Post by Professor Sybil Trelawney on Oct 13, 2005 22:10:20 GMT
*Hiccup* Sybil looked through the opening of the sherry bottle. A small red drop of liquid dropped to the ground causing a stir of dust. *Hiccup* Sybil's hand flew to her mouth as she tried to stifle the embarrassing contractions of her diaphragm. Looking at the time, she lifted the red table cloth and stowed the empty container in the pile of glass bottles that were beginning to accumulate under the side table. Standing up and pointing her wand, she closed all the doors on the windows and started a fire in the hearth. Even though it was a warm fall day, Trelawney felt that the fire helped coax the inner eye out, and it also helped make the room particular stuffy. Soon, students began to stream into the tower room.
" Hurry along! Hurry along! *Hiccup* We haven't got all day children!" A bit tipsy, Sybil began to place crystal balls on each of the tiny tables that sat around the room. Pointing to a young student adorned in yellow, " You there! Help me get these crystal balls on the tables." The girl automatically obeyed, glad to catch the eye of one the teachers that she tried to hopefully impress. Being dramatic, Sybil addressed the entering students, " Everybody pick a partner and take a seat! I hope you are all ready to see into the beyond!"

Alarice entered the Divination tower that stuffy morning to find it even stuffier than the heated grounds, and smelling strongly of sherry. Smart move, having a fire blazing in 80 degrees weather. Thought Alarice, plopping herself down into an overstuffed pouf near Professor Trelawny's desk, adjusting her thick heavy schoolrobes. Professor Trelawny began setting out crystal balls on the tables around the room, and ordered another girl to help her. Alarice didnt offer to assist either of them, nor did she want to get up. She was extremely tired that morning and ready for the day to be over. She had arrived to Divination early because she had skipped breakfast, but her stomach was already beginning to scold her for this move. Alarice began to rummage through her school bag in search of something to eat.

Maryn felt the heat spin over her as she entered the Divination Tower. The place was like a furnace and she could barely take it. Maryn looked around. Only a few people were in the class and she seemed to be early. Maryn smiled to herself because she was usually late. She didn't see anyone she knew too well, but she did spot Alarice. "Hey." Maryn said as she approached her. "Watcha doin? She asked as she took a seat beside her.
Maryn had only met her once even though they were in the same house and year. For some reason Maryn usually stayed in a box. It was a friends box. She usually just stayed with her old friends, but when she met new people she usually liked them too. Alarice was easy to talk to. Maryn liked people like that. She usually kept her thoughts to herself, but every now and then she had the courage to let them out. When she did, she felt better.

"Oh hey Maryn." Alarice greeted her fellow Gryffindor with a bright smile who she had talked to on only a few other occasions. Maryn had just entered the Divination classroom and had sat down beside her. "Just fanning myself." Said Alarice irritably. "Could it be any hotter in here? So how are things going with you?" Alarice asked conversationally, pulling a peice of candy out of her bag and shoving it greedily into her mouth. She was starving!

Divination had never exactly been one of her better subjects, but then none of them were really her better subjects. It wasn't that she wasn't smart, or that she didn't get passing marks, it was just that her focus tended to be on other things, especially once quidditch season started. Now in her fourth year though, she decided that maybe Divination would be an good way to try and get her grades up. She liked the class well enough, and she wasn't bad at it, and that was a start.
She made her way tot he Divinations class room early, which was a bit of a surprise. Normally she got caught up in the latest edition of 'Quaffle This,' her favorite quidditch magazine, or lost track of time on the pitch or cleaning her broom. Instead, today, she walked into class room after two Gryffindors she didn't recognize. She had hardly settled down in her seat when Professor Trelawney directed her attention directly at her. She could almost feel her face turning a brilliant red as she was told to help get the crystal balls out.
Slowly she rose from her seat, and carefully went to where the balls were stored, placing one on each of the tables with extreme caution. Her biggest fear at the moment was dropping one of the balls and not only causing far to much attention to be focused on her, but also to annoy the professor of a class she was hoping would help easy her way a bit.
When she was finally done she looked over at the professor. "Is there anything else you want me to do?"

That morning Emma had tried to rise early, she really had.. Plus, she almost made it. Its just those Hogwarts beds! She told herself over and over. They had made her miss breakfast and not do her hair properly. Well, it was ok, but her make-up, though she didn't wear much, hadn't even been applied properly, and her face looked a little dirty. Excepting her eyes, of course. As always, they were full of life, and the bright blue shone brighter than ever. Swishing her hair from her eyes, Emma rushed towards Divination. She had never done the lesson before, but she felt like she had-it was a complicated feeling. Rushing up the trapdoor, Emma imagined the tutor's angry face at her being late.
Stepping over the last ladder rung, Emma gasped. The room seemed ethreal to her- it was smoky just how Emma liked it, though some would call it 'stuffy'. The room was marvellously decorated, and little stools and cushions had been set upon the floor for the students to sit upon. Emma looked around, and noticed with a start that there were actually only three people, minus the professor, who were there. One she roughly knew as Alarice, one in Hufflepuff she didn't, and then she saw Maryn. They had made good friends already with each other, and the age difference didn't seem to matter.
Rushing towards Maryn, Emma smiled at her. She was with Alarice, and Emma said hello to both of them joyfully. "Isn't this place great? I love it!"

