"Achoo!" Maryn sneezed loudly walking down an empty corridor. She hated being sick with a passion. It was like being immobile but still having to get up. She wasn't so horribly ill that she must visit the Hospital Wing. No, she would never do that. Being a bit ill during classes was better than being cooped up in an empty room that smelled like medicine and cleanliness from the many spells needed to make it sanitary. Maryn hated hospitals. It didn't matter what kind of hospitals either. When Tommy busted his chin open and had to get stitches, Maryn almost gaged from the waiting area. She hated everything about that place. No, Maryn could deal with being a bit sick. It couldn't be so bad, right? She would just sneeze a few times and walk around with a tissue under her nose a lot. But, it wasn't so bad. Maryn kept thinking those things to herself quietly. "Achoo!" She yelped loudly. After, she paused, caught her breath, sneezed again, and kept walking. It was a pretty day outside and a silly little cold wouldn't ruin it. maryn wouldn't let something so simple ruin her good time. So, she simply decided to ignore it.
Maryn walked down the corridor to her second class of the day. She didn't love Defense Against the Dark Arts, but it wasn't so bad. Besides, one day she might need to know how to protect herself like demonstrated in class. Now, Maryn's sneezing had taken a momentary silence and she couldn't help but let a little smile show from the corner of her lips. Maryn held her books close just wanting the class to be over so she could attend lunch and eat something that would make her feel a bit warmer inside. "Achoo!" Maryn escaped from her relapse. I hate this. She thought to herself. However, Maryn wanted to act as chipper as possible for the time being. She silently slipped past some students and entered the classroom. She just kept thinking to herself that the class would be over soon.
Finally. Maryn cheered quietly as the bell rang. Freedom from a class that made her woozy never felt so sweet. Just the thought of hurting someone or having to know how to defend herself made her spine shiver. She was just a muggle born. Maryn never thought a simple London born muggle born witch would have to defend herself against dark magic. But, the truth was she did. At sometime in their lives, every wizard and witch would have to do something against dark magic. Or at least that's how they were basically taught. They had to know they would face the dark magic to be motivated to use it. Anyways, Maryn smiled passing the teacher calmly. She spilled past the door feeling liberate and happy it was lunch time. Maryn walked silently to the Great Hall eager to have a bowl of soup and a warm drink. Maryn was just about to enter the Great Hall when she heard noises coming from the kitchens aside from the Great Hall. Being the curious person she was, Maryn followed the sounds calmly. Upon reaching it, her eyes met with a house elf. Maryn's eyes went wide as she had never really seen one in person. The Hogwarts house elves were rarely seen. Maryn watched it sort of talk quietly with another elf. She didn't dare say a word not wanting to alarm them. Suddenly, Maryn froze as she heard footsteps behind her. She turned silently hoping it wasn't a teacher.

Myn watched the clock eagerly, only five more seconds to go. Four. Three. Two. One. She jumped up as the bell rang, grabbing her bag and running down the corridor. Rather unusual behaviour for a Ravenclaw she knew but she despised History of Magic. She knew that she could easily pass the exam when it came, she adored history but only when it was interesting. She stopped at the sound of a cat meowing and spun around. "Sleet," she greeted her kitten, picking her up and putting her in her pocket."You shouldn't be here," she scolded the now silent kitten half-heartedly. Myn walked down the corridor to the Great Hall, mentally starting her homework. Her head shot up at the noise coming from a side corridor, only taking a second to think about going to investigating before slipping around the corner silently. Much to her surprise the noise was coming from a pair of house elves. Myn suddenly noticed another girl watching the elves, she looked older and Myn knew that this girl wasn't in Ravenclaw. She walked up to the girl, wondering if she knew why the elves were arguing. Myn tugged at her hair nervously before speaking, a habit that she had never managed to break. "Hello," she smiled shyly, putting a hand in her pocket to pet Sleet comfortingly. Her eyebrow rose at the look of fear on the other girls face then nodded in understanding. "You expected a teacher?"

Maryn turned calmly and a smile appeared on her face when she noticed that it wasn't a teacher. She took a deep breath calming down slightly. She wouldn't really be in any trouble as she didn't technically do anything wrong, but Maryn was a bit paranoid like that. Maryn shrugged a bit looking at the younger girl before her. Maryn didn't know anything about this girl except that she wasn't in Gryffindor. No, Maryn knew most of her house mates and this girl wasn't one of them. "Frankly, yes." Maryn managed to grin wider. She then turned hearing the house elves again. "Students!" One called. With that, all they had to do was snap and were instantly back in the kitchens. Maryn looked around curiously and couldn't help but smile at the mysterious creatures. Maryn turned back around towards the younger student. "That was odd." She joked a bit. "Oh, yea. I'm Maryn Lively, Gryffindor third year." She introduced herself. Maryn wasn't so bad with introductions as she had been in months past. Maryn looked at the girl calmly hoping she was just as social.
Maryn turned back a few times hoping the creatures would reappear, but she finally gave up and turned back to the girl. "I find house elves fascinating." She explained calmly. "I might seem weird, but being a muggle born things fascinate me easily." She laughed a bit to herself. It was very true and sort of annoying. Some people found muggleborns annoying like that, but Maryn couldn't help it. So what if she was muggleborn? That;s whose he was. Maryn could never trade in her family and she wouldn't for the world. All that pureblood nonsense just made her angry and bitter. It was all so stupid and senseless. Maryn just wished people could all just get along, but of course that would never happen. She looked at the girl waiting for her to say something.

