Mandi grabbed her guitar case from the dorm room. She had just received her mum's latest owl. Her aunt was worse than ever and there was no one to help her. She knew that the only thing that could help her now was to write a song. She knew that music was a great way to relieve some of her built up tension and sorrow. Trudging down the stairs of Gryffindor tower, she passed by the common room and nodded hello to a few students before proceeding to the portrait of the Fat Lady. She walked quietly through the hallways as she carried her case. Some people watched her pass, but said nothing. She didn't mind. She wasn't in the mood to talk with anyone. Not after what had just happened. She realized that this year she had become lonely. She didn't have near the amount of friends she had the year before. It wasn't their faults, it was just that she had distanced herself from just about everyone. Her joyful attitude had become one of sorrow and hatred. She was beginning to feel like she was the only one in the world who understood real pain. She shook her head. She knew that she was completely wrong, but she still couldn't help but think that.
Mandi came to the great doors leading to the grounds and opened them. She as momentarily blinded by the sun. She grimaced. She was beginning to hate the cheer and happiness she saw around her. Everything seemed to be great in the world, but her life. She sighed as she walked onto the grounds. She was going to sit down under a tree near the lake and write a song. She hadn't done that in ages, not since the summer and then it had been a very brief song. This one she hoped would be better and longer. One that would stick with her 'til the end of time.
Mandi sat down in the cool grass in the shade. She sat her guitar case down next to her and looked around. She saw so many laughing faces. So many people seemed to be enjoying the year, while she was regretting it. She sighed as she turned to her case and opened it. Inside was her acoustic guitar. It was one of her most priced possessions. She had owned it for many years and it had brought her great joy. She pulled it out and slung the strap over her arm. She pulled out her pick and began to strum the strings. She played around with D cord as she thought of some lyrics to start with. She knew if she just sang and played lyrics would soon just come to her.
Mandi sang quietly to herself as she strummed her guitar. The lyrics weren't bad, but not good either. She knew that, but she didn't care at the moment. It was how she was feeling and that was more important to her than actually getting great lyrics. She flashed through the memories of the last month as a tear slid down her cheek. She had loved her aunt so much and now she was never going to be able to have those singing sessions or those trips to the muggle malls. Everything was done and over with. Her aunt would never be the same again and neither would Mandi.

I never thought things would get this bad
I wanted my life to be perfect
But things keep getting in my way
I keep finding myself at the short end of the stick
How much can I take
Before I go insane
So much pain and heart ache
So much joy has been lost
I wanted my life to be perfect
But things keep getting in my way
I keep finding myself at the short end of the stick
How much can I take
Before I go insane
So much pain and heart ache
So much joy has been lost
