Post by Professor Amaryllis Hardy on Jun 14, 2006 19:29:58 GMT
June was here, and with it exams and warm weather. Only a few wisps of strata streaked across the sky, high up in the atmosphere and the blue sky. The sun was shining and it was warm, but that was the time of year for you. The school wasn't far off exams now, but they weren't quite there yet and so Amaryllis had a Muggle Studies class to teach right now. Teaching was still something she enjoyed. Not for the first time, she thought over how glad she was she'd taken a job here. And she was happy she'd decided to start teaching classes as well, even though it had increased her workload. The return of You-Know-Who was more evident here than other places, perhaps - Amaryllis' face darkened as she thought over the recent attacks in which a Ravenclaw student had been killed and many people hurt. Professors weren't beyond being scared either - although Amaryllis would rarely show that - and it did make her worried about Rob too. She looked over her notes for the lesson for a moment and then wandered over to some large wooden boxes which were very deep and had high sides so nothing was sticking over the top. Out of these she picked a number of small box-shaped items out and examined each carefully before replacing them in the box one by one. Students were arriving by now but she could leave them to take their seats while she checked over these things one last time. Amaryllis glanced at the clock for a moment. It was the first class after lunch but she did hope students would be punctual. She still placed emphasis on punctuality - she had a rather hectic schedule what with dealing with duels outside class time as well and so her time mattered to her. It was good to be able to relax in an armchair in the staff room for a while with a good cup of coffee. She didn't have too many duels this afternoon after she'd finished teaching, so maybe she'd be able to do that today. Amaryllis reflected on this with a feeling of well-being at the thought before moving onto another identical wooden box and inspecting the equipment in there as she waited for the entirety of the class to arrive. ((Please remember this is a class, not a chance to catch up on the latest gossip! So please keep chatter to a minimum. )

Kia bounced into her dorm eagerly, almost tripping over a pile of books by the door and landing face first on her bed. Undeterred from her goal, Kia rolled off the bed with a quiet thump and grabbed her school bag. Kia rubbed her elbow and glowered at the floor menacingly before deciding that the pile of books were to blame and patting the floor reassuringly. No, she couldn't blame the poor, innocent floor for hurting her when it had really been those evil, evil books. Kia jumped up easily, carefully avoiding knocking into her bed, and slung her bag over her shoulder. Lunch had just ended and Kia had instantly raced back to her dorm, mentally kicking herself for forgetting her bag. It simply meant more work for now she had to rush back down to the Muggle Studies classroom and hope that she didn't arrive late. With that in mind, Kia merely stepped past the books with a glare and a silent promise to get her revenge later. No books could trip her up and get away with it.
The corridors were filled with their usual after-lunch rush to get to classes and Kia waited behind a rather slow group of first years, impatiently shifting her weight from one foot to the other and glancing at her watch nervously. Gryffindor really couldn't afford to lose anymore points and so Kia didn't want to arrive late to Muggle Studies. An opening in the crushed corridor appeared and Kia slipped through gratefully, ignoring the annoyed glances from irritated students who had obviously planned to do the same thing as Kia. Hah, Kia smiled innocently. They should have been quicker. She was just teaching them to sharpen their reflexes, that's all. Luckily, it seemed that Kia was the first to arrive as she bounced into the classroom with a cheerful smile and happy greeting. "Hey, Professor. Enjoying the day?" A seat at the back of the classroom just seemed to beckon to Kia and she slipped into the chair, leaning backward carelessly and pulling out her sketchbook. Class obviously hadn't started yet as no one had arrived and Kia wasn't willing to just sit around and do nothing. What a waste of time! No, even a simple sketch would help to refine her skill and fill up the time until everyone else arrived.

Sadie had decided to eat her lunch outside before her next class. It gave her time to free her mind from all the wizarding stuff she had been learning that day, and to concentrate on her next lesson. Muggle Studies had been Sadie's best subject yet. She guessed that being raised as a muggle had something to do with her being so good in that subject. Sadie quickly finished her lunch and decided to head to class. She knew that there would be a crowd in the corridors, so she hoped that she could beat the complete rush. Sadie walked inside, just to discover that the crowds had already began to form in the halls. She knew that getting through the crowds wouldn't be too difficult, considering that she was smaller than most of the students that were causing the crowd at the moment.
Sadie walked quickly, making her way through all of the other students, and saying hi to a few that she knew here and there. She was making sure not to push into anyone, or shove anyone around. She didn't need any trouble from an older student just because she was trying to get to class on time. Looking ahead of the crowd, she saw the classroom door that she was looking for. Sadie quickly made her way to the proper side of the hall so that she could casually slip out of the crowd, and into the Muggle Studies classroom.
Sadie turned into Muggle Studies without any trouble. She noticed that there was already another student there. She waved quickly to the older Gryffindor, and took her seat near the front of the class. Seeing that Professor Hardy was already there, Sadie decided to greet the teacher. "Good Day, Professor." She said softly, as she made sure that she had everything she might need for class out of her bag.

