((All my friends IC or OOC can come and join this post with all of their characters if they wish, I won't even mind professors wanting to remember their youth and sleigh-rides . So as long as you are a friend you are welcomed in this post as today the houses or years, or bloods won't matter to Kris if you want to have a sleigh-ride. Just make sure you haven't gone home with your character, because this thread takes place on the 24th December. Just felt like starting it now.))
“Easy,” Kris whispered calmingly to the female thestral as he slipped the reigns over her long neck attaching the last of the 5 thestrals in front of the make-shift sleigh Kris and Cleo had found in one of the dusty storage rooms in the Hogwarts dungeons. Getting it out of the castle had been quite a feat that required a lot of floating spells as the sleigh didn’t really want to be shrunk. Most likely protections wards against being shrunk had been cast on the sleigh to avoid stealing.
“Never thought I’d see Rudolph,” came the sarcastic comment from somewhere behind Kris’s back from Cleo as Kris closed the last clap around the thestrals chest before slowly backing up again while the girl continued speaking, “I added two red Christmas-tree decorations to the first thestral’s horns so I could see him and tell you when you need to steer them in some direction. Think the ride will go smoothly?”
“Should go, even the male alone should be able to easily pull the sleigh while we are one it. With 5 thestrals being reigned in to carry it should be a piece of cake for them. There are 2 in front of the carriages in the beginning of the year anyway,” Kris replied coolly walking down the length of the thestrals – the male in front and then 4 thestrals paired up following him – checking all the clamps all over again to make sure none of the thestrals would hurt themselves as much as to make sure the sleigh wouldn’t suddenly be without anyone pulling it forward. Luckily the sleigh floated a couple of inches above the ground anyway – magic really was a wonderful thing.
“Let’s go and try this out,” Kris told Cleo with a smirk only to feel a hand slip into his as Cleo pulled him over to the sleigh. A simple gesture for which Kris was relatively thankful for, because otherwise it might have taken him quite a while to find the sleigh. Stepping in Kris pulled on a pair of leather gloves before untying the reigns from the sleigh and taking firm hold of them. HE always went sleigh-riding on Christmas Eve at home – Christmas without sleigh-riding wouldn’t be whole. Yet, his horses were back at his home-castle, so Kris had did what he did best – solved the problem. He knew animals well enough and so getting the thestrals to come and put them to pull the sleigh had been a relatively easy task. Finding the sleigh had been a lucky co-incidence and the reigns Kris had simply bought form Hogsmeade on a special order to make sure the reigns fit over a thestrals head. Sure, it had cost him a nice sum – big enough to make Cleo let out a whistle – while Kris simply paid, not bothered by the price at least. Now he just had to see how well his back-up plan had worked.
“Ready?” Kris asked turning his head slightly as Morrigan meowed in the pocket of his cloak while Cleo merely took hold of one of his arms, before replying with an “aye-aye”. Grinning Kris pulled at the reigns making the jingle bells added to them sing while the first thestral reared for a moment before all 5 animals started to walk only to speed up for a run a few moments later. Kris let the thestral run for a while as he tried to get used to the unfamiliar strain the animals put on his arms as he simply steered them as the sleigh dashed over snow easily with the gentle jingling of bells on the reigns. “Up!” Kris called to the animals after he had gotten to know the sleigh and the reigns a little only to be answered by a blood-chilling screech that merely made Kris smile, as he had heard it so many times before. A few moments later the sleigh gave a jerk and Kris felt himself grin out of pure joy as the sleigh started to climb upwards into the air only to continue it’s wild fly in the air above Hogwarts grounds.
“Tower-top!” Cleo shouted and Kris pulled on the left reign making the thestrals and the sleigh dutifully turn left as the circled the school before heading over the lake. Cleo laughed next to Kris’s ear out before starting to sing with Kris joining in with the tune only a few moments later.
“Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
Through the fields we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bob-tail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, O
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Now the ground is white,
Go it while you're young,
Take the girls along
And sing this sleighing song.
Just bet a bob-tailed bay,
Two-forty as his speed,
Hitch him to an open sleigh
and crack! You'll take the lead.
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh, O
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Jingle all the way,
Oh what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.”
“Get back to school, let’s take Dana along,” Cleo whispered into Kris’s ear and after about a minute the sleigh touched the ground again as Kris let the thestrals slow down until pulling to a stop in front of the main doors of the castle as the two finished the song singing a rather merry duet with their voices matching rather nicely. Turning his head to the left Kris smirked at from where Dana’s laughter that had been so rare lately greeted his ears as he gave a small smile as she had came out, having most likeyl heard the sleigh-bells ringing as it was actually time for breakfast.
“Care for a sleigh-ride? There’s room for 4 more people on the sleigh, so I think we should be able to fit you in here,” Kris drawled out calmly, not caring really if someone else took on his offer for Dana as well or not. Today was Christmas after all – for one day in a year, where nothing else mattered, so today Kris would let pretty much anyone come along for a quick sleigh-ride, though he wouldn’t really trust the reigns to incompetent hands.
