Fiona pushed her way through the hallways, laughing to herself as a first year fell to the ground. She glared down at them and continued by. She needed some fresh air and she needed to talk with Maddie. She had been having a rough time. She had been ever since her parents died, but recently she received a letter talking about her parents. She didn't know what it meant and she didn't know what to do about it. She hadn't told anyone, but she wanted to. She wasn't sure who to trust and she didn't want to bring it up to just anyone. Fiona started down the stairs and out the front door to the grounds. The sun was sinking behind the horizon and the sky was a brilliant pink, purple, blue, and orange. Fiona scoffed at the beauty of it, she didn't appreciate it and she didn't know if she ever could. Nothing would ever be beautiful again, especially since the setting sun just reminded her of another day without her parents. Another day without them looking after her; helping her become the greatest witch in the world. She slammed the door behind her as she walked down the steps.
Fiona headed for her normal spot under a tree near the lake. She had sat there many times during both sad and happy times. She remembered making some of the most important decisions of her life under that tree. Now she was determined to sort out her life with a little help from a friend. She had told Maddie to meet her there at sunset. So Maddie should be there any moment. Fiona hadn't really talked to her since the Hogwarts Express and that had been quite entertaining with their other passenger. Fiona smiled slightly, but frowned again as she looked at the lake. She had sat here last year and she had been happy then. Now she was angry at the world. Angry at what had happened to her parents. She shook her head to rid herself of the depressing thoughts and images of her parents death.
In order to distract herself, Fiona pulled out the wrinkled up parchment. The paper seemed like it had been written a while ago and had gone through a lot. She had found it on her bed recently. She knew that it had to have been delivered straight to her rather than in the morning with the other owls. The handwriting was scratched quickly across the yellowed parchment and it was a bit hard to read, but she had practically memorized it now. Looking down at it she reread the letter for about the 15th time that day:
Dear Fiona O'Reilly,
I'm writing you to tell you about your parents. I know they are dead. I have some information about them and it's very important. You will have to meet me at some point in time when you are willing to accept the fact that your parents have something powerful that they were supposed to give to the Dark Lord. You must find it for me and give it to me. It's very important and means everything to me. I will be in contact with you.
Fiona folded the piece of paper back up and stuffed it back in her pocket. She wanted to find whatever it was they were looking for, but she had no idea where to start or if they were telling the truth. Other than that, she didn't know what the letter meant and she didn't know who it was from. It hadn't been signed by anyone and she didn't know anybody with that handwriting. She didn't remember her father saying anything about some powerful item that needed to get to the Dark Lord. She didn't know whether or not to believe this guy. She sighed as she looked back at the setting sun. It had nearly disappeared now. She looked back toward the doors. Maddie should be here in moment. Fiona looked back out at the sunset and glared at the colors that seemed to surround her. The bright, cheerful colors of the world were horrible and ugly. She just wished they would leave her alone. She sighed to herself as she heard something near her.
