Post by Professor Rubeus Hagrid on Nov 1, 2005 2:20:25 GMT
Hagrid stood on the stump of a dead alder tree, surveying the scene before him. He clearly reminisced the last time he had shown his class a hippogriff. His first ever class had already begun badly because of the biting books he had assigned and it had ended even worse with Malfoy's son having been attacked by Buckbeak. The thought of Buckbeak's trials still brought tears to Hagrid's eyes. But after four years of teaching, Hagrid had gained all the experience one would need to teach a Care of Magical Creatures class. Hagrid had always liked to handle animals and after four years, his skill had been greatly ameliorated. However, he still heard muttering and grumbling from the students when they did not like the subject he was teaching. This time, though, Hagrid was sure that his students would not be disappointed by the magical creature he chose to teach about.
A dozen or so fully grown griffins stood before him in the same paddock he had used to hold his hippogriffs four years ago. Most of them had a golden brown coloration to their feathers and fur and their fierce eyes burned like circular orbs of flame. They were magnificent creatures and were to be respected just as hippogriffs were to be respected. Hagrid hoped that his students held the same point of view. He knew that disrespecting a griffin was far worse than disrespecting a hippogriff; the griffins were half lions instead of half horses and were much fiercer. They were also carnivorous and would eat anything intruding into their territory. That was why griffins were so commonly used by wizards for guarding valuable items or buildings. After watching the pack of griffins for a few more minutes, Hagrid heard the sound of a bell echoe across the vast grounds of Hogwarts, signalling the end of the second afternoon class. Hagrid glanced at the sky and saw that the sun had already begun to set. It was time for his class to start. So, without another moment of hesitation, Hagrid stepped off the stump and trudged back toward his hut where he was sure many students were awaiting his arrival.

Cassandra Blackfire picked up her Care of Magical Creatures Book and headed across the grounds. She had been studying as much as she possible could since she hadn't been getting much done in her classes. McGonogall's essay had set her back in most of her classes, and she was slowly playing catch up. Unfortunately, she was the most behind in this class. Care of Magical Creatures was a cake class, and most people who took it made an Outstanding in O.W.L.S. Last year, Cass had been fascinated with this subject, but she honestly couldn't find the motivations for the class anymore.
Cass loosened her tie around her neck. The thing was suffocating her, and she just had to get it off her neck. Hagrid's hut was coming into view, and she could see the half-giant rambling towards it. She wondered what they would be studying today. Hagrid normally picked neat but dangerous creatures. That fact did make her antsy in his classes, but she would give him her full attention out of respect.

Katrina walked down the pathway to Hagrid's hut, she had been excited to going to Care of Magical creatures because it is one of the lessons her father and mother enjoyed when they were young. She was a bit anxious as she knew it would be a great disappointment to her parents if she was not natural at the subject. It was unlikely as she was good at most subjects. She was especially good at a few. Potions and Herbology as they were practical and not tiresome writing down and practicing. Where she became weak was transfiguration and charms where getting practical wasn't usually first in the class plan. So she suspected that Care of Magical creatures would be, hopefully, one of her strong points. But she didn't know yet.
She walked down further with her bag hanging off her shoulder as she tried to tie up her hair while trying not to fall down. When she succeeded she speed herself up and reached flat ground. The place was much as she suspected it, very damp area close to the forbidden forest. She glanced around to see the teacher, Hagrid, standing proudly and a little bit worried by his house.
I wonder what he is going to teach us about? she heard someone say behind her obviously as curious as she was. She had heard many stories from other students about Hagrid's lessons but had never bothered to listen to them as she was not interested in such biased stories and also they were never as interesting as sleeping which she was usually trying to do when the stories were told.
She shook her head and went closer, only one other girl had arrived and without hesitation she stood close to her and the teacher. She dropped her bag which made birds fly out of the forest like a large bang had been made. She looked at them and saw that the sun was setting, it was getting late and she knew that the lesson was probably not going to be an boring one so she awaited for the time she could return to the warm common room and throw herself on an armchair and rest.
The teacher was incredibly large and she had only met someone who was anything like him, she had met a man who her father was working with in a pub who her mother described as a "barn". The teacher was no exception however he did not look harmful as he had a large smile painted on his face.
Katrina looked back, she was awaiting somebody she knew or at least somebody she could talk to. She sighed and sat on a nearby tree stump. She sat her head in her hands and looked back up at the castle. She had never gazed at it near sunset and like the moon it seemed to glow during the night. She smiled and looked up to see more people coming down.