Cathy gathered her books together without thoroughly examining them and tossed them into her bag. They had been strewn all over the floor from last nights' frustrations. Cathy knew it wasn't practical but she had been out-of-it the whole morning, nearly dozing off in classes. She had forgotten the books needed for the specific classes she was in so she had ended up sharing with her neighbor, not that the Professor's were pleased. She had been frantic last night trying to finish up essays from different classes and had stayed up most of the night, scribbling down random things in an attempt to get to bed faster. She wasn't sure how she would win lots of House Points or get good grades that way but at least she got a few more hours of sleep in. Lunch had revived Cathy, almost to her full potential, but the set of bags under her eyes was a reminder that she wasn't quite there yet.
After stacking all the books hap-hazardously in her bag, Cathy was ready to go off to her first afternoon class - Muggle Studies. This class wasn't really a needed one, she merely went to it for enjoyment. She knew most of the muggle ways of life seeing as she had been brought up being aware of the muggle world, unlike most purebloods. Every once in a while she was taken aback by some strange instrument but otherwise she had a pretty well-off knowledge of muggles. As she made her way through the halls which were only partially crowded as class was to start soon, Cathy found that she wasn't in the mood for talking. The people she knew only got a small nod and a smile from her. She felt a migraine coming on and didn't want to provoke it by anything; even catching a talk with some friends.
Cathy reached the Muggle Studies door and pushed it inward, allowing herself entry. It was hardly full yet so Cathy got a wide selection of seating. Giving the Professor a "good afternoon," as she passed her desk, she paused in moving forward to sit as a flicker of indecision ran through her. She didn't think it smart to sit in the front or even toward the middle in her current state, so instead she weaved her way through the desks - giving the two students already there a small smile - and settled for the one three seats away from the back right corner. With a sigh, she let her pack fall to the ground and she slid into her seat. It felt good to sit here with taciturn silence all around. It eased her head and she felt her eyelids droop... Blinking furiously, Cathy forced herself to move, getting out all the supplies needed for class.

Lunch had been scrumptious as usual. Sita didn't have a huge appetite - she was only fairly small after all so she didn't need too much to keep her going. But she was a growing girl so she'd still eaten plenty today! Samosas and cucumber salad just as starters... then a small main course and some chocolate cake for dessert because it looked just too delicious. Scrumptious, in fact. Sita smiled as she stood up from the Hufflepuff table in the Great Hall and slung her bag over her shoulder as she set off to her next lesson. What was it again? Where were her legs taking her? They'd managed to learn where to go out of habit at different times of the week by now, in accordance with the timetable she'd been following for so long, but Sita did want to check. After all, moving stairs were tricky and she might end up having to take a diversion!
Sita stopped for a moment after she'd managed to get out of the doors to the Great Hall (she didn't want to stop right there; that wouldn't be very considerate towards the other people trying to get to lessons at the same time!), thinking over what she'd had that morning to work out what it was she had this afternoon. Oh yes, it was Muggle Studies next, followed by... well, she'd come to that when necessary. Sita set off with extra purpose in her step and being the rather speedy and slight person she was, soon slipped through larger groups to get to the classroom on time. She was even a little early, even. "Hello, Professor!" Sita said to Professor Hardy cheerily as she entered, not adding anything else since it looked like she was busy checking something. Instead she headed over to a Hufflepuff in the year above her. She wasn't entirely sure of the name... something beginning with 'S' she thought. But she wasn't going to commit any further than that. Oh well. 'S' was a nice letter! The first letter of her name and all swirly and curvy. "Don't mind me sitting here, do you?" she asked as she set her bag down on the desk next to where the other Hufflepuff was sitting. "I'm Sita, first year. Think you're in the year above me or something?" she asked as she crossed her fingers and rummaged in her bag. Oh good! She had brought the right books. She'd packed her bag at the start of lunch and then promptly forgotten about it, but it was nice to know she'd done a good job. Sita uncrossed her fingers again and pulled the books out, setting them on the table in front of her neatly.

Dresden looked at her watch as she lay on her bed. She had 5 minutes to get to Muggle Studies. Jumping off the bed in a rush, she grabbed her book bag from the floor and ran out of the room.
Dresden hadn't been hungry, and had decided to have a rest over eating food.
At the bottom of the stairs that led into the Ravenclaw common room, she stumbled and had to slow down long enough to catch her footing. Running out of the common room and out into one of the hallways, she spun to miss another person who had been in her path. "Sorry!", she called out behind her.Weaving through all the people, she managed to make it to Muggle Studies in record time.
When Dresden told her family she was taking Muggle Studies, they had put up a fuss. They didn't think she needed to learn about things like batteries and toasters, and just normal everyday items. To be honest, Dresden only signed up for it because she knew it would be easy for her. How many people who grew up in a non-magical household didn't know what a telephone was? No one. That's who.
Walking into the class, she nodded to Professor Hardy. "Professor," she said as a greeting.
Dresden looked around, her dreads swinging as she did. She realized she didn't know anyone here. She looked at her watch. There was still time for someone she knew to turn up.
Dresden went to the far corner, which was unoccupied, and sat by herself. She watched the professor look through boxes. She wondered what was in them.

