Ancient Runes. Ivy wasn't sure she was going to be able to concentrate in this lesson. She couldn't give anything her full attention recently. Try as she might she couldn't distract herself from the hurt and guilt she felt pressing inside her. It was always putting some sort of thought into her mind. She wanted to get past this. To just remember Laura as she had been. Yes, it would still hurt. She had been a good friend. But at least then Ivy would be able to remember the happy times with something that wasn't quite pure sadness and anger. It was something that would pass, this period. She was sure it would. It wouldn't last forever. It couldn't. But at the moment she was still very much consumed with a burning, painful mix of sadness, shock, guilt and anger and she didn't know how she was going to be able to provide the concentration a challenging class such as Ancient Runes demanded. It was the hardest class she took, and Nokomis wasn't in it. She wouldn't even be able to hide quietly by her friend who understood how she felt.
Ivy tugged on her hair as she pushed open the door to the Ancient Runes classroom, shivering as she did so. It wasn't that the classroom was cold - it was as pleasant an environment as always. But Ivy was cold at the moment, her fingertips icy. It had been chilly outside. She pinched her nose momentarily, her head going into the hand a moment later before emerging - something she often did when feeling slightly upset and oppressed. It hid her face and steeled her against shedding any tears. She noticed vaguely that there were already quite a few people in the classroom, but she made straight for the blonde-headed girl she usually sat next to. Hayden (a first year Hufflepuff she really didn't know very well, but then again hadn't made many efforts to get to know either) was on one side of Ashley already, so Ivy took a seat on the other side. Taking her books, parchment, ink and a quill out of her bag, Ivy avoided meeting their eyes too much, but gave them a smile and a quiet "Hey."

Victoria quickly combed her hair and left the common room. With a slight nod to many Slytherins she made her way to Ancient Runes. Why am I learning this? she thought and suddenly remembered the conversation she had with her mother and father about Divination. She shook her head in disgust at the thought of the time-wasting subject. Victoria tightened her skirt as it kept falling onto her hips and walked into the lesson. She examined the teacher and rolled her eyes, they all looked the same to her, with the exception of the Heads of houses and Headmaster.
She gazed around the room to see if there was anyone she could comfortably sit next to as there was no more empty spaces left. She saw Madison, Mitch, Fiona and Jack and decided the place to sit was near them. She sat next to Fiona, as she was the only one of them she had really talked to. She nodded and gave her infamous grin and looked back at the class.
No one seemed to be taking a real interest in anything except for the things around them on the walls. It was a bright room but Victoria found nothing more interesting in it than any other classroom. She flicked her hair and patted her skirt. At least I'm not late, she thought to herself.

Post by Padme Rendel S2 on Nov 19, 2005 17:54:07 GMT
"Well..." Padme pulled on her bed sheet so hard it fell to the floor. She hated everything to do with her dorm. She was actually missing, really missing, her own bed, her own room. She didn't miss Tessa though, Padme didn't even think about that fraud anymore...most of the time. With a strangled sigh she pulled the sheet back on the bed and made it as perfect as she could with the time remaining. Sometimes, Padme wished that the classes weren't always so...early! I mean, come on, who wants to wake up this early every day of the week and on the weekend, you're so used to it you wake up that time anyway? Padme liked classes, sure, but not the time. Maybe she could've gotten up later, who knows, right? Padme huffed silently at her thoughts before pulling on a pair of torn sandals. Her high heels were currently under resurrection and would be present the next week. Until then she would wear these mangled...things.
Padme walked down to the Ancient Rune class. Instead of the normal clip-clop, there was a scuffing noise instead. She had never bothered to pick her feet up at times, so she practically slid across the floor. With a smirk as she accidentally ran into a girl two years younger, Padme swiveled away and backed into the wall. "Terribly sorry there. I must have mistaken you for the wall. Not that there's a difference." Padme smirked and left before the girl uttered a word. Her shoulder back, containing all books and things needed for her classes of the day, was swinging on her shoulder. It almost fell off once but Padme caught it right on time, of course.
Padme reached the classroom of Ancient Runes and peered inside to see who she wanted to sit with. The people who just walked inside were complete fools, for they ended up just standing there, trying to decide who to sit with. Padme would be prepared like any normal person should be. She spotted Jack in the back sitting next to the same girl who had been in Rome. Padme had figured Jack knew the girl, but she was still surprised to see him sitting next to her. She had expected him to be sitting with his girlfriend after all. Wasn't that the rule with him? Padme smirked and walked in, finally decided. She went toward Jack but sat down at the table next to him. With a derisive snort, she pulled at her bag, bringing it on top of the table. "See? I came here after all." She whispered at Jack with a glare before getting all her materials out.

