Lyra was bored. She gave a heavy sigh as she sat under her favorite little tree, gazing across to the lake's blue depths. It had been a particularly quiet day inside the castle so she had come outside for some commotion. To her misfortune, it was just as quiet outside as it was in. She had spent nearly the whole evening out by the lake, and had only a few small groups of fellow students pass by her. The wind grew colder and the sky had begun to cloud up in darkness. She knew it was going to rain in a few hours.
As Lyra tied on the cloak she had taken off and set aside earlier, she looked down at her bookbag that she'd brought with her. It was packed with schoolbooks, quills, ink, parchment, and her wand. Intending to get her schoolwork done outside, the lack of activity going on around her had put her out of the mood. She never liked procrastinating, but today was an exception. It was just too dull. She looked upwards at the darkening sky, considering the option of going back inside the castle and into the warm Hufflepuff common room. It seemed like a nice idea, but why hadn't she gone yet? She had suddenly realized she lacked the energy to go back in. For some reason, her mind was telling her it was easier to stay outside until dinner; she would be just as close to the Great Hall anyway.
In an attempt to fight her boredom, Lyra began to hum a tune. It was one of the songs her mother always sang to her when she was younger. She remembered exactly how it went, even the way she danced to it. Not bothering to look for anyone around her, Lyra stood up and started to dance the same graceful way she did back then. She twirled around a couples times and pranced around the tree. A few minutes later she miscalculated one of her steps and fell to the ground with a soft 'thud'. "Oof", she groaned. She hadn't even noticed she wasn't the only one who saw how 'graceful' she was.

Books. Books books books. Thats all Flo was surrounded by. Books. Flo, of course, was in the library, trying to find a good book to read. But seeing as all Flo was interested in was acting, there were hardly any books on that. Flo sighed, and picked up her bag. She had already read the book on her muggle acting class, and was really bored. She walked back into the Hufflepuff common room, and put her bag next to her bed. Then she changed her mind. She picked up her bag again, and walked outside.
Flo looked at the sky. It was a little bit bright, so she sat down on the grass, a few feet away from a little tree. She took out her book, and began to read it for the third time. As she read, a girl walked past. Flo didn't really pay attention to the people walking past, so she kept reading.
After getting to the part of her book, where it has underlined words, saying "Do not up stage!" Flo thought this was wise, as she had done a show a few years ago, one of the cast members was so busy jumping about, as the main cast were saying their lines, He forgot to say his one line, and Flo had to say it for him!!
Flo had looked up for just a second, to see the girl that walked past before, fall over. Flo got up and rushed to her. "Are you OK?" Flo asked them realizing who the girl was. "Oh, hi Lyra." Flo had known Lyra as she was in the same house and year, but they had never actually spoken.

After the fall, Lyra gently got back up from the ground and swept her school cloak off. Feeling somewhat embarassed over that incident, her pale face turned slightly red. She heard someone run over to her and a girl's voice called out to see if she was all right. Lyra turned around to face Flo, a girl she knew to be in her house and year. She was pleased to see there wasn't any Slytherins near by enough to have seen her.
"Oh hey, Flo. Yeah I'm OK, just had a little trip", Lyra said happily. Still feeling embarassed, she decided to try and change the subject quick. "I haven't seen you in awhile by the way! How's the school year been for you?" She asked. She went to sit down under the tree again, wincing as she felt her ankle twinge under her weight. "Personally, it's been dragging me down a bit...either that or I'm getting quite lazy," giggled Lyra as she pointed towards her overstuffed bag of books. "But I can't even imagine how 5th year will be, preparing for O.W.L.S. and such. Kinda scary to think about it."
Lyra shivered. It was growing colder outside as the wind picked up, yet it would still be awhile until dinner. She looked back at the lake and saw that it no longer looked as inviting as it usually had, but rather grey and silent. It made her wonder why Flo had come out in such awful weather, but she wouldn't bring this up. Besides, she was out there too.

Flo giggled as Lyra turned bright red. She followed Lyra back to the little tree, leaving her bag and book behind. Flo sat down as Lyra said she hadn't been Flo around much. This was probably because it was cold lately, and Flo would spend her days inside reading her book(over and over again) Or taking her classes. Plus the fact Flo would often hide from her brother, Tim.
As Lyra continued talking about how lazy she was getting. Flo giggled along with Lyra. Flo wondered why they hadn't spoken before. Then Lyra said how scared she was about taking her O.W.L next year. Flo had to admit, she was a little scared too. "Yes, I have wondered what it's going to be like next year. But I can't wait!" Flo shook her hands with enthusiasm.

Alarice glared daggers at her stepsister Jamie, and of course, had the daggers glared right back at her. Every feature on that perfect little face was etched with hatred, and Alarice was sure that her face was showcasing the same emotion. I cant stand this![/i Alarice thought, her heart pounding, ears drumming in her head with anger. This was the 5th fight the two had been in that week, and it wasn't getting any nicer each time. Ever since my dear old mum got remarried....... Fuming, Alarice pushed passed Jamie, and out of the Gryffindor common room. Jamie wasn't her only problem at the moment. In fact, she had a lot of problems. For one, she had just lost her best friend, Emily, in a death eater attack. This by far, was the worst yet. She hadn't spoken to anyone about it, and had basically been distancing herself from the rest of her fellow Gryffindors. Talking to them just reminded her painfully of Emily. In fact, she hadn't really talked to anyone at all this year so far. She had no desire anymore. No one could replace her best friend who had been so cruelly ripped away from her. Alarice sprinted passed the Great Hall, not wanting to be around people, and made her way out onto the castle grounds. With irritation, she noticed that her favorite spot by the lake was occupied by two Hufflepuff girls she had never spoken to before. But at that moment, she felt drawn to that special spot. It was, in fact, the place where Alarice and Emily had first met just two years ago. Alarice brushed a few strands of long sandy blond hair out of her hazel eyes, and began across the grass. Not even glancing at the girls who seemed to be in friendly conversation, Alarice slumped down 4 feet away, and buried her face in her knees.

"Oh I can't wait either!" Lyra smiled in reply to Flo. She'd been mezmerized by the thought of O.W.L.S. all year, even wanted to start studying for it now. But with all the work she was behind in already, she knew she wouldn't be able to. And besides, now was the time for fun. It was then she suddenly remembered that Flo was a Hufflepuff Cheerleader. Lyra always thought cheerleading looked fun and spontaneous, but she had never gone to any try-outs or any sort of thing like that. 'Perhaps there's still a spot or two open?' She thought.
"Say, how's the cheer team coming along? Going good, right?" Lyra asked curiously. "I've always thought cheerleading seemed fun." She remembered the cheerleading team at her old muggle school. It was a lot more plain and dull than the cheers they gave here...the muggle girls didn't even smile!
Something caught the corner of Lyra's eye and she turned to look at it. A girl, who looked to be around her and Flo's year, walked by them and sat down with her face in her knees. Lyra thought she looked upset, or even sad. This concerned her. She gave Flo a small nudge and pointed to the other girl a few feet away. "Do you think she's alright? Should we go check?" She asked. She got back up on her feet and awaited Flo's reply.

Cheerleading. That was one of the words that Flo loved. Unfortunately, Cheerleading hadn't taken off that year, and Flo had no idea what was going on. " We should be starting soon, I hope." Flo thought. Would they?
Flo stopped thinking as another girl walked past and had dropped to her knees. "Maybe..." Flo said, when Lyra asked if they should see if the girl was OK. Then Flo nodded. She didn't like seeing people upset.