Hay Lin rushed through lunch. It was, more or less, her first day with a lesson and she didn't want to be late. After a plate of some mashed potatoes, peas, corn and salmon (a taste of each to be in each bite-yum!), she ran to the Muggle Studies Classroom. "Sorry I’m late-“ she began. But upon looking at the near empty classroom, she shut herself up, embarrassed. Thankfully, the only one who had noticed her was the teacher, who gave her a friendly smile. She huddled into a seat in the front row. From her farthest right post there, she could see all the boards etc in the front of the room. She pulled out her radio pen and fit the ear pieces into her ears. Switching it on, she heard- Nothing. Muttering, Hay Lin shoved it back into her bag. No electronics worked within Hogwarts. Instead, she pulled out a journal and copied another girl, sketching. Midway through her picture, her pen ran out of ink. Hay Lin Leaned back and tossed her head back, groaning in annoyance. Making sure no one was looking, she pulled out her wand and cast the simple nonverbal refill spell. Her plastic pen showed the ink barrel refill, and hay Lin smiled, but it melted almost as quickly. The teacher was glaring at her, and Hay Lin groaned again. She had been discovered using magic.

Genevieve had eaten lunch alone as usual. She liked it that way though. When she ate by herself she didn't have to worry about what she had to say and not to offend anyone. Every now and then she would take a break from her reading, she always read during lunch, and would listen to different discussions going on around her. Today though they were boring, nothing exciting was really happening. Everyone was talking about attacks still and how attacks might happen again. Genevieve felt safe at Hogwarts and though she was a muggle born didn't feel threatened by the scare of a new attack.
Genevieve at a bit but wasn't to hungry. Today had been her sugar craving day and she had sucked up three sugar quills earlier. Sugar quills were one of the few Wizarding things she loved. They just tasted so good and she was addicted to them.
She finished digging at her meal just in time for it was time to go to her favorite class, Muggle Studies. She loved that class because she actually knew, for the most part, what the teacher was talking about. It was an easy class and Genevieve knew most of the answers that Professor Hardy asked.
Genevieve took one last swig of her apple juice and grabbed her stuff. She headed up to the class thinking about what they would talk about today. She wondered if it was going to be government or politics or just plain muggle artifacts. Those were her favorite, it was hilarious seeing the looks the purebloods gave to small things such a CD players and gameboys. Genevieve entered the class and immediately saw Dresden and her lovely dreadlocks. She hated that Dresden had decided to sit in the far corner, whereas Genevieve liked to sit in the front row in this class. Oh well, I'd rather sit next to Dresden.
"Hello Professor. Hello Dresden ." She said as she walked by the professor and over to Dresden. She took a seat next to her new friend and watched as the professor unpacked mysterious boxes. Genevieve was extremely curious as to what was hidden behind the different boxes. She couldn't wait for class to start.

Post by Maryn Livley on Jun 16, 2006 3:03:44 GMT
Maryn jerked from her gaze out the window as her muggle watch went of. She calmly reached for the sparkly aqua object and made the alarm go away. It was time for muggle studies class. Maryn had opted to skip lunch. She hadn't been much for being in public lately. She didn't like being around people anymore. Maryn had been in her dorm constantly for the past week when she heard Nathan, her brother could be ill. But, when she found out he had leukemia, Maryn completely lost it. Her mind left that happy place and just plummeted downward. Maryn tried to be happy again, she really did, but it didn't work. No, not at all. Maryn sat up from the window sill and adjusted her Gryffindor robes. It was game time. Or class time. Maryn's face had grown paler lately. She hadn't spent too much time in the outdoors that she loved so dearly. She had been eating, of course she had. Maryn wasn't the not eating because she was upset kind of person. Maryn was upset, her brother was dying. She didn't know if he would make it or not. Who wouldn't be upset in this situation? But, Maryn was too smart to let it get beyond crying. This would change her, it already had, but Maryn wouldn't let it take over her life completely. Then she would have nothing.
Maryn calmly took each step down the large stair cases. She had to take special attention to when they moved. She didn't want to zone out and end up walking in thin air. So, Maryn tried her best to keep her head up. With each step, Maryn wanted to go back to her dorm more and more. It was Muggle Studies Class. Of course, it wasn't one that bothered her much. Maryn was a muggleborn after all. Her mom, dad, brother, and sister were all muggles. Everyone is Maryn's family was except for Maryn and Tommy, the five year old. Maryn knew everything about muggles since she was raised as one. But, the class was easy and Maryn didn't mind Professor Hardy at all. Besides, she liked a class that that she excelled at naturally. But, even a muggleborn had to study. Maryn neared the classroom. She wondered how many of her friends were there. She hadn't spoken to them recently. Well, hopefully she had some there.
Maryn entered the class room. She first walked to the professor. "Hello Professor." She said shortly. Maryn promptly made her way to the back of the room a bit away from an older Gryffindor she didn't know. (Cathy) Maryn said down as she looked over the classroom. She saw Kiana, a fellow Gryffindor third year and Dresden, a Ravenclaw she met the same day she talked to Stryder. Where is he? Maryn thought. Oh, well. She wasn't really in the talking mood anyways. Maryn then reached in her bag and took out the necessary items she might need for class.

