Alastor made a round around Hogsmeade with an old co-worker and a new kid who had just recently rose to the status of being an auror. He looked like a kid who should barely be out of Hogwarts and Alastor didn’t have much faith in his abilities either. The Ministry had called in practically everyone they could and Alastor had been called back to duty too. Today he would have to go and meet Dumbledore after his rounds so he wasn’t in much of an hurry. Alastor wanted to time his arrival so that students would have already retreated to their common rooms.
Finally the change for the guard reached the 3 aurors who turned and made their way away. “I’ll see you later, Mad-Eye,”Darien said with a nod while apparating away while the new kid seemed very anxious. Alastor growled his denial to his invite to have a quick drink in the Three Broomsticks and took a swig of his trusted hip-bottle. At least he always knew that no one could temper with the liquid in there.
Pulling his bit tattered cloak tighter around his body Alastor started to make his way towards Hogwarts castle. He hadn’t wanted to take one of the thestral pulled carriages there. You were never in control of such a carriage. Alastor never wanted to be out of control again. His wooden leg didn’t make the walk to Hogwarts exactly easy. But half an hour later Alastor was already stomping up the stairs in Hogwarts.
His wooden leg made a dull thud on the hard floor with every step he took while his magical eye was whirling around in it’s socket. Alastor could see a prefect making his rounds a floor above her in the left hallway but he didn’t seem to be taking his duty very properly. Wasn’t any concern of Alastors as he just continued walking up the stairs.
Finally reaching the fourth floor Alastor stared to walk down the hallway to take a short-cut to Dumbledore’s office. Peeves the Poltergeist was cackling madly on the same floor but Alastor didn’t pay any attention to him either after following his moves for a few moments with his magical eye. Taking a left after reaching an intersection of the hallways Alastor’s magical eye immediately whirled towards the statue of a crooked witch. More precisely to the figures hiding behind it. The electric-blue eyes did one circle assuring Alastor that the coast was clear of enemies. The boys couldn’t be any older than first or second years. Alastor stopped a good couple of feet away from the statue with the magical eye concentrating hard on the boys behind the statue.
“Get out of there, boys,” Alastor growled out the order sharply with his hand trained to stay over his wand. You never could be too careful.
