So, so cold ((Patsy))

‘Why is it always so cold!’ Brianna hissed to her Puffskein with a scowl. She hated the cold weather which seemed to be everywhere- the snow flurries: cold. Her lips after an hour outside: cold. Everything was so cold! Due to the annoying weather and the chill which got to Brianna so much, she left her dormitory that (cold) Saturday afternoon swathed in layers of clothing. Closest to her skin she wore a dark green jumper which had sleeves to her elbows, and a long V-necked collar. Over this she wore a black sweater which was simply that, a black sweater, and over that she wore her long white coat. She loved the cover- it was purely white, with a fur collar and cuffs, and it was lined with fur for the utmost warmth. It finished by her knees and kept her whole body insulated just as she wanted it. Around her legs she wore a pair of skinny black jeans, and some brown knee boots lined with fur. As she left her room she checked her reflection in the floor-length mirror. Her eyes were rimmed with liner and she wore the slightest coat of mascara and eye shadow. As she drew away from the mirror with a small smile, her Puffskein jumper into her arms, her fluffy pink fur tickling Brianna’s nose. Blowing the pelt away and trotting down the stairs as she waved to her friends in the Common Room, Brianna headed towards the warmest place she knew, other than the Common Room, which was too full for her liking.

The library was almost empty as she wandered into it, her arms shielding Alico from the librarian. The Puffskein knew to keep quiet and hid her cute pink head beneath Brianna’s white-swathed arms. Heading towards her favourite table, beside the window, Brianna sat down in a chair with her back to the librarian. She inspected the shelves beside her table. What to read? With a giggle she tugged out a bright purple, shiny book from the shelf. As she read the cover with a smile, the book flashed blue, green, pink, yellow- every colour you could think of. Across the cover in huge, bold letters read ‘The History and Files of Puffskeins’, with a border of stars which shot across the page. Turning to the first page with one hand and stroking Alico with the other, Brianna began to read the book with wide eyes.

For Brianna, the book was amazing. She loved to hear about the existance of her little pet, about how they came into the magical world and about their evolution. She laughed as her dark eyes flicked over,

'Puffskein's have a tendancy to pick bogies from one's nostril, by using their amazingly long tongues to dig in a nose....

Brianna laughed out loud, remembering when Alico did the exact thing to her sister, Lana. She was just about to continue when Alico's already big eyes grew wide, and her pink fur stood up as she noticed an intruder behind Brianna.

Patsy woke up and walked over to her wardrobe. She slammed it open and looked carefully at the clothes she had. She pulled out a pair of thick jeans and a large, furry light pink jumper and threw of them over her underwear. She then pulled the scarf her father had got her around her neck and smiled weakly at the mirror. She was warm but she knew as soon as she walked out into the rest of the castle, she would freeze again like she did the day before.

Patsy fell silent as she walked across the freezing, abandoned corridors. She was so angry at her teacher who had made her go outside and collect an ingredient for next week’s class in such weather. The air was damp and cold and Patsy’s skin was dry and sore because of the lack of heat. She tried to smile but her face was too tight and she allowed her expression to be a simple, plain.

The only sounds were of her feet as they went down the grand staircases to the entrance hall. The paintings which surrounded her were complaining quietly about the weather and with a roll of her eyes, she pushed open the doors to the Hogwarts Grounds.

The place was almost completely frozen, the lake was nearly ice and she could have easily started to walk on it. She trees were empty, not one leaf to be seen. Patsy looked down in sorrow; she hated the winter and preferred to be the warm, beautiful air of the spring or summer.

Patsy glanced around, trying to see the bush with the plant she was so regrettably looking for. She finally spotted it and ran over quickly and snatched it. She placed it carefully in a plastic bag and slipped it into her school bag and ran back into the castle.

The library, she thought as she wondered where she would find a place to find the rest of the ingredients. She trotted up the steps and quickly made her way to the library.

The Library was the warmest place in the castle as nearly the whole school had tried to fit it self inside, making excuses that they had to do homework and extra revision. The heat of the place heat her cheeks welcomingly and with a final smile she spotted another Ravenclaw fifth year.
“Hi, Brianna is it? Yeah, well, do you mind if I sit with you?”

“Ali, calm down!” Brianna told her Puffskein with a confused look. Then she looked behind her, catching sight of one of her roommates. “Oh, hey Patsy! Sure you can sit, just ignore Ali, she’s being a little odd today. What’s up?” Brianna spoke cheerfully, patting the chair beside her with one hand, dropping the book onto the table. As she did so Alico sniffed Patsy’s arm, then hid behind Brianna with a whimper. Giggling, the pink creatures owner apologised as she scratched Alico’s furry head.

“Aww, she’s shy! I’m not sure why, as she’s met you before. Been near a cat today? She hates them, maybe she can smell the scent of one on you.” As if to agree, Alico blew a huge, wet raspberry at Patsy, making Brianna burst out with laughter. Several people nearby looked up and moved away, and Brianna noticed the room was filling quickly. Scooping Alico into her lap as she chortled happily, Brianna looked up at Patsy with an amused smile. She had met the girl a few times before, as they were roommates, but they weren't exactly best-friend status yet. But Brianna knew she liked the girl already- and she had fashion sense, Brianna thought as she complimented her fellow Ravenclaw's scarf with a small smile. She had a similar shrug with the same material, she commented absent-mindedly.