Aubree sat on her bed putting her supplies into her green, silk messenger bag. She put in the necessary items, quills, parchment, and other things. She would be attending Ancient Runes. It wasn't her favorite class, but anything beat Divination. Before leaving her dorm, Aubree quickly brushed her long, blond mane and brushed the lint of her robes. When she felt she looked acceptable, Aubree slung her bag on her shoulder and headed off to class. She always prided herself on keeping a good impression which included appearances. Her parents always prided her on keeping excellent looks and she would always follow the appearance code they had taught her over the years. Every young Slytherin girl had a code they grew up with and learned. The code sort of varied from appropriate clothing to avoiding mudbloods. Aubree knew it back-wards and forwards and was determined to follow it. After all, if she wished to be a Death Eater, Aubree would have to know the customs.
Aubree slowly made her way out of the dungeons. She hated that the common room was in the dungeons. It was too cold and she felt Dumbledore was trying to hide them. It was like he was embarrassed of them and didn't want them seen. But, he was just a filthy mudblood lover. He didn't know any better. Aubree clinched her Slytherin robes to keep the cold air from reaching her neck. She had never become fully used to living in such cold conditions. Aubree sneered at the first years as she left the dungeons. She had only met one she liked and the girl was a Slytherin. Aubree could see their eyes. It was obvious that they feared her. Of course, many first years feared her. She wouldn't give them the time of day even if they seemed semi pleasant. Aubree finally reached the classroom and walked in. Her eyes searched the room for familiar faces. She then spotted a group of fellow Slytherins. She headed towards them. "Hello everyone." She said to the group. Fiona and Maddie were dorm mates and Jack was a fellow fourth year. Aubree also saw a few Slytherin first years. One of them was Jack's sister who Aubree didn't know and their also was a fifth year near them Aubree also hadn't met. Aubree nodded to all of them and took a seat. She then pointed her gaze to the teacher.

Post by Professor Sandra Tyler on Nov 24, 2005 22:10:06 GMT
Sandra watched as students began to walk into the small classroom. Some of them said good morning and took a seat next to their friends. All she would do was smile and half lean on her desk for everybody to arrive. When she thought everyone had arrived more students came into the classroom. Sandra's blue eyes sparkled with delight at the sight of so many students who had signed up for the elective. Last year she probably only had about 15 and now it looks about 20. That was a great increase. Looking up at the clock that hung in front of the classroom she stood up and looked at her students more closely. There were so many new faces and familiar one too. "Settle down now everyone and welcome to Ancient Runes. As other class this is not a place to chat with your friends as you please." she began walking toward the front rows of desk. "Before we begin out lesson of the day, can anybody tell me at least five of the rune names and their special powers? The runes are set in front of you to give you a hint." Sandra asked waiting for students to raise their hands.

Jack straightened his materials and leaned back in his chair. There was a soft chattering going on in the classroom, but it wasn't so loud to make the conversations going on heard. Jack hadn't talked to Maddie much except to say hello and the hello nod, which was enough for now. The Professor then asked about the Runes and their special powers. Jack looked down at the Runes chart in front of him for help. This question was rather easy. Even the Professor had told them they could use the charts. So it was a basic beginning to a lesson. Jack looked over five of the runes and their powers before raising his hand. He was going to say the five he liked the most, or maybe he should say more then five? He shrugged and looked up at the Professor expectantly.

As Natalie walked into the room she noticed many others. She was surprised to see so many familiar faces. Natalie decided to take a risk during this class. It wouldn't exactly be a risk to other people but just a small change in seating. Natalie took the chance and took an empty seat still in the front row but one seat away from the teacher. She took out her quill and parchment and sat with her hand poised and ready to take notes. Natalie wanted to make sure she had perfect grades in every class she had. At the very first word, Natalie's quill fired away at the parchment and before long she was running out of space before the lesson even started. She hastily took out another piece of parchment careful to remember every word the teacher said while she did not have paper. She got back to writing as soon as it was out. The teacher seemed to notice Natalie's attentiveness in class for she smiled at the site of another page of parchment getting filled up with writing.