"I need that." Wendi said reaching over Jamison to grab her book for the next class. It was lunch time and her older brother had managed to sit beside her at the Hufflepuff table. Jami had been around a lot lately, but Wendi didn't complain. She liked her brother's company. She knew he was still worried she would get hurt again. Wendi was herself, but she was getting over everything. She still didn't think of Hogwarts as safe, but she was getting better altogether. Wendi took the book and stuffed it into her pink bag next to her. She continued ti eat a piece of a ham sand-which she was munching on while Jamison was eating a plum. Wendi finished and looked over at Jamison. He was eying her as always. For some younger students, they would be annoyed, but Wendi didn't mind. She was glad Jamison cared so much. She needed him and he needed her. Wendi knew it was time for class so she began to whip the left over crumbs off her school sweater. She glanced up at Jamison. "Ready?" She asked. "For Muggle Studies? Maybe." He joked as he stood up and began to leave the Great Hall. Wendi smiled getting up and following him.
Muggle Studies was one of the only classes Wendi had with Jamison. He was four years higher than her of course. She liked when they had the chance to share a class. Wendi soon found a pace about Jamison's and he quickened his to catch up to her. "So, do you need a broom or are you going fast fast enough?" Jamison asked referring to her fast pace. "It just so happens I like this class." She said giving a smiley grin. Of course, Jamison knew that. Wendi had a little obsession of muggles. She just thought they were so interesting. A class where she could learn about them was heaven for her. Jamison continued to catch up to his speedy sister. But, suddenly Wendi had a random thought. She stopped and turned towards him. Jamison wasn't paying attention and ran right in to her nearly knocking her down. "Sorry, you okay?" He asked helping her stand straight. "Yea." She said calmly. "I was wondering, is Athens such a good idea?" She said suddenly. For a year, Jamison and Wendi had planed on visiting Greece, but now she wasn't quite sure. "Is it safe?" She asked. The attack had spooked her, Wendi had changed a bit because of it. "You will be safe with me, promise." He said thinking and nodding. Wendi smiled hoping he was right. "Thankies." She joked walking on to class.
Wendi smiled while walking into the Muggle Studies classroom. She liked what she knew of the professor. Wendi wasn't afraid of Professor Hardy like Professor Snape. "Howdy Professor." Wendi joked after she walked towards the teacher. Wendi then searched the class for a seat. She recognized Sita, a fellow first year Hufflepuff with an older Huffle she was pretty sure named Sadie. However, Wendi wasn't sure if May or Myn would be joining the class and really wanted to sit near one of them if they were. So, she took a seat near Sadie and Sita, but not too close. She flashed them a smile and then glanced at the door waiting for someone to arrive. After saying hello to the professor, Jamison opted to sit in the middle of class alone for the moment. However, if a friend or a completely stranger came up to him, he wouldn't have minded. He then waited for class to begin.

Stryder Stalk was having a boring day. His classes so far had been the dullest ever. Everyone was getting excited because the end of the year was around the corner but to Stryder's surprise no one had talked about it yet. Stryder had had a lot going on for him so he hadn't really thought about it but today he did. He knew that summer time meant one thing: rodeos. It was practically one of the only muggle things he liked doing. He just couldn't get enough of it. He was even considering thinking that he liked rodeos more than Quidditch. Maybe that knock to the head had actually caused some permanent damage.
During lunch Stryder sat at his Gryffindor table with some new people. Lately he had been meeting a lot of under classmen and people from other houses. Stryder didn't mind but he didn't want to get in trouble with anymore Slytherins. During lunch he talked to some girl about what the better European Quidditch team was. Stryder was sure that it was the Luxemburg Bigonville Bombers, but the girl was sticking to her Polish Grodzisk Goblins. After going through Quidditch history, Stryder hadn't realized that Lunch was over and it was time for class to start.
Stryder was never one for organization but luckily his cousin had given him a planner for Christmas. He opened it and it immediately showed him that his next class was Muggle Studies with Professor Amaryllis Hardy. Stryder muttered under his breathe and shut the planner. He hated Muggle Studies. At least it's not as bad as Herbology. Stryder actually knew stuff in this class because of the MacMasters but muggles were so boring. He didn't care about anything muggle related unless it had to do with rodeos.
Stryder grabbed his stuff and followed some fellow third years to the class. They were probably going to talk about something boring and Stryder would have to try his best to keep attention. I might even attempt to take good notes today, though it's doubtful.Whenever Stryder tried taking notes all that ended up happening on the paper was the date, subject of the day, and a picture of a random object in the room. By the end of the year Stryder was pretty sure that he would be able to draw by memory all of his classrooms.
He entered the classroom to find it pretty full. He looked around the classroom seeing his professor unpack some boxes and students attempting to greet her. Stryder's attention instead lingered over to see who he would sit with. He saw Kiana, Dresden, the hott older Gryffindor he wanted to meet, Genevieve and finally Maryn. He was about to go over towards the back where the hott older Gryffindor was but he realized that he had no chance with her and instead should see how Maryn was.
Stryder found it hard talking to Maryn. He didn't know her well enough to find out his feelings and reactions towards what she said. He knew that she was in pain though but Stryder didn't know what to do about it. He knew though that if she needed a shoulder to cry on he was there for her. This would be a good opportunity to show that I still want to make sure she's alright. Plus she's sitting near the hott girl. Stryder said as he walked by nodding at Dresden and Genevieve and went near Maryn. He placed his bag over the chair so he was sitting next to Maryn and two seats away from the older girl.
"Maryn, You doing any better?"
Stryder said quietly and quickly as he sat down and pulled out his notebook to attempt to take notes. He knew that class was going to start soon and he didn't want any house points gone. They were already far behind as it was.

