Character numbers soudned interesting. Gary tried to add the numbers in his head but in no time he was messed up already. So with a small sigh Gary took a strip of paper and scribbled down the numbers wih a piece of pencil he found from his pocket. Coming to a 7 in the end. Gary added the numbers together two times just for good measure. And when the outcome was the same both times he figured it was the correct number. Opening the book Gary read about what he was suppsoed to be like. Gary tried to be understanding and he wouldn’t have been in Ravenclaw if he didn’t mind studying. And money really wasn’t everything. Gary had never been rich but his family had always managed to pull through together. But Gary didn’t think he was overly pessimistic. But who knew? At least he had gotten a result so Gary impatiently waited for the class to go on.

Juliette walked around the room as the students began their work. "Well done Mr. Graas, take 5 points." She next walked past a pair of Ravenclaws who both had finished their work, "Excellent Miss Coran and Hardwick, 5 points for each of you." She next walked over to a Slytherin who had also finished his work. Looking at his parchment it was well done, "very good work Mister Crane, Miss Murvac, Miss Jenkins take 5 points each of you."
She then waited for a few more students to finish before she continued with the lesson. "Alright most of you have by now done your character number, next I want you all to find your HEART number. HEART numbers refer to your inner personality, the side of you that only your closest friends know. As with the CHARACTER number, please write down the description for your inner personality."

Dana gave a small smile upon receiving 5 points from professor Vector. It was always good to earn points for Ravenclaw. Dana owuld persoanlly skin anyone who would dare to loose as many points for Ravenclaw to rob it from it’s winning place. Well, perhaps not skin. But she would do something to such a person. Spiders and itching powder in such a persons clothes or perhaps dropping the person in the Slytherin locker-room. That idea had perspective surely.
Heart number. Picking up her quill once again Dana scirbbled the vowels in her name down. 1,1, 6 and 1 made a total of 9, so without calculating any further Dana turned to see what her ineer ’heart’ was like. Completion and achievemnt was nice. What could be better than a complete personality and character? Surely, some development would always tookplace, but the basics of it were there. Dana wasn’t overly service offering, she rather used her social skill sto make others do what she liked. Diplomacy was rather inviting prospect for Dana. The arrogant part was true as well as Dana had to admit to herself. As for determined – now, this wasn’t too bad either. As for being inspiration, Dana just snorted. People who found inspiration from inside her, should think very seriously about the rest of their lives. Wouldn’t there really be anything more worth of gaining inspiration from?

Kris sneered. Good work? It was excellent work. He should be awarded points for even deciding to show up!He was blind so if he would demand it, the professors should have to spend extra time tutoring hm privately with a curriculum that would suit him! Cutting the sneer Kris smirked at the sudden whim of deodorant that suddenly reached his nose. „Missed me so much, that you even sit near me in class, Cleopatra?“ Kris muttered quietly recognizing the person. They had had a few run-ins. They seemed to be constantly at each others throat, but Kris liked Cleo Hardwick. She had spirit and back-bone. Quite a charactere as well. Refreshing so Kris rather looked forward to their meetings 3 or 4 times a week.
Having only 3 vowels in his name, Kris had no trouble adding the numbers in his head. 9+1+1=11, so his inner personality was 2. Kris snorted at the description. He and cooperating? Not very likely. Sweet-nature? Why, of cours.e Kris was your every-day angel floating around. Now self-conscious was more like it. AS for Kris didn’t bear any mind for any other adjectives. They were describing a Gryffindor a bit too much to be true about him. He wasn’t brave or foolish. He simple knew what he wanted and how to gain it with minimum risk.