Katrina walked up the huge staircase and finally got to Divination class. If it's that far I'm not going, she mumbled, sarcastically, under her breath. She smiled at the class and found a seat the furthest away from the teacher who nodded at Katrina's presence.
She put her bag under the table and got out a quill, bottle of ink and a piece of parchment. She doubted she'd need it as her mother had said the Divination teachers have a problem with talking too much about themselves more than the subject. Katrina didn't mind, all she wanted from this lesson was to rest but by the look on the teacher's face, she was going to be bound to listen to every word she said.
As she got everything out, she ruffled her hair so it was in front of her shoulders and eyes. A hufflepuff girl passed her table, placing a big crystal ball on it with extreme caution. As she left she stared at it, in it all she could see was her reflection and she thought that after all her divination lessons, that's probably what she'll see at the end.

The heady stench of cheap cooking sherry had already wafted down the stairwell and laid over everything like a thin film. Pandora felt soiled just climbing the steps to her room. Great, they’ve got a lush to teach us. Not bad enough we have a half giant. Wait till mother hears of this. Pandora thought bitterly as she steadily ascended to the final landing. A wave of heat rolled out of the partially open door and Pandora half considered just skipping this class. Unfortunately, first years had to take a certain number of core classes and this seemed like an easy enough grade. With a look of utter disdain on her face, Pandora pushed the door open the rest of the way and blinked a few times as the blast of heat and sherry hit her full force. Slow, reluctant steps brought Pandora the rest of the way into the room where several other students were already sitting on over sized poufs in front of low tables. A Hufflepuff had just finished passing out crystal balls and Pandora scanned to room’s occupants one at a time to determine who would be best, (or, more accurately, the least painful) to sit with.
There were no Slytherins, not one, and Pandora began to reconsider her decision to take this forsaken class. The time for backing out was long since past, however, and with a note of doomed determination, Pandora entered the room with her head held high and a look of someone unjustly condemned to death on her face. She quickly found a pouf in the back of the room at an unoccupied table and lowered herself onto it. Her books remained packed in her bag and she leaned heavily on the table to stare at the ball before her.

Cass walked into the stuffy tower with a frown on her face. It was a hard climb up the staircase to the tower top classroom, but, even though that was one of them many downsides to this class, Cass continued to take it. For some strange reason, she really liked to inflict this type of pain upon herself. Sitting down at a table, she was finally able to catch her breath. Cass suddenly sneezed loudly from the incense in the air, and it was hard to breathe. Doesn't this woman understand that some people have allergies?, Cass thought angrily. After a few moments, she saw a fourth year Hufflepuff, Nokomis, placed a crystal ball on her table. Other than Nokomis, all of the other students were younger than her. Propping her elbows up on the table, she cradled her chin in her hands, waiting for the class to start.

Two plats at the back? Two at the side? No plats at all? Curled hair? Straight? Flo couldn't make up her mind of how she was going to wear her hair. She was having a really bad hair day. After much frustration, Flo just put her hair in a ponytail, which she hardly ever did.Flo raced to the Divinations room, as fast as could, dodging random students here and there. As she went through the trap door, Flo blew some of her fringe that was in her eyes.
She Walked over to the little tables, where some where sited. She saw Maryn and Emma straight away, sitting with another girl that Flo didn't know. Walking over to them, Flo smiled. "Hey!" Flo said happily. She looked at Emma. She noticed that make-up on her face. "Hey, your wearing make-up! Pretty." Flo said, still smiling.

Smiling at the fact Flo had noticed her make-up, bad as it was, Emma welcomed her, signalling an empty pillow on the floor. "Thanks. Come Flo, sit. Isn't this place great? I just love it. And your hair looks nice by the way." Emma grinned, and flicked some hair from her eyes. A few more people, Pandora included, had entered the room and Emma felt happy about another class.

Jumped around to seat near back, trying to send more mental vibes to Jordan.

Divination! Jordan jumped up out of her seat in the common room, and looked at the odd looking clock above the fireplace. She had three minutes to get to class! She bit her bottom lip, grabbed her heeled boots, slipped them on- then grabbed her bag and ran out of the common room. She had had practice running in heels over the summer, so she was rather skilled.
There was an echo in the corridors of the clicking sound from her heels. She smiled a little at that, and turned the corner to where the divination staircase began. Her brown hair flew behind her as she ran up the stairs. She then climbed the ladder and entered the stuffy room. Her eyes scanned it. Looking for....for...for...DILLION! Jordan straightened out her skirt and ran her fingers through her hair before she walked/ran toward Dill. She sat down and smiled up at him; "I'm not late... no no no..." She grabbed his arm and pulled him down next to her.
"See not late. Been here whole time, I have. Yep yep." Jordan winked and leaned back in her chair.