Dana pulled on a tight black sweater before dropping herself to sit on the edge of her bed. Bowing over Dana fished out a pair of black heeled shoes and pulled them on once again, closing the three clips on the side on the shoe on both shoes. Leaning sideways Dana picked up her bronze-coloured hair-brush from her bed-side table and with a few quick strokes of the brush got rid of the tangles in her hair, before leaving her hair to fall freely over her shoulders and upper back. The black sheen of hair looked nice enough being loose as well, so Dana didn’t bother herself with elaborate hair-dos most of the time. She didn’t like dealing with her hair – even washing her hair was an obligation – so Dana left fancy clips and hairdos for fancy parties she attended to from time to time. Placing the hair-brush back Dana took hold of the mug on the bedside table draining the last drops of the remaining coffee in it, grimacing only a little as the drink had already had time to get cold thereby loosing most of it’s good taste. But Dana had already had her coffee dose during lunch so she it wasn’t a big problem either. Leaving the mug on her bedside table knowing that the house-elves would clear it away before she returned to her dormitory Dana picked up her book-bag. Slipping the strap of it on her shoulder Dana lifted it’s cover and glanced into it skimming the books, papers, two quills and the inkwell in it quickly to make sure she had everything she would need during the afternoon classes. Closing her bag again Dana threw her Hogwarts cloak on it before striding out of the room, down the stairs and out of the common room as well.
She had muggle studies coming up as first thing after class which usually was a rather enjoyable class. And then Transfiguration which didn’t promise to be nearly as pleasant. Transfiguration wasn’t her forte after all but Dana still did well enough in the class. She was a Ravenclaw after all! And Dana didn’t really mind studying terribly much – she rather enjoyed reading books and the things she read stuck with her. She would hand in the last two bits of her make-up work for the missed time in Transfiguration today as well so hopefully McGonagall would be in a lenient mood today. But Muggle Studies and professor Hardy first. Pushing open the correct classroom door Dana let her eyes sweep over the classroom taking in the people already there. A couple of so small girls that they had to be first years, a bunch of third years – some were even from Ravenclaw as Dana noticed with content – and only one older girl who seemed to be about fifth year perhaps? She couldn’t have been a 6th year as she wasn’t in the rest of Dana’s classes and she didn’t look any younger. A Gryffindor evidently so Dana simply let her eyes move on to the professor.
Sending a smile to Hardy – Dana liked the older woman, besides her family owed her a lot – Dana nodded to her deeply: “Good day, professor Hardy.” Her heels clicking on the floor Dana made her way over to her regular seat in muggle studies – the first bench on the rightmost line that was near the windows. Seating herself comfortably on one of the chairs she pulled out from under the table Dana pulled out her muggle studies book, a pencil and a notebook before leaning back in her chair and calmly waiting for the beginning of class while gazing absent-mindedly out of the window.