Cleo froze for a moment after giving a cocky grin after earning points. It was so easy. How could anyone not be able to handle it? Kris’s words came as a shock. How had he known she was there? How had he recognized her? After a few minutes of pondering Cloe guessed that her perfume might have given her away. That didn’t stop her from giving a strong kick to the chair the Slytherin boy was sitting on, shiting it lightly for her ultimate pleasure. Not nearly as much as she had wanted to. „Shut up you idiot. It’s not like there was anywhere else to sit!“Cleo hissed back furiously, ignoring the small voice in her head saying that there had been other empty seats as well.
Glancing at the heart number Kris scribbled down Cleo glanced at what number two meant and arched his eve-brows. Definately not Graas. Before the professor could commnet Cleo added her own numbers getting a total of 3. Complete, talent, humor, social ease, artistic nature. Now this was all true. People who weren’t able to handle Cleo didn’t deserve to know her either. And she was artistic. To some point. She had a nice sense of colours. Lucky, successful – not these weren’t bad characteristics at all! As for unfocused – why, if Cleo was unfocused she woulnd’t be in Ravenclaw! She would be in Gryffindor at such case. They never seemed to stay put and actualyl study except for Granger. Well, perhaps that was a bit superficial, but Cleo had never cared much for Gryffindors. Easily offended – now Kris deserved one more burning glare at these words. Now this boy could twist Cleo’s nerves until she exploded in his face. Just like it happened a couple of times every week. Not that it wasn’t amusing in a way. Or beneficial as Cleo had learned and perfected a lot of spells and hexes during their run-ins.

Flo grinned at her five points to her house. A little song played inside her head. If your happy and you know it, clap your hands! *clap clap*
The next thing Flo had to do was find her HEART number. There were three vowls in her name. O=6,U=3 and A=1. 6+3+1= 10. Flo wrote it down down. 1+0= 1. So Flo's HEART number was 1.
Flo looked in her book for the number one. She read what it said, and was not pleased. Ones are independent, focused, and determined That was ok, but the next bit that Flo read, she really didnt like. Ones find it difficult to work with others and don't like to take orders. They can be self-centered, egotistical, and domineering. Flo frowned as she read this. She didnt work well with others? She was can be self-centered? Flo bit her lip. Was this really what she was like on the inside? Flo decided that this was not her. But she wrote it down. Before she did, Flo re-checked it. Nope, still the same. Flo sighed and wrote the description and put her quill down.

Illiya smiled shyly at the Professor as she was awarded 5 points for her house. Slowly, but surely, she was re-gaining the points she’d stupidly lost her first day of classes. Illiya glanced back down at her book and flipped through the pages to the section on heart numbers. Her fingers scanned the page, browsing over the information she’d learned last night before her eyes turned back to where her name was scrawled messily on her paper. Silently, Illiya added the numbers that corresponded with her vowels and came up with….6. Illiya quirked an eyebrow and sat back, a frown deepening across her brow. What the…. she scowled at it, but by the third time she’d added it up, the number had resolutely refused to change. It was correct, if odd. Illiya looked over to the chart in her book to read what her heart number was supposed to mean.
Six, was the same. It meant exactly what it meant when it was her character number and Illiya began to truly worry people would think she was gossipy. Either that, or her personality was just flat and generally dull. Neither prospect was pleasant.

Gary was glad to get 5 house points. Ravenclaw could always use some points. Professor Vector already gave the second task and Gary glanced at his book to recall how exactly you could find your heart number. It was a funny name really. Finding your heart number. Like all people had numbers on their hearts. ‘That heart looks strong. Let’s match it up with heart number 436.’
All the vowels in his name had to be added together. That made a total of 29, from where came number 11 and finally number 2. The first sentence of the description made Gary smile. Balance and interaction sounded all very good. Creative, imaginative, sweet natured. Gary would have been proud to be called any of these things. He wasn’t so sure he had a complex enough personality to be the best example of contrasts. But he didn’t really argue with the words either. Perhaps he was conflicted? He most certainly was indecisive sometimes.