Pyro's foot was planted firmly on top of the biting book that the oaf Hagrid had assigned to them. He fastened the belt tightly around the book so that it could hardly move. He hated the book. He had nearly lost his fingers when he went and bought the book. Than again, what else could be expected from that giant buffoon. Slinging the book across his shoulders Pyro held his arm out. Miaka, his Phoenix, flew off her perch and landed on his shoulders. Pyro looked at her. He had started to take her to classes. She was starting to get a bit lonely in the dorm while he went to class. So far Pyro hadn't received any trouble from the Professors, but the year was far from over.
Pyro left the dungeons and quickly made his way out of the castle. Miaka was perched securely on his shoulder. A slight breeze was blowing, causing Pyro's braid to dance slightly. Pyro easily found the path leading down to wards Hagrids hut. He tired not to walk the path unless he was forced to, and luckily, to this day he had not found any reason to walk down there aside from class time. As he got closer he could see that he was actually pretty earlier. Cursing his bad judgment of time he stepped down and stood on the outskirts of the forming crowd. He spotted Cassandra, but only gave her a short glance and turned his attention back and waited for class to start.

Fiona grabbed her Care of Magical Creatures book. It had a rope tied securely around the book. She glared at it when it began to growl. "Shut up!" she exclaimed as it tried to open it's mouth. 'What kind of book is this? It's worse than anything I've ever had,' Fiona said to herself as she held the book away from her. She hoped the rope would hold until she absolutely had to open it. She really didn't want to open it, but she knew the great oaf would make them at some point in time. She hated this class, but she couldn't stop taking it until after O.W.L.'s. If only she was already in her 6th year, then she wouldn't have to worry about it anymore. Fiona looked at the clock and sighed. She needed to get going so she wasn't late to class. That's all she needed, for the dumb oaf to take house points, because she was late.
Fiona hurried out of her dorm room carrying the book in front of her like it stunk. She continued up the stairs of the dungeon and out the front door of Hogwarts. Walking down the path to the oaf's hut Fiona cursed to herself. She remembered that this class was full of horrible Gryffindor's. She knew it would make an interesting class, but one of her most hated rivals was in the class. She would surely be giving her problems all year. Fiona approached the hut and saw the oaf and three other students. 'Early again,' Fiona said under her breath. She ignored the two Gryffindors and approached the other student she recognized as Pyro. She hadn't seen or heard from him since her initiation into the Chosen. She smiled at his phoenix. It was such a majestic bird, so beautiful. "Good evening Pyro," Fiona said as she stopped near him and threw her book to the ground. It growled and she kicked it hard.

Aubree made her way out of the Slytherin common room. It was time of Care of Magical Creatures. She sneered at the thought. The class would be rather enjoyable if that Hagrid oaf wasn't teaching. Aubree was interested in the various creatures but she wandered why the class had to be done by a man who looked like a creature himself. Many Gryffindorks had nice things to say about him, but Aubree didn't care what they thought. It's not like their opinions really mattered to her. They were just useless fouls who try to act important or needed. In Aubree's mind, they could all disappear and she wouldn't even notice. Aubree was concerned with her life at the moment. It kept getting difficult and hard to control. Sometimes she wished to live the life of a Hufflepuff. She wished to have to worries and commitments, but that wasn't her at all. Aubree had things to worry about. She had a complicated life filled with responsibilities and things that had to be done even if she hated them.
After heading out of the castle doors, Aubree approaches Hagrid's small hut. Only a few people were around and she didn't seem totally early. That please her because she always like to be right on time and not early. Only eager first years liked to be early and that certainly wasn't Aubree. She walked up to Fiona and a fellow fourth year. His name was Pyro Fiona."Hello Fiona." She nodded at the girl. "And Pyro." Aubree said. She wanted to be polite even though she had never really spoken to him.

It was a regular day and Amelia did not want to start it. Her morning was... as usual... slow. What morning isn't? She had gotten up, reluctantly, and began her day. Her Crup puppy, Rebel, had been playing with a small plastic ball Amelia had gotten for her. Care of Magical Creatures was first... She moaned, looking down at her schedule, COMC... with Slytherins. She sighed. Why do us Gryffindors always get stuck with Slytherins!? Do they enjoy torturing us!? She thought. After grabbing her cloak and her book bag, she called for Rebel to follow her and headed out of the Common Room.
Strutting down toward Hagrid's hut, Rebel loping along behind her she wished, more and more with each foot she got closer, that they would change the schedule so that Gryffindor was teamed with Ravenclaw... or even Hufflepuff! But she knew this wouldn't happene. So she sighed, pushing the complaints from her mind and continued toward the small crowd of students. She immediately noticed Pyro Blackfire and Cassandra... Cassandra was a nice girl. Amelia wistled for Rebel to follow and went to stand next to Cassandra.
"Hey Cass," she said smiling.