“Noooooo!” Cleo squealed as she tried to get away from Kris’s arms laughing loudly as Kris continued tickling her mercilessly., “No bad!” Cleo laughed out loud as she made one more desperate effort to get away from Kris finally succeeding. Laughing at her husband Cleo backed away in the hallway keeping a wary eye on Kris: “You’re ebil! Tickling me isn’t nice! And now you messed up my hair! How am I supposed to go to class this way?” Kris smirked and took a step forward his arms spread: “You can always skip with me.” Cleo let out an involuntary gasp of laughter even as she jumped back: “No, I’ll see you in the evening to go to the concert in Hogsmeade. Love you.” Cleo blew a kiss towards Kris, even if he wouldn’t see it before grabbing her things and moving down the hallway with as long steps as her black skirt that reached her mid-thighs allowed while the red dragon charmed on the dress turned it’s head, let out a burst of fire on the fabric.
Throwing the muggle studies classroom open Cleo strode in confidently with a small smirk-smile to the professor: “Good day, professor Hardy.” Not even bothering to look around the classroom Cleo strode just as confidently to the front desk where Dana was already sitting and slid into the seat next to her. For a moment they were silent before Cleo placed her cheek on the table and peered at Dana puppishly. “No, I’m still mad and not talking to you,” Dana replied without even looking at Cleo who pouted a little as she raised her head. “How come you forgave Kris much quicker than me? It’s not fair! Aren’t girls supposed to stick together?” Cleo asked staring at Dana who fianlly turned her head and smirked her. “True, but Kris has way too much blackmail material over me for me to be mad at him,” Dana responded even as her eye-bows flew upwards as the prefect gazed at Cleo’s hair, “I don’t have to ask where you have been, do I?”
Cleo scowled and used Kris’s tactics, poking Cleo in the rib-cage making a burst of laughter escape the prefects lips only to have Dana reach for her wand and a moment later Cleo was the one who was doubled over in laughter again as Dana had hit her with the laughter charm. “Sorry, sorry,” Cleo gasped out in between laughter and after a few more moments felt the spell being lifted from her. The two girls grinned at each other before settling down in their chairs comfortable once again while Cleo turned her head towards Dana, “Use a glamour charm on my hair, will you? You’re better at them than I am.” “So you just use me as your regular hair-dressed and wedding reception hostess?” Dana asked with an arch of her eye-brow but picked up her wand once again anyway and pointed it to Cleo’s forehead before casting two charms that made Cleo’s hair fall neatly down once again as the two continued bickering a little as they waited for the class to begin.

Throwing back the blankets of her bed Mel jumped energetically out of bed and landed on the ground with a soft thump. Giggling slightly as a couple of the girls mumbled something about being up she ran over to her trunk and pulled out her school uniform. Smiling slightly she rushed to the bathroom and shut the door. She hated getting up after everybody because she didn't like waiting to go take a shower or get ready. This was one of the reasons Mel was so happy she wouldn't have to wait thirty minutes to get in the bathroom.
Giggling slightly she slipped out of her over sized white t-shirt and jumped into the shower turning the water on as hot as it would go and let the scolding hot water run over her skin. Mel loved hot showers they relaxed her and put her in an overly happy mood usually. Stepping out of the shower clean, relaxed, and in a very good mood she dried her body off with the towel and slowly but on her uniform. The hot water had made her slightly drowsy and it didn't help that it was early in the morning. Melissa was NOT a morning person. She was usually the last one up out of her roommates and always had to wait for the bathroom. That is why she was so happy that she was actually up early today.
Walking over to the sink she pulled out her wand and pointed it at her hair while muttering the drying spell. After successfully drying her hair she pulled out a brush and rain it threw her long brown hair framed her face nicely. Throwing her hair brush into her bag she then pulled out her toothbrush and toothpaste. Scrubbing at her already white teeth Mel noticed her old hair clip that her aunt had sent her on the counter. After she was done rinsing her mouth out she picked the pretty light purple clip and smiled a small but happy smile. Her aunt had sent her this clip in her second year at Hogworts and she had been so happy because she had been obsessed with clips and she always wanted a purple one. Purple was her favorite color.
Setting it down a little regretfully Mel turned back towards the sink and applied a tad bit of brown eyeliner and a little bit of some pale pink lip-gloss. Looking at her appearance once more to make sure that everything was to her satisfaction she smiled. She forgot about how much she looked like her mom. She had the same hair smile and nose as her mom. Everyone said she did but she had forgotten about how much she did which is pretty weird because she always saw herself in the mirror and she didn't do anything different from what she usually does.
Walking out of the bathroom with the clip in her hand she smiled at a few of the girls that and set the clip on her bed. Grabbing her school bag she slipped on her shoes and walked down the dormitory steps and into the common room. Sitting in one of her favorite comfy arm chairs she looked around and saw there were quite a few people. Wouldn't most people be eating breakfast right now? Mel thought to her. Looking into the fire she heard a noise next to her looking over to her side she saw Derrick approach. "What's up stranger?" Mel asked him nicely. "Oh, nothing new just kind of tired and I really don't want to go to class!" he responded. "I don't think anyone does" Mel answered laughing slightly.
Looking at the clock she said to Derrick "Well better get going or I'll be late for class, catch you later ok?" Without waiting for an answer she picked up her bag and walked out of the common room and into one of the many halls of Hogworts. Waving at a few people she new she headed down the hall heading into the class Mel looked around hoping to see someone she new. Heading over to the girl she recognized as Dresden. They had never formally met but she had seen her around.
Pulling out a quill and a piece of parchment to take notes on she smiled at the girl and said quietly "Hi I'm Melissa but everyone calls me Mel and your Dresden right?"