"Hi, Gin," Dana greeted the 6th year who sat next to her with a calm smile as she snapped over her book after glancing at the page-number she was on. Dana never used some markers to tell her where she stopped. The markers always got lost or painted the book-leaves or did a number of different things. Remembering the page-number was far more practical.
Looking up as professor Tyler asked her question Dana raised her hand calmly. If you didn't like runes or didn't know something about them, then you didn't take this class. Telling about 5 runes would be simple enough so Dana hoped Tyler would call on her.

Fiona sat sulking in the back of the room. She like Ancient Runes, but it had been Professor Tyler who had busted her in Hogsmeade. Fiona had lost 30 house points and had gotten an ear full from the prefects about it. She felt horrible about it. She had been stupid and it was enough to outcast her at the moment. She was determined to work extra hard in her classes to answer questions and get back the points she had lost. She didn't want to look like she didn't care. She smiled and nodded at the people that greeted her as they entered. She didn't say much of anything. As class began, Professor Tyler asked a question about the runes. Fiona thought about 5 different runes and she raised her hand high. She was determined to make up for her last mistake. She looked at Professor Tyler with determination. She wanted to answer the question, she hoped Professor Tyler would let her earn back those points.

Cass waved her hellos to friends as she walked down the hallway. It was a nice, crisp day outside, and she hated that she was going to have to waste it in class. Ancient Runes wasn't her favoriate class, but it was better than some of the others she had to choose from. She walked into the class with not much time to spare. Professor Tyler was just getting up to speak to the class as she slid in one of the desks in the back. Cass raised her hand in the air after Professor Tyler's first question since she was sure of the answer.

Sandra half leaned on her desk waiting for the students in the room to raise their hands. This was a rather simple question to answer; they all had a cheat sheet right in front of them. Seeing the first two hands raised in the air Sandra smiled at them. The very first hand she saw was from an Slytherin fourth year and the other from a sixth year Ravenclaw. "Mr. Rendel, please do give us five runes names and their powers. Ms. Coran you may continue after him." Sandra said, waiting for the two students to give their answers.

Jack's hand waited patiently in the air. He put it down with a smirk as he was called upon. This was probably one of the easiest questions they would get all year, and Jack was determined to get Slytherin some house points very soon so they had the slightest of chances to make second, maybe even first. He glanced once at the cheat sheet in front of him, gathered all the information he needed, and looked up again.
"Okay. AN's powers is to negate. CORP is Death. EX's power is to free and GRAV is energy. Also, IN means to create." Jack sat back in his chair and gazed at the Tyler. The runes had been the first five on the list, which was an easy way to do things if Coran was to do another list of runes.

Dana was called on so she calmly let her hand down while turning her head slightly as the Slytherin started to speak about the runes. The 5 first runes... how very unimaginable. The boy started and Dana looked at the runes on the table calmly for a moment before starting to speak up as she pointed out different runes at the same time she talked about them. „The rune TYM stands for time and the rune MANI for life, while ORT is Magic,“ Dana started pulling out random runes she liked as she called out their names, “Vas stands for grand, glorious and JUX is the rune for harm. The rune names pretty much give away their power – what they stand for – so I’m not going to dwell into what each rune specifically does.“ Dana gave a cool smile at the professor as she leaned back in her seat pushing the runes she had shown back to the pile she had picked them out from.

[/i]Late? How could I possibly be late![/i] Of course it was not exactly a rare occasion for him to be late, in fact it was rather normal. He didn’t mean to be late, it just seemed to happen. Most of the time he simply got distracted, as he was always up in plenty of time, and his intentions were always good. Today he had knocked over a few plates in the great hall, and when he was trying to clean up he ended up knocking over a few more, and so it continued until he realized that Runes had started five minutes earlier. He rushed from the great hall and up to the Ravenclaw common room and to his trunk where his books were neatly kept. After gathering up a bit of parchment and his quill, and of course his runes book jogged back down the hall and to class.
He knew he was late, but it was better late than not showing up at all, and he flung the door open, perhaps a little bit too loudly, and he stood for a moment in the doorway, glancing around the room. After a moment he spotted a free chair somewhere in the middle and he walked in and tried to find his way too it. “Sorry….carry on, carry on!”