It was that time again... classes... A sigh escaped Alexandra's lips as she looked down at her muggle watch. She grabbed her Care of Magical Creatures book and her black cloak, walking out of the Slytherin Common Room. Her feet made a hollow-like pounding each time she walked up a stair and out of the Dungeon. It was, naturally, a regular day... dreary, boring, dramatic. And yes! It is dramatic! Why else would someone put Slytherin House and Gryffindor house in the same class ever since Hogwarts started? People want drama!
She walked outside, cool air stabbing at her arms, through her robes. She shivered, wrapping her cloak about her shoulders. October... is and always will be cold! At least here, in this part of Europe. She continued to walk to wards Hagrid's hut, knowing this was going to be an interesting class... it always was! A half giant teaching a class!? Oh come on! What sort of push over gives a job to something like that!? Oh yeah... Dumbledore... Alexandra rolled her eyes, feeling annoyed. Why is that man still running this place? They need to kick. Him. Out!
Suddenly she found herself less than 4 feet from the small crowd of people that stood near Hagrid's hut. She was jolted from her thoughts and instantly was disgusted at who was standing there. Amelia Richardson... Cassandra Blackfire... some other Gryffindor scum who shouldn't be allowed in the school at all. She sneered, though they did not see and looked around at the rest of the people who had shown up, in the cold of the day. Pyro Blackfire caught her eye. She smiled mentally, remembering when she had met Pyro on the train. That memory wasn't too fun, however. She shivered and walked over to him, wondering if it would seem awkward or odd for her to say hello.
He stood off to the side of the small crowd and didn't look like he wanted to be interrupted. The beautiful bird named Miaka perched on his shoulder. She admired that bird... Its beauty was breathtaking and this was saying alto seeing as Alexandra didn't find a lot of things beautiful. She stood next to him, looking out at the crowd that was slowly getting bigger.
"Err... hello," she said, awkwardly.

Post by giselle on Nov 3, 2005 1:15:11 GMT
Giselle pulled on handy jeans and a sweatshirt. It was rather chilly outside, after all, and she would prefer to be warm then stylish. She sighed and ran a brass comb through her hair. It made a rasping noise as it went through knots. Once she finished styling her golden hair, she looked at herself once more in the mirror. The sweatshirt made her upper-body look slightly bigger then usual. She frowned in dislike before pulling on her robes, relaxing at the thought that no one would see her in the sweatshirt. Her golden locks were pinned to the side so they would be unable to blow in the wind. Giselle looked with disapproval at her appearance once more. She was too pale and her eyes still had the shadows underneath them.
The wind whipped at her hair. Everything was making Giselle more and more frustrated. It whipped at her clothes too. Even the jeans flapped around her legs, and they were somewhat tight. Scowling darkly, Giselle prowled around the Grounds, walking toward Hagrid's hut. The oaf was so boring and such a bad teacher. It was her best class, however, for the grades were easy to get. Now, attention was called for. O.W.L.'s were coming up. Giselle was determined to do better then Catherine, no matter what. She even hoped that the giant man could teach her something. Animals were disgusting brutes - just like the teacher. They were the worst things on Earth. Yet, they proved better then mudbloods. And that was who Giselle was going to be with today.
Gryffindors. Her scowl became prominent. She hated Gryffie's. The only good one was Catherine. She was Giselle's twin sister, so that called for some respect. Gryffindors made Giselle queasy. She smirked as she saw the group on the horizon. A small group next to what she had expected. Oh well. Cathy would be joining. Lately, Giselle had given Cathy more attention then usual. She needed someone and Catherine was just the person. She smiled to herself. Cathy could be a fine Slytherin if she let go of her morals. A smirk crossed her lips as she entered the crowd of people. All Gryffindors and midget Slytherins. They only looked a year younger then her, but so what? Younger people meant more stupidity. Giselle scowled at the Gryffindors. She walked as far away as possible from the entire group and faced the castle and waited impatiently for Catherine to arrive.