Andrew took another drink of his pumpkin juice as he talked with his neighbors. He was really excited for Muggle Studies. After all, he could sleep through the class and still be able to ace the class. I mean, he was muggle born. Who else would know the stuff better than him? He smiled as the thought drifted into his conscious mind. He was definitely going to be trying to answer a lot of questions. Gryffindor was in serious need of House points. It seemed that they had just gotten worse and worse as the year went by. Especially since his own house mates had decided that dueling outside of the classroom was more important than getting and keeping house points. Drew shook his head at the thought. He wasn't like that at all. Sure he liked to walk on the wild side of life, but that didn't mean losing house points. He wanted Gryffindor to win the house cup sometime while he was present, unfortunately it seemed that that was not possible. Looking down at his magical watch, yeah, you know the watches that work at Hogwarts, the one his parents had bought in when they found out that muggle devices didn't work there, and realized he needed to get to class.
Drew quickly finished off his pumpkin juice and took one last bite of the sandwich he had made himself before standing up and grabbing his school bag. He waved goodbye to the others at the table who were older than him and had a break this hour. He brushed off the crumbs from the front of his robes before taking off up the stairs for muggle studies. He knew it was going to be a great class, because not many Slytherins showed their faces in that class. It was like a death sentence in a way. A Slytherin going to muggle studies meant one of two things, either they were really far behind in getting credits or they didn't follow the path of Voldemort. Either way it was easily a dangerous class. At least Drew thought so when he almost got hexed his first year for laughing at a Slytherin who was in the class. The professor was the only thing that saved him then. But he had learned a valuable lesson, don't tease older Slytherins that could essentially squash you like a bug with magic.
Drew chuckled to himself as he turned into the classroom and stopped. He surveyed the room quickly and checked off the list of familiar faces in his head. He smiled as he walked quickly over to wear Stryder was sitting and Maryn whom was also in his house and year. He sat down behind Stryder and poked him in the back. "Dude this class is going to be a cinch," Drew whispered with a laugh as he pulled out the book in his bag and sat back in his chair waiting for class to begin.

Post by Professor Amaryllis Hardy on Jun 17, 2006 12:37:43 GMT
The classroom filled up quickly, and Amaryllis returned each of her students' greetings personally as she was finishing checking over the equipment. This all done to her satisfaction, she sat down behind her desk again, half-watching the students (she didn't want a whole lot of trouble going on in front of her nose, and besides, it was interesting to watch how they interacted) and also gathering her thoughts on how she intended to teach the subject she had in store for them today. In her personal opinion it wasn't the very most interesting part of the course possible, but it was on the syllabus and undoubtedly a rather important part of understanding Muggles. The lesson was on the word - or rather the thing since the word just described something - that would come first to the mind of even the most ignorant witches and wizards when asked about Muggles. Amaryllis stood up to shut the door as the bell rang to signal the start of the lesson, letting it snap smartly so that the students would know to stop talking. She waited for a few moments until there was quiet before walking over to stand just in front of her desk. "We're going to be studying electricity today," she told them, waving her wand to make the word appear on the board. "If you can't spell it, write it down now," she advised, a small flicker of amusement flickering over her features. Nothing wrong with them not knowing it, but it still seemed that some students needed to be given hints as to how to remedy that in the long term. Ah well. "I suspect the majority of you will have heard of electricity," she continued. "Since Muggles can't use magic to do things for them they've invented machines to make things easier for them. These used to work mechanically, without needing any electricity. For example, this Singer sewing machine here, from around 1900," she said, walking over to the corner of the room and pulling the coarse white cloth she'd had covering the large device off it. A sturdy, heavy table of medium hued wood supported a largely black machine. Largely black - it was ornately decorated with beautifully coloured flowers, even if the colour was fading on this particular machine. But it was an old one. "This works entirely mechanically," she said as she passed round two models of that type of machine intended for dolls houses and a detailed diagram of its different parts, "- there's no electricity involved. The user provides the power needed to drive it by pushing the treadle back and forth," she explained, pointing to the relevant part of the machine. "Anyone want to have a go at using it?" she asked, looking around the class for a volunteer. ((The machine I was trying to describe, model 1 and model 2 that she passed round, and the diagram that she passed round. And I'll post again to answer Dana's question once someone's volunteered, so if you want to volunteer, go ahead. )

Dana peered at the sewing machine professor Hardy revealed almost curiously. But she didn’t volunteer herself. She had never even sewn a button to her blouse so why on earth would she even know how to sew something more! This was what tailors were for. Dana agreed to pay for their work, but she didn’t want to sew herself. It was her after all! And Dana wasn’t too fond of physical labour actually. That and quite some vanity made sure that Dana didn’t feel any desire to sew. A quick glance towards Cleo displayed a scowl on her ace as Cleo looked at the sewing machine with sincere distaste. Yet Hardy’s other words had rather caught Dana’s attention.
“A question, professor,” Dana stated loudly still raising her hand as she gazed at the professor with an odd, almost morbid curiosity, “You mentioned electricity. Don’t muggles use electrocution as a way of killing? So how much of electricity is lethal for a person?” Dana asked her voice loudly ringing over the classroom as she waited for an answer.