Myn allowed a smile to form on her face at the other girls fascination with the house elves, she understood it as she had been the same way as a child but didn't expect a third year to still be intrigued by them. "Myn Katrenya. Ravenclaw first year" she introduced herself, her right hand automatically going to her pocket to feel her kitten.
Myn almost jumped as Sleet poked her head out to look at Maryn and smiled sheepishly at the white kitten. "This is Sleet. She insists on meeting me after every class though I don't know how she knows where my classes are." Her gaze settled on the spot previously occupied by the two elves and decided to investigate later, perhaps one of the older students would know.
Myn looked at Maryn thoughtfully, she was older and could possibly know where the elves went, although she seemed as confused by the argument as Myn was. She shook her head slightly, deciding to wait until she knew more about the girl and the likelihood of her telling a teacher about Myn's investigation.
Sleet jumped down from her place in Myn's arms and meowed at Maryn, temporarily distracting Myn from her internal debate and making her smile. "She likes you," she explained her kittens actions.

Maryn smiled politely at Myn. Ravenclaw first year, huh? Maryn had strong memories of her first year at Hogwarts. She of course was just a shy girl that didn't know how to talk to people if her life depended on it. It was strange, Maryn had changed so much since then. She was now the girl that could never be quiet and had several friends. Life was an incredible journey for Maryn. Back then, she just wanted to shrivel into the tapestry. That little girl seemed long gone. Sure, she was still easily amused at things as a first year would be, but so what? Maryn didn't grow up like a pureblood at all. She was just a little muggleborn who took in wizard life like a baby. Maryn knew all this. She knew that's just what people thought of her. But, what did Maryn think of herself? These thoughts haunted her each night making her think more than she ever wanted to. Maryn often thought she didn't fit in. It was just one of those things that popped into her mind. Yep, she still felt like an intriguing first year eager to learn and understand life. Was Myn the way Maryn was back then? Well, Maryn now wanted to find out.
"Achoo!" She screeched again. "Sorry, I have a cold." She said knowing her face must look all clammy. "It's not contagious though." She added not wanting Myn to think other wise. She looked at the little kitten Myn introduced. "Aww, she's so cute." Maryn examining Sleet. Sleet? It really was a good name for this kitten. Maryn admired it kindly. "I wish I had a kitten." She shrugged. "But, my brother Tommy is allergic. Of course, it would only go home for the holidays, but it would still have to go home none the less." She said thinking of Tommy. "I have an owl, though. Morgen." She explained. Maryn listened to Myn's comment on how Sleep knew where her classes were. "Well, then. Your a smart kitten aren't you." Maryn joked asking the kitten. She felt very childish at the moment, but did she really care? Not a bit. Maryn watched as the kitten jumped from Myn. "May I?" She asked pointing to the kitten just asking if she could hold it.
Maryn waited a moment for Myn's reaction before becoming a bit curious. "So, what brings you to this part of the castle? Did the house elves intrigue you too?" She asked calmly. Maryn didn't love small talk, but was okay at it unlike some. She'd much rather just have a long detailed conversation, but those seemed to be rare lately. She looked at Myn patiently waiting for a response.

Myn smiled, appreciating the compliments about her kitten. Honestly, she thought wryly, I love that kitten more than my family most of the time. She just shrugged at Maryn assuring her that the cold wasn't contagious, not really caring either way.
"Of course," she replied to her question about picking Sleet up. A small smile appeared on her face, reflecting on her inability to control her kitten's actions. She watched Sleet keenly, curious as to how she would react to a stranger holding her. Much to her surprise, the kitten settled down, purring and kneading her claws. Myn lifted an eyebrow in surprise, trusting her kitten's judgment of the girls character.
"I was on my way to the Great Hall, I guess I got distracted and took a wrong turn or something because the next time I look up I'm here. I heard the elves talking and decided to investigate. Then I saw you and this conversation happened." She tilted her head curiously, examining Maryn closely. "Do you know what they were arguing about?"
(Sorry its short, I didn't have much inspiration. The next one should be longer.)