Post by Liam Angelus G5 on Nov 3, 2005 20:09:02 GMT
Liam was in a particularly good mood this evening. He had Care of Magical Creatures class, his second favorite class, his first being Defense Against the Dark Arts. The only thing he did not like about the class, was the book that Hagrid had assigned them for the school year. Never had he had so much trouble with any book before. Every time he tried to open the cover he would almost get his hand bitten off. Still, he was not about to say anything to Hagrid about the book, no matter how bad he wanted to.
Making sure his book was strongly secured, Liam placed it in his bag and headed out of the common room. Going down the seven flights of stairs, Liam could feel the book struggling to get free from its confinement. Every few steps he took, Liam had to reposition his bag on his shoulder until he reached the bottom of the stairs where he quickly began to carry it in his hand. Walking out the large oak doors, Liam was suddenly hit by the cold October air.
As he walked down the path towards Hagrid's hut, Liam pulled his cloak around himself tightly to block out most of the cold. When Liam came to within listening distance, he saw a group of Slytherins standing off to one side away from the Gryffindor's. Among his house mates, Liam saw Cass, a girl he'd come to know rather well. When he finally reached the crowd of Gryffindors, Liam set his bag on the ground and sat next to Cass as he said, "Hello Cass, nice night for class."

It was freezing outside. The wind tasseled her hair restless. After a few attempts to make it stay, Catherine's hands fell back to her sides. Hagrid's house was just on the horizon. That was the direction she faced, the direction she was going. Things were beginning to become colder. Cathy disliked winter, but with winter came snow. She loved snow. But flowers were still better. A small smile lifted her lips as the blond hair flew in her eyes once more. It wasn't amusing, just enjoyable. Cathy could see the crowd now. All gathered around the hut. There were two groups, however. Cathy had no doubt as to who was in those two groups. Giselle would be in one, with the rest of Slytherins, and the Gryffindors in another. Cathy frowned in disapproval. Hadn't anyone listened to the Headmaster's speech?
Giselle stood alone, much to Catherine's surprise. She raised a quick eyebrow but hustled none the less to join her identical twin. Giselle's hands had fled to her robe pockets for warmth and her hair was pinned back, unlike Cathy's, which was down. Giselle had been smarter in this case. "Hello Giselle," Cathy greeted, standing beside her sister. The Gryffindors did look rather appealing to her, but today she was going to sit with Giselle. She always sat with Giselle in the classes they had together. Giselle said it was a good image; to be sitting by someone who looked just like herself. A mirror image. "Ready for class today?" Cathy muttered, as she glanced at the hut. Care of Magical Creatures wasn't Giselle's favorite class, and it was often an inside joke between the two about how 'excited' she was.

Cass greeted Amelia as the girl approached her. " Hey Amelia. Didn't know you were coming? At least it will make this class a little better. For a while there, I was afraid I was going to be stuck her with a swarm of Slytherins." She felt that book of Hagrid's struggle in her bag. She really hated that book. " Jeez, Amelia. Is this all the Gryffindor's that are going to show up?"
Cass' question was soon answered as Liam walked up and greeted her. She took a seat beside and smiled at him. Why did he have to show up almost everywhere she went? Not that she minded, and she did love to look at him, but she seemed to turn into a jibbering idiot whenever he did show up. " Um, hey." Cass turned her head away shyly. " So, you having trouble with the book too?" She knocked her head to his struggling bag.

Victoria walked slowly down to Professor Hagrid's, she was in no hurry. Being teacher by a huge oaf, hanging around with a bunch of Gryffindors and handerling dirt animals were not things on her to do list and neither things she wanted to do.
She shifted her top and skipped the last step. She looked around and noticed that more slytherins had turned up. Well that's a surprise, she said quietly.
She saw many people she knew like Pyro but as she was tired and didn't want to speak she went over to the teacher and sat on a nearby bench. She slipped the hairband off her wrist and pulled it around her hair and tightly tied it.

Fiona stood next to Pyro. His phoenix seemed to be enjoying the day and Fiona wished she could do the same, but this class was horrible. Her book was still growling on the ground. She stepped on it and stood there trying to get it to shut up. She heard a voice behind her and she turned to see Aubree, one of her friends. She forced a smile as she responded, "Hi how are you this horrible evening?" Fiona asked with a sigh as she felt the book under her feet. Suddenly it jumped and she fell backward. "Stupid book!" Fiona exclaimed as she kicked the book again. It didn't have much affect on it and she just ignored it. Her attention turned back to Aubree. "Why do we always have to have class with those losers? We should have our own classes. We're much better than they are and we deserve to be treated with respect. This isn't respect," Fiona sighed. Her attention reluctantly turned back to the Professor as class began.

