Katrina sat there flicking through the library's copy of Herbology for 1st years. She flicked through the pages, not noticing a word written on the page, she wanted to be outside but Professor Sprout had asked her to tutor someone at Herbology. She slammed the book shut and looked around, no signs of Emma just a bunch of seven years revising for tests or just reading by themselves.
Katrina leaned back in her chair and waited for someone to wake her up. She imagined of her country home in Scotland where the whole place was disguised by trees and bushes and no one could be seen for miles. She remembered her parents and brothers who would now be all sitting around eating lunch. Her younger brother was near to being eleven and couldn't wait to go to Hogwarts and her older brother who was spending most of his free weekends with his parents.
Her mid drifted away so far into Scotland and her family she wasn't sure if she was in the library or actually there. She woke up in a start as a boy shouted to his friend "Wait up!" She was so startles by the sound that she nearly fell of her chair, she stared around but still no Emma. "Where is she?" she whispered looking at her watch.

With a bright, joyful grin, Emma stepped lightly out of the Ravenclaw common room. This day was going to be good- she could tell. Her back was feeling fine from the fall off of Spice, when she was out with Maryn, and her brother had replied to her letter happily, though she would be screaming with delight if he was actually here at Hogwarts. She had woken early this morning, and had spent a long time choosing her eye makup choice. In the end, she had gone with misty purple shades which went with the Amber necklace around her neck. It had been given to her by her aunt, now deceased, and was one of her most prized necklaces. Skillfully she had sett her hair into large ringlets with a spell her mother had taught her, then Emma had slid a silver clip behind her ear. Then she walked towards the school library. Her mother had signed her up for one of Professor Sprout's tutoring classes, though Emma knew the professor would not be teaching herself. It was going to be some Griffindor thrid year, and Emma hoped she would make a good impression.
Emma looked about the library. Some boy was shouting to a friend 'wait up', and Emma quickly side-stepped as he ran past her. Noticing a Griffindor around third year in the corner, Emma went towards her. "Katrina Becket? I'm Emma Blake."

Katrina woke up from her trance and noticed Emma, she was taller than she had expected and more adult looking. She had originally imagined a small little girl with bunches but was completely surprised to be so grown-up. She only looked at her for a second before the girl introduced herself. Katrina shook her hand and pointed to the seat next to her which was empty.
Katrina looked again at the book and as Emma sat down, she finally remembered what she was doing. "Right, now Professor Sprout says you not doing to well on what do with simple practices like feeding a Italian Hentongue. That's okay, but neither of us what you falling behind so..." she started and moved back down to her bag which was under the desk and received her piece of parchment, "we are just going to get you up to speed and I think you'll be okay!" she said comfortably.
Professor Sprout had previously written things they were going to do over her sessions. None of it look confusing or hard just simple stuff Emma had not quite grasped. "So, just get out your stuff and we'll be ready," she whispered as Madame Pince passed. She didn't want to look down on Emma because nothing annoyed Katrina more than people older than her looking down their noses at her, so she didn't do the same to Emma.

Before she bagan talking, Emma had imagined Katrina to be like a professor- a bit harsh, and always acting a bit too like they knew everything. But Katrina didn't seem that way. As she talked, Emma nodded, wincing a little as the obvious fact she wasn't doin so well came into the speech. However, Emma did agree, so sat down in the nearest chair. Reaching into her beige bag, Emma drew out her wand, some deep blue Ink, her bright pink quill and a sheet of parchment paper. Looking up again, Emma smiled at Katrina.
"Ready. What's first on the list?" For as much as Emma wanted to be good at Herbology, she also wanted to be out in that shining sun with her friends. Stroking one pretty amber bead on her neck, she waited for Katrina's reply.

Katrina smiled widely at Emma and looked down at the list. In very cursive writing was the words: simple spells to kill weeds Katrina giggled as she had to squint her eyes to read it, "Right, I think it's just some simple killing spells," she said, reaching for her wand and tapping it against her head. She had always done this when she had not used her wand in a long while.
"Right, now repeat this," she said, turning and looking at Emma, "without a wand, no weeds here!" she laughed, pretending to look around her. She said the spell clearly twice and before Emma could repeat she added, "now remember...you must imagine a weed in front of you to get it right and say it very clearly as many spells sound the same"
Katrina stopped speaking and waited for Emma.

Watching carefully, Emma once again winced a little as the simple, easy spell was spoken. Why was she no good at it? "...some simple Killing spells." Katrina said. Emma froze. her face went pale, the blood rushed from her head. She had recently heard those exact same words. Horrible memories came rushing toawrds her, her uncle, saying them with cold, cold malice. "K-K-Killing spells? But..." Emma jumped as the worst memory of all shot into her mind. Her sentence was broken, and her eyes looked lifeless and plain. The blue was pale in her eyes, and her hands were shaking uncontrollably by her side. Little did Katrina know the effect those words had.
A short, loud laugh from a nearby table broke like a dagger into her thoughts, and Emma almost fell from her chair with shock. As she looked up again, her eyes were almost back to normal, her hands almost under control again. Reaching for her wand, she prepared for the killing weed spell. "So i just say, without a wand, no weeds here? That's...easy. Very easy. To-to kill....some weeds."

Katrina looked carefully at Emma, she was worried that Emma was scared of something. Katrina had noticed how the word "killing" had affected her. Katrina had never liked the idea of killing or anything like that but the word never affected her like that. It looked like Emma was frightened so Katrina rested a hand on her her shoulder. When she looked controlled herself, she said, "So I just say, without a wand, no weeds here? That's...easy. Very easy. To-to kill....some weeds."
Katrina didn't know what to say, she looked at her again. Maybe she should come to this later. Maybe after she's had a discussion with her about what she was required to do and learn. "Maybe we should come back to this later, I don't feel like doing that today," Katrina lied, "Let's just look at the next thing on the list."
Katrina looked down at the list and underneath the killing weeds spell was something she expected Ema would be good at. "Here, take out your book and we're going to learn about some of the most common magic plant creatures," she said, putting down her wand.

Emma was glad for the help from Katrina, the friendly hand on her shoulder. Although Emma knew that she was only changing the subject because of Emma's reaction, she still felt better. Smiling a little, she took out her book from her bag, and turned to the contents. "Magic plant creatures- great. What first?" Emma looked up at Katrina. The contents was very confusing, but Emma knew that it would turn out simpler than ever.

Katrina was pleased the Emma had not been offending, cruel or selfish like some first years she knew. Emma seemed very clever and she was wondering how a girl like her came to falling back in Herbology.
Katrina read through her passage to Emma, she read it again and then turned the page with her thumb. She listed many plant creatures which were most common in England. She listed them in categories 'A' to 'F'.
She had enjoyed tutoring Emma but was still getting very tired and had made an excuse to rest a little when setting Emma something to write down.

Emma had just finished writing down the properties for Aconine, and she closed her book with a small pat. Then she looked at Katrina. She was lounging on the chair, her head in her arms. Smiling, Emma talked to her- "Hey, Katrina, i've finished. How about we pack up now? I can see you're tired! Or do you want to sit by the lake or something?" Emma looked at her friend, waiting for her answer.

Katrina suddenly woke up to the news that Emma had finished. She was delighted and was exceptionally proud of her and accepted the invitation to go sit down by the lake. She gathered her things and slipped her wand into a safe place in her bag. She yawned and slowly got out of her chair which made a large, squeaking sound. She sighed and left the library.
((Emma, I'll start a post by the lake for us.))
