Piper hadn’t been riding for ages- since the Christmas holidays, and it was starting to get at her. Most of her friends didn’t ride much but Piper loved to ride. She missed the thrill and movement so badly that she couldn’t keep still at all. Her lovely horses- Whisper and Michagan, weren’t being ridden! Well of course they were in truth- Piper had agreed to let the local riding school loan her friendly, fast horses while she went to Hogwarts, which was just ‘boarding school’ to the muggles. With a soft sigh Piper left the Common Room, where she had been sitting. The last class of the day had just passed and Piper had found herself in the Common Room fairly quickly which was unlike her- she usually dawdled in the corridors, maybe talking to the portraits and ghosts. So, being early after History of Magic, Piper had arrived when the homely room was fairly empty. But after her thought-moans about her horse she began to notice the popular place of study for young Gryffindors filling up.
“We’ll just slip out, Cay, and head to an empty classroom. We can take that toy I made for you, yeah?” Piper spoke to her cuddly ginger kitten in a crooning voice. The little, mischievous creature glanced up at her mistress before giving a little chirrup, and sneezing. The act looked so comical that Piper laughed softly, as Cay continued to sneeze, tiny little noises which made several other students around move away slowly. Piper got the hint and lifted Cay into her arms lovingly, dropping some books into her small shoulder bag. Random books- she hadn’t even seen what they were when she dropped them in, only knew they were abstract things on Transfiguration and Potions. Piper’s two favourite subjects, ironically. After dropping those into her bag with one hand, and struggling to keep a squirming Cay under control with her other, Piper snuck out of the portrait hole.
“Ahh an ickle third year ready to squirm!” An almost shrill, male voice echoed over Piper’s head. Glancing around her, she was just about quick enough to pull a book from her bag over her head, shielding her dark blonde hair from an odd collection of equally odd-smelling pellets. They hit her book with a loud ‘SPLAT’, each of them disappearing immediately. But what followed their disappearance was a horrible, rancid aroma. It was of old horse manure, cheap perfume and about twenty other disgusting smelly objects. “Iiick Peeves!” Piper yelped as she ducked from one of his larger pellets. It hit the wall beside her and she blew the wafting scent away from her with ‘Transfiguration: Tricks and Tips’, occasionally aiming a swipe at Peeves who constantly swooped down beside her.
It was quite a while until she managed to escape the meddlesome ghost’s clutches, covered in odd luminous pink gunge and smelling of the pellets. She was now in a random corridor- on the third floor? She wasn’t sure. Peeves had followed her everywhere, chucking horrible things her way. She had tried to threaten him with the Bloody Baron, but obviously her words had no impact. Finally though she hid behind a suit of armour which- amazingly- fooled him. But in the process she had lost Cay, and was now searching the halls for the ginger kitten, alert for Peeves as she went.
