept her in so much trouble. It was probably just Sadie’s foolish ways of thinking that caused that thought, but it had been a thought since Sadie’s first year. “You’re absolutely right. She’s brilliant. There’s no way I could ever be that smart. Although I wouldn’t mind it though.” Sadie said smiling back at Lacey.
Sadie was a bit shocked at Lacey’s sudden hug, but it was a comforting one. Comfort that was a word that hadn’t ran through Sadie’s mind very often. Sadie couldn’t help but to shed a tear as Lacey offered for her to come stay with her and her family. It was more comforting for Sadie to know that she had friends that cared. “Ivy has offered for me to come stay with her as well. I’m just not sure what I might do yet. I do know I’m not ready to go home. But I don’t want to impose on any of my friends. It would be nice to know I had family somewhere that wasn’t so horrible.” Sadie didn’t want to turn down her friends’ offers, but she knew that she would feel as if she were imposing on them, and that in itself was a horrible thought to her, something she just couldn’t bring herself to do.
((sorry so crappy and short. Sadie’s not got much inspiration, and I’m trying to get caught up))