Ivy smiled back at the girl, who introduced herself as Flo and started to get her things out of her schoolbag. Flo asked if she was 'the Hufflepuff Chaser' and Ivy nodded, feeling secretly pleased that someone recognised her as making a contribution to her house, while a pang passed through her as Quidditch was something Laura had done. "Yeah, yeah I'm one of the Chasers," she said hurriedly in reply. "Ivy." She gave the other Hufflepuff another smile, but kept fairly quiet because she didn't like to be too noisy before lessons - it would be especially rude when the teacher was already in the classroom. Professor Vector began the lesson soon after, and opening her textbook at the relevant page, Ivy straightened out her piece of parchment, dipped her pen in the dark inkpot and started to work through the process to find her character number.
Since she didn't have a middle name, something her mother had decided upon, she wrote down her name as 'Ivy Tunstall' as neatly as she could and started to put the value for each letter underneath it. I was rewarded with a 9, V with a 4 and Y with a 7. The sum she wrote underneath, grimacing at the opportunity to do mental arithmetic. The total sum came neatly to 40 so she cancelled it down to a 4. Practical, reliable, and down to earth, according to the paragraph she was now copying down into her book. She would like to think she was reliable, certainly, although she didn't think she was overly practical. She was still fairly practical though, she supposed, and since her anger was supressed some of the time it did occassionally bubble up. But her anger was mainly directed at herself, some sort of inner conflict probably according to the paragraph. Ivy sighed slightly. She wasn't particularly fond of any types of fortune-telling, but Arithmancy seemed uncannily accurate for her sometimes. And this classroom didn't give her a headache like the Divination one did.
Ivy smiled at Flo since Professor Vector had just given her some points, before continuing on to her HEART number, wondering who her closest friends were at the moment. Nokomis and Sadie at school probably... and Fanny and Livi at home. The textbook said she should be using the vowels of her name for this so wrote these down: Iua, surprised at quite how few vowels she had in her name. She pulled her ruler out of her bag, into which she had slipped a piece of embroidery, with her name on, interwoven with ivy, flowers and berries. The measurements were also carefully marked on it with thread. She had charmed the wood over the top so it would be transparent, a charm she had spent a good while practising before she had actually performed it on the masterpiece. Now she used this ruler to draw a line between where she had worked out her character number and where she was now working out her heart number, and steadily she concluded that her heart number was 4 as well. She copied the paragraph down again from the book as neatly as she possibly could, again giving the Hufflepuff next to her a shy smile and feeling glad for the distraction from other thoughts.

Katrina had not noticed they were giving out points and had sent most of that time writing in her note book. She was writing things she had to remember to do as she an awful memory. She knew that she had to write down her and Emma's lesson.
When she heard that her heart number was supposed to be found out she out her quill down and searched through her book. It took her only a little time to finally get her answer. She looked at it and studied it carefully.
Her heart number was surprisingly the same number as her character one. Words like fun-loving, easy-going and energetic came up again. She agreed this deeply and she felt that most of the people who knew her would agree with it as well.
She wrote this down and looked around, she wasn't last this time and for that she was extremely pleased.

Juliette walked about the room and once more gave points to students who completed their work properly (Dana +5, Kris +5, Cleo +5, Flo +5, Illiya +5, Gary +5, Ivy +10, Katrina +5). When most had reached their HEART number she moved on. "Lastly for today, I want you to find your SOCIAL number. When you have found it, you are finished for today. You have two pieces of homework today. First I would like you to look at your CHARACTER, HEART, and SOCIAL number and briefly write how they do or do not reflect your personality. Arithmancy isn't for everyone and the more your numbers reflect your personality the more useful Arithmancy will be for your everyday lives. Your second homework task is to find the CHARACTER number of your house founder. If you would like extra credit you may find the CHARACTER numbers of all the house founders."

Dana drew a circle around the letters he had to add to get her social number to make it easier to follow the number for herself. Adding the numbers Dana got down to the number of 8 in the end. Supposedly that made ’ represents completion and achievement to the fullest degree’. Dana smiled sarcastically at the words. At the very least she wasn’t missing a part of herself. Then again – wouldn’t she have noticed if her arm or ear or leg would fall off and make her un-completed? Service wasn’t Dana’s strong point either she rather had her own subtle ways of making others work for her. But she created good working conditions at the very least! Decided, arrogant and conceited sounded just about right though so Dana gave a brief smile.
Scribbling down the homework Dana threw her things into her bag while glancing backwards at Kris and murmuring a soft question in French. Hearing a negative reply to her offer of company Dana nodded and turned to Sapphire engaging her into a conversation as well as both girls start to make their way out of the classroom when Sapphire was ready with her things and work as well.