Class had began and Leah listened to professor Hardy begin her lesson. Professor Hardy mentioned a thing called 'electricity.' Then she showed a muggle item called a sewing machine. Leah looked at the sewing machine with much curiosity. Why don't they just sew with their hands? Leah listened to a girl that asked a question and wondered about that herself. Muggles were so confusing with their silly machines and inventions. Leah scratched her head in confusion and waited for the answer to the girl's question and for her confusion to diminish.

Myn leaned against the tree lazily, her eyes half-closed sleepily. She had only stayed in the Great Hall long enough to eat a small meal for lunch before heading for the Grounds. The Great Hall was far too crowded for Myn's liking and so she usually either skipped meals, brought a muffin or some other form of nourishment out to the Grounds or did what she did today, ate quickly and dashed out to be in the fresh air. She didn't really know why she hated to be cooped up in the Great Hall but it was just too crowded and stuffy and noisy. How could anyone stand to stay in there for longer than ten minutes? Myn opened her eyes properly to flick a glance at her watch carelessly before yelping and sitting up straight. She had a class, Myn knew she did. Exactly what the class was, Myn couldn't recall but she knew that she had planned to go. "Think; think; think." Myn chanted to herself quietly, rubbing her forehead irritably in a useless attempt to remember her class. "Ahah," Myn scrambled up quickly, using a branch from the tree she had been leaning against to haul herself up to a standing position.
Myn rifled through her bag as she walked toward her class, searching for her Muggle Studies book and changing her direction once she found that it wasn't in her bag. Myn scowled, breaking into a run as she checked the time again. At this rate she would just arrive at class in time but if she didn't hurry then she'd lose points. The book was snatched from the bed and shoved into her bag, even as Myn turned to leave. After a hesitation, she grabbed a ribbon and some clips from her table and skipped out the door, grateful that most people were already at class. One hand twisted her hair up into a considerably messy bun as she hurried through the corridors, turning into a different corridor sharply. Exactly why Myn was attending Muggle Studies after living as a muggle for eleven years, she wasn't sure. Still, it had to be interesting to experience how wizards saw muggles. After all, she had considered herself a muggle for eleven years so she was really seeing how they had thought of her before she had discovered the magical world.
"Hello, Professor." Myn grinned easily and nodded to Professor Hardy as she slipped through the door, glad to realize that she had arrived before the class had started. Losing points wasn't on Myn's list of things to do during her first year. Or her second or any other year really. Still, it couldn't really be avoided. You had to lose points at some time. A quick scan of the classroom showed her that only a few first years were there and Myn smiled in relief to see Wendi there. At least she wouldn't have to sit by herself. "Hey, Wendi," Myn grinned and sat next to her friend. The Professor showed the class a sewing machine and Myn smiled in recognition before tilting her head as an older Ravenclaw - Dana Coran, Myn reminded herself silently, remembering the older girl from the Beltane celebration - asked a question. It was a good point to make and Myn leaned forward slightly, curious as to whether Professor Hardy knew the answer.

Post by aneen on Jun 17, 2006 23:36:27 GMT
Aneen quickly washed her food down with a swig from her goblet. Slinging her bag over her shoulder, she hurried out of the great hall. She was hoping to get to Muggle Studies early to claim her seat in the back corner, not that it was hard to get that seat...but still.
The Hall had been too oppressive that day. Too loud, to many people. It inhibited any good observations. Despite a quick lunch, a moving staircase got the better of her and she wasn't as early to class as she would have liked.
On arrival, Aneen took a quick survey of the room. The back seats were taken. A sinking feeling came over her and she realized she'd have to sit in the middle.
At least...I'm a half-Muggle the joke cracked weakly in her mind. The class was a bit of a joke to her as her dad and brother were Muggles and she'd gone to Muggle school...she didn't even like the word Muggle. But she was perfectly aware how they worked and found it a near colossal joke that a Wizard taught the joke. Well, she could be a Mug...non-wizarding person.
Aneen fidgeted something awful in her seat after she'd gotten her paper and pen out for notes. She had a horrid feeling that someone was staring at her. She shook the feeling off for a moment, but knew that the class period would be more of a waste than normal. Of course she knew what a sewing machine. The family she babysat for had one. The mom liked to sew her own curtains and be able to mend the kids clothes. Aneen had never used it, but had seen it used enough. But there was no way she would ever volunteer to try for herself.
But when the conversation headed towards the death penalty, Aneen just put her head in her hands. And we call them ignorant! Muggle kids come into this school and catch on in days. She looked back to see who had asked such a ridiculous question. Dana! heh. This is going to be a pretty discussion...