Jumping out of bed with surprising energy, Kiani grinned at herself in the long mirror by her bedside table. Her hair was messy, flying in all directions, but on the positive side, her bags from under her eyes had completely gone. Almsot sprinting to the shower, she turned the hot water on, undressed, slipped into the shower and began singing to herself loudly.
After the second chorus of a well-known french song, Kiani stepped out of the steaming shower, feeling refreshed. Slipping her slim legs into some black trousers and putting on a forest-green tank top, she set her Slytherin robes onto her shoulders and slipped on her shoes. Once dressed, Kiani scuttled over to her little table for the hair and make-up stage. First, she applied a thin layer of black kohl around her dark eyes, then set on her eyelashes some green mascara. After dabbing her cheeks with some blusher, Kiani took out her black brush and smoothed down her long brown hair, making each sleek lock go straight. Then she set around her thin neck a necklace of pretty green emeralds which looked great with her dark face. Once done, she rose from the chair, seized a small green shoulder bag and left the dorm.
Kiani arrived at Hagrid's hut ten minutes later, and wasn't surprised to see that there were more Slytherins than Gyrffindors. Scowling at the old wooden hut, Kiani waited impatiently for the class to begin.

Amelia couldn't help but shrug at Cass's question. She hoped so! It wouldn't be a very enjoyable class if there was only four Gryffindors and ten Slytherins. She was about to answer when Liam Angelus walked up and said hello. Amelia smiled at him. She didn't really know Liam. They were the same house, but he was younger. She had seen him over the summer at a Muggle mall. She had been surprised to see a fellow wizard in Muggle London. Amelia was more interested in Cassandra's reaction to Liam's sudden appearance. She was either relived or nervous or even shy... maybe all at once. Amelia mentally shrugged it off, it wasn't any of her business.
She sighed, wishing the class would hurry up and start. Looking around, she felt even more bored... where was everyone? Over the next few minutes it seemed that only Slytherins were showing up. She turned back to Liam and Cassandra.
"Why do the Slytherins always have to outnumber us every class we have with them!?" she hated how Gryffindors were always stuck with Slytherins in almost every class. Rebel barked, asking for attention and making Amelia jump with surprise. She forgot Rebel was there, sitting at her feet, chewing on her shoelaces. Amelia smiled down at her Crup puppy and bent over, scratching the young pup behind her ear.

"All right, now, everyone! I've got a real treat fer yer today. Just follow me an' you'll find out what we'll be studyin' today," Hagrid said after all the students had gathered around him. A few students groaned when they heard what him say that he had a 'real treat' for them. Of course, Hagrid ignored them and continued, "We'll be headin' inter' the forest there, but it'll just be 'round the paddock, so don't worry!" Without another word, Hagrid lead the students around his hut and through part of the forest. The foliage in the area they were crossing was not very dense and they were not really walking through the forest. In fact, it was more like walking around the forest. They reached the paddock after a brisk five minute walk (brisk for the younger students who had to run to keep up with Hagrid). Hagrid heard some gasps of surprise come from the crowd of students when they saw the magical creatures in the paddock. However, others did not look as happy; Hagrid was sure that there were some students who had heard of the incident between Buckbeak and Malfoy four years ago.
The griffins spread their enormous wings and shook their heads in a fearsome display that showed just how powerful they were. Each griffin had extremely sharp and dangerous-looking talons on their front feet and their beaks were clearly designed for cleaving and ripping. Their hindlegs were those of a powerful and muscular lion. Smiling at the students gathered around him, Hagrid inquired, "So, does anyone know what these magnificent creatures are called?"

Cass followed the giant to the back his hunt. Nervous, she stayed close to Liam and Amelia. Not trying to be rude, when Hagrid said he had a real treat, it normally meant a dangerous treat. However, Cass was pleasantly surprised to see creatures that she actually recognized. Raising her hand, she tried to get the Professor's attention.

Pyro tossed the book on the ground and stomped down onto it as it tried to scurry away. He looked around bored as the crowd slowly began to get bigger. "Hmm? Oh hello Fiona." He said turning to her slightly. "It is a nice evening isn't it? Just wish I wasn't stuck in this class." Pyro turned and nodded his greeting to Aubree as she approached them. A familiar voice spoke up behind him and he turned to face the girl. He hadn't seen her since the train ride. "Hello Alex." He said and grinned at her.
He was about to go one but than the oaf decided to speak. His was one of the many groans(Mainly from the Slytherins) that issued forth from Hagrids, "Treat." announcement. Pyro took his foot off the book and dug his toe underneath it. With a quick flick of the ankle he sent it into the air. He moved to follow Hagrid and caught the book in one movement and followed the crowd.
Once they reached the paddock he tossed the book onto the ground again and looked in at the creatures. He easily recognized them. Remembering well the incident that happened with one of them and Malfoy. He did so enjoy to retell the tale to anyone who would listen. Pyro noticed Cass's hand go into the air. He rose his hand as well. Wasn't worth letting a Gryffindor snatch away house points when Pyro was able to claim them himself.
