Alarice lay on her back on the Hogwarts grounds near the lake just listening to her wizards wireless, humming softly to the tune that was playing into her ears. It was a great song. It sounded a lot like the muggle rock music she normally blasted aloud at her house to annoy her step father, and to let some steam off. Music was a big part of Alarice's life, she wouldnt be able to live without it. It was her outlet. That, and her drawing. Whenever there was something wrong, she either did one of three things. Surrounded herself with people so she wouldnt have to face her issue (which hadnt been working out to well for her lately), sketch in her notepad, or listen and write music. But today, there wasnt anything wrong, just the usual she had to deal with. But who didnt have stuff to deal with? It was a part of life, and no one had it perfect, no one. Alarice stretched her legs out even further infront of her and turned up her music. A great way to get things out of your mind is to just blast it so loud that you cant even hear yourself think. Not that Alarice had anything really wrong... Well, either way, it was nice to just have a blank mind. To just hear the song and nothing else. Lost in her music, Alarice barely noticed as someone trampled over her legs and stumpled. She sat up, without shutting of her tunes, and eyed the person in front of her, not sure if it had been intentional or not.

Derrick Gordon was taking one of his afternoon strolls in the Hogwarts Grounds, as he was accustumed to do when he needed some fresh air. Hogwarts had an interesting way of providing contentment for its inhabitiants, particularily when you find a way to look at the surrounding scenery. This is what Derrick felt at the moment as he strolled through the grounds, humming an old scottish tune. He was feeling a tad careless and it showed as suddenly he stumbled over some poor girl who was listening to Wizarding Wireless.
He nearly fell to the ground as he tripped but somehow managed to stay on his feet. He adjusted himself in front of the person whom he tripped over as she watched him. He looked over towards her and became slightly embarrased. He laughed nervously and said, "Sorry about that. I guess I wasn't paying very much attention to where I was walking."

It was a guy, around her age, that had nearly tripped over her legs. She softened her look a bit as he apologized rather embarrassed, though she could barely hear over her music. She decided to give it a rest for a while, (her ear drums would explode if she kept it up at this rate!) and shut off the wireless. "Don't worry about it." Alarice said casually. "Hey, what's your name? I don't think I've met you before. I'm Alarice Blackstill." She told him with a cheerfull smile. She vauguley wondered which house he was in. She hadnt really seen him around the castle before, and had never noticed him in the great hall. Was he a hufflepuff? Oh well. It didnt really matter. Well, as long as he wasnt a Slytherin that is...

Derrick smiled at her responsem glad that she hadn't looked at him in a patronizing way as he had expected. He knew Alarice by face but had never spoken to her. He knew her to be a Gryffindor also but this didn't very much bother him. He neither understood nor very much liked House Rivalry and he was content to be tolerant to all people, regardless of house. He sometimes actually wished he had been in Ravenclaw instead. "I'm Derrick Gordon. Nice to meet you," he said, taking a seat on the ground next to her. "Nice day, isn't it? I think I've seen you around before actually. Your a Gryffindor aren't you?"
Derrick lazed himself on the grass next to her as he waited for her response.

"Hey Derrick." Said Alarice pleasantly as he plopped down in the springy damp grass and took a seat beside her. She scooted over to make some room and began absentmindedly fooling with the thick strap of her jean backpack. The sun shone into her eyes and she squinted to get a good look at him. Nope, still dont recognize.. She thought she may have been able to after a moment but still she was drawing a blank. And his name wasnt familiar. "Nice to meet you as well." She said in automatic reply. He was awfully friendly.. "You've seen me around? I dont think I've ever seen you before." Alarice told Derrick, though she was always up for meeting new people. She had a lot of friends, but not enough close friends. The only really close person Alarice could think of was Sephora, but they had known eachother since the beginning of kindergarden, and had practically stuck to eachother like super glue ever since.
"Yeah, I'm a Gryffindor." Alarice said in response to Derricks question. "What house are you in? And what year? I'm a third year. You look about the same age as me. Are you 14?" She asked with a bright smile, taking her wizards wireless into her lap and fidgeting with the earphone cord..

((OOC: Sorry that it took me so long to respond. I've been kinda tied up))
Derrick was slightly apprehensive about revealing his house to her. The gryiffindors animosity for the slytherins were great. . .and mutual, but if she knew him to be friendly, then he didn't see how it would possibly bother her. . .even if he was a slytherin.
He spoke up saying, "I'm a third year slytherin. Does that bother you?"
He kept his grin planted in hopes she would see this as friendlieness.

Alarice couldnt help but feel a tad bit shocked when Derrick told her he was a Slytherin. He was incredibly friendly for a Slytherin. Most she had met had been extremley unpleasant. "It dosnt bother me." She answered with a reassuring smile. "It's not the Slytherin that bothers me I guess. It's the horrible attitude that is usually part of the package that does." She rolled her eyes and grinned, though hoping he would take no offence. She knew that when others insulted her house, she felt a little angry. She had infact been placed in that house, meaning that if others said Gryffindors were ignorant, they meant her as well.
"So, what kind of music do you listen to?" Alarice asked in attempts to change the subject. That was practically her default question. Music was Als life, her only passion besides sketching. Alarice glanced up at Derrick and waited for a reply.