Illiya looked back at the figures on her paper designating a number to each letter of her name. She carefully added up all the consonants and came up with……six. Illiya blinked. SIX?! Illiya shook her head as if to clear it. Obviously she had made a mistake. She re-calculated the numbers one more time and came up once more with the single number which seemed bent on haunting her. “This isn’t possible.” She whispered softly to herself. Illiya flopped her head down onto one hand and shook her head again, this time in disbelief. Great. I’m the sign of the devil. Illiya mused un-happily. The number’s description, like the number itself hadn’t changed form one sign to the next and Illiya didn’t even bother to look it up in her book, by now she knew the thing by heart.
Illiya resolutely closed her book and figured at least her homework was easy enough. All her numbers were the same so she could pretty easily decide why it did or did not fit her. She shoved her book back into her book bag and slowly began writing her essay below her name.

Kris calculated the numbers of the consonants in his names easily. 9 two times 1 two times, 7 and 2 – that’s a total of 20+7+2=27+2=29. And in the end it all came down to 2. Still conflicting personality in social life just as before. Balance, sweet-natured, commitment – of course, Kris was your angel extra-ordinaire. The contrasting sides of things: night and day, good and evil sounded much better. At least those words added intrigue to his personality. Moody and self-conscious didn’t sound half that bad to Kris’s ears either. Standing up Kris dind’t bother to note down homework. He would remember it – the question was how did Vector expect him to do the homework while he was blind?
Taking hold of his cane Kris stood and answered Dana’s question about whether he wanted company with a certain no. He would have much more fun picking on his little firesprite. Kris wasn’t exactly sure since when Cleo was ‘his’, but he enjoyed her company despite their constant arguments. So it was no surprise when Kris attached Cleo’s arm to his as they already started picking on each other loudly as they made their way out of the classroom. They were always at each others throats in their verbal spars and this was one of the things Kris liked. Cleo wasn’t afraid to give her best to make him back off in an argument.

Wow, Flo was on a roll. As the girl Flo had talked to before, introduced her as Ivy, the Professor asked them to write their social number. Flo turned back to her book, as she read about the social numbers. Flo looked over her numbers. F=6, L=3, M=4, R=9, V=4, C=3. Flo added all the numbers up. It came to 29. Flo wrote down 2+9= 11. Flo sighed and wrote 1+1= 2. Well every person knows that. Flo thought. so Flo's social number was 2. Thats funny, Flo thought. Her character, heart, and social numbers, were 1,2,3 but re-arranged. Flo looked back at the book to see what her social number meant.
Flo's social number meant that she was Imaginative and sweet natured. Flo didn't mind that. But it also meant she was moody and self-conscious. I am? Flo thought. She wrote it down, wondering If that was really who she was.
Flo finished writing and started to get read to leave. She memorized what she had to do for Homework, so there was no need to write it down. But she did write it down, just to be sure she didn't forget.

Cleo added her social number quickly. 3+3+8+9+4+5+7. In the end it came down to 3. Wasn’t that one of the best numbers to get Cleo pondered, relying on her memory. Just in case she was wrong she flicked open her book once again and checked to see what number three meant. Smiling at the book Cleo wondered if anyone would mind being called talented? Energy wasn’t bad either, humour and social ease – why, all of these were positive. Cleo had to admit that she was rather pleased with it. Lucky, easygoing, and highly successful – of course Cleo liked luck. She liked fast cars and brooms, good-looking guys and galleons too!
AS for easily offended. Cleo had to admit that this wasn’t off by too far. If anyone insulted her mother or herself or her hair or clothes or nail-designs – Cleo could be ticked off immidiately. She had a VERY volatile character. Superficial – in some ways surely. Who wasn’t really? Throwing her things in her bag Cleo looekd up as Kris’s fingers snaked their way around her arm pullnig her towards the door. „Can’t stand some distance between us?“ Cleo smirked as the two were once agian engaged in a furious word-war.