Maryn grinned brightly hearing Myn's comment. She reached down slowly and picked up the little kitten. She was just so cute and felt soft in Maryn's arms. The kitten didn't struggle or anything and Maryn smiled at its calmness. Maryn couldn't help but tell herself over and over that she wanted a kitten. Oh course, Morgen was a great pet. She was just so calm and always got the letter deliveries right. Maryn was grateful for that, but she still wanted a lovable kitten she could hold. But, of course that would just be another mammal Maryn would have to take care of. Maryn already had two younger brothers and a younger sister to look after when her parents were working, which was a lot. Maryn had enough responsibilities. A kitten would just add to the stress of being the oldest. The kitten sat calmly in her hands. She was silent except for the small purr that came from her. Maryn laughed to herself for no reason until she looked back at Myn calmly.
Maryn nodded. "Yep, that can happen to you in this crazy castle we call home." She said meaning that it was very easy to get lost even though if that wasn't your intention. "Well, I'm certainly glad you did." She said politely trying to say she was glad they had they chance to meet each other. Maryn talked casually just like she always did. Talking came so naturally for her. It was sorry of comical really. Talking was like a hobby for her. She could just talk and talk for hours none stop, but of course that would just annoy people. She listened to Myn's comment and thought about it for a second. "Hmm, well now that I think back.." She said still pondering it. Maryn really did have a terribly memory. "Actually, I think it had to do with finding something." Maryn put her thumb on her head thinking. "Umm, forks!" She yelled sort of laughing along with it. "Yep, it was something about finding forks for dinner. Now, that I think about it, that sounds hilarious." She said giggling to herself. "Well, of course I must have an off sense of humor." She said calming herself just a bit. "So, house elves are interesting creatures, don't you think." Maryn stood waiting for a response.

Myn lifted an eyebrow with amusement. "They were arguing about forks?" Her body shook with repressed laughter. "That is the strangest reason for arguing that I have ever heard. Considering I once heard my parents arguing over which tie my Dad should wear, baby blue or light blue..."
She slid down the wall to sit on the floor, shifting around to get comfortable before speaking again. "Yeah, house elves can be interesting. I lived in the muggle world because my Mum is a muggle but Dad is a wizard. Sometimes me and Dad would visit his wizard friends and I'd be fascinated by the house elves. The way they just flit around without making a noise is incredible. I remember Dad telling me that one could be working right next to me and I wouldn't even notice."
Myn took a toy mouse out of her bag and threw it along the corridor when Sleet jumped out of Maryn's arms. Laughing quietly at her kitten sliding across the floor and falling over before jumping back up and attacking the mouse, she turned to look up at Maryn, a friendly smile on her face. "How did you find the elves here, then?"

Maryn laughed. "Yep, it is an odd conversation, but I guess it works for them." She said referring to the house elves. Maryn so wished she could have one. It would be just so interesting, but of course she couldn't. Maryn came from a muggle family. The only other wizard was the five year old, Tommy. Of course, he didn't have enough powers to do anything with them. He could just become angry and break a few things without meaning to. However, Maryn knew he would one day become a great wizard. She knew Tommy wouldn't let her down. Maryn stared at Myn blankly still laughing. They were crazy creatures but oh so interesting. Maryn watched as Myn sat on the floor. Maryn herself remained standing liking her current position. Myn seemed like an interesting person herself. Maren wished she could know as much about the wizard world as anyone else. Of course, she was old enough to know stuff for herself. But, Maryn often wished she was a pure blood, she wanted to be just like everyone else.
Maryn smiled nicely listening to Myn. She sighed keeping her ears alert to hear anything else that may interest her. "I wished I knew anything about them. All I know is stuff I learned here, at Hogwarts. I mean being a muggle born is great I guess. I make good grades in muggle studies." She laughed knowing she didn't have to work at all in that class. It was all too easy and she knew all the information. It was actually one of her favorite classes, actually. Who didn't like an easy class? "That's so amazing." She said referring to what Myn said about the house elves. It really was fascinating to Maryn. She watched as Sleet jumped out of her arms and played with the little toy mouse Myn had gotten out. It really was cute. Maryn laughed a bit at the adorable kitten. "Oh, I was just walking here and found them." Maryn said. She was becoming more bored by the second. "Hey, you want to explore a bit?" She asked nicely referring to the castle. Maryn waited for Myn to respond.

Myn tilted her head so she could look up at the other girl without having to twist her neck. "Thats the best thing about being a muggleborn, I guess. I think I got the best of both worlds really. Not having to stay in either of the worlds but getting to live in both." She transferred her attention to the small kitten when Sleet started to meow, looking down to see her at Myn's feet. She ran her hand over the kitten's back absently, smiling at the purr her actions received.
"Exploring could be fun." Myn agreed, an impish smile crossing her face. The hat may have placed her in Ravenclaw because she loved books and learning but Myn also enjoyed mischief and creating havoc. Exploring the castle might give her an idea of where most students gathered when they weren't in their common rooms, the student lounge or outside. Perfect for wreaking havoc in those spaces or to simply avoid the more crowded areas if she ever felt the need to be alone. Going with an older student, who would undoubtedly hold more knowledge of the castle than herself was a bonus. Even more of a bonus as Maryn seemed rather interesting.
Myn picked up her bag and stood up. Crossing the corridor to pick up the toy mouse and picking up Sleet, she smiled at Maryn, inviting her to take the lead. "You know the castle better than myself. Lead the way." She grinned as the kitten clawed her way up Myn's body to rest on her bag before falling in. "Oops." She smiled sheepishly. "Guess I forgot to zip it up. Sorry Sleet." Myn fished her kitten out of the bag and held her close to appease Sleet, knowing her temperamental her kitten could be. She fastened the bag and rested Sleet on it, scratching the kitten's ears before turning to follow Maryn.