Danielle got up slowly and looked at the clock. FUDGE! She only had a couple minutes to get to Divination. She hurried and got dressed, pulled her hair back and headed off. As she ran through the corridors she realized that she had forgotten her glasses.Oh well I'll live. She thought. Finally she got there she hurried in and sat down on one of the chairs, taking out her things as she did.

Gary checked to see what class he had while he was chewing on a piece of toast. Divination. Gary couldn’t exactly tell he liked the subject. It was too hazy and uncertain for his liking. He never really saw anything either. At least Gary didn’t think that he saw something real other than wet tea-leaves or a ball of glass. But he had wanted to know what wizards knew about foretelling the future so he had signed up for class. Taking a muffin to go on the way Gary picked up his things and started the long walk to the Divination. Which literally was a long way down many hallways and up endless staircases.
Finally reaching the class-room Gary pushed the trap-door open and climbed in. “Hello professor.” Offering the beetle-like Divination teacher a small smile Gary looked around the room. None of his friends were here. But a 4th year Hufflepuff was sitting on her own. Gary knew that she was one of the Hufflepuff chasers so he made his way over. At least it was someone from the same year as he was. (Nokomis) “Hello. Do you mind if I sit here?” Smiling at the girl Gary waited for her answer before taking the seat at the same table.

Nokomis, done helping Professor Trelawney with her crystal balls made her way to one of the empty tables and sat down. She dropped her back into the seat beside her, not thinking that someone may want to sit beside her, and started to look through it for her book on crystal balls. She had just pulled it out and put it onto the table when she heard something. She looked up to see a boy, in Ravenclaw robes, standing directly in front of her, asking if he could sit. For a moment she couldn't say anything, instead her eyes grew wide and though she could form the word 'no' in her head, it would not seem to come out in any way that he could understand. Finally, she managed to straighten herself and pull her bag off the chair. "No...um...you can sit here...if you want." She moved so that she looked ahead, not knowing what to do or say. No one ever sat with her--or no one other than her friends. After trying to talk herself out of whatever nerves she had she turned toward him and smiled. "I'm Nokomis by the way."

Finally happy with the turn out, Sybil began to speak to the class. " Sit down! Sit down! We have a very full lesson today, and this may take some time." Sybil ignored the groan that permeated the classroom. " Now, *hiccup*, could someone please tell me what they call the search for distant or future events using a ball of rock crystal?" Sybil was surveyed the classroom, and decided to pick on a Ravenclaw boy ((Gary)). " You, there! The answer. Come now quickly!"

Lavender quickly hurried up the stairs to divination. She was afraid that she wouldn't get to say hi to Professor Trelawney before the class started. She was her favorite Professor and her idle, her mentor. Lavender looked up to Trelawney so much and she would never want to miss one of her classes. Lavender quickened her pace as she reached the top of the tower and a ladder extended to the classroom. She climbed the ladder quickly and entered just before the lesson began. The familiar fire and incense reached her nostrils and Lavender smiled. She loved this place, it was her favorite classroom and her most valued class. She looked at the dreamlike classroom and smiled, happy to be back for another year. "Hi Professor! Back again for your wonderful class!" Lavender said with a bright smile as she took a seat by herself near the front of the classroom. She wanted to be as close as she could get to Professor Trelawney. Besides she wanted the Professor to see her future and tell her about it as she did back in her third year.
Lavender pulled her book out as Professor Trelawney began the class. She asked a question about the crystal ball. Lavender raised her hand, but Professor Trelawney had already called on a Ravenclaw boy. Lavender waited to see if he knew the answer.

Gary smiled at the girl and sit down next to her. She seemed friendly so Gary’s smile widened a bit reaching his chocolate-brown eyes that twinkled back merrily at Noko. “Hello, I’m Gary. Gary Michael Crane. You look familiar really. You are one of the Hufflepuff chasers, am I right? You are a good player!” Just then the professor started the lesson and Gary was a bit startled that he was called on first. He wasn’t very brigh tin Divination. Didn’t have a strong enough aura appearantly.
“Um foretelling the future? Divination? Gazing? Gaining mystic insights?” Gary tried to offer as many synonyms for staring at the ball of glass as possible. Sending a bit helpless a glance at Nokomis Gary tried to think something he had read sometime. In History class. “Gazing into the crystal ball opens the um, third eye so people who have the third eye can see images of might be happening in the future. Because the crystal is like a magnet for psychic energies and influences so the truth of the sightings depends wholly on the strength and ability of the gazer?” Gary tried to smile hoping that the professor would pick something truthful out of his answer as he simply couldn’t think of anything else.
