Caiest walked out towards the lake happy to be free of the confines of the castle. It wasn't that she didn't want to be there. That wasn't it at all the castle was her home her sanctuary but lately it was also her prison. She needed to get away from it all. Away from the teachers who acted like nothing was happening. Away from all the fakes who smiled as if the only thing they had to worry about was the exams that would come at the end of the year. Didn't anyone notice or care that their world was falling apart?
No she didn't think they did. Everyone kept smiling their fake smiles and everyone kept chatting with their meaningless conversations pretending that nothing could harm them. No one noticed or cared that she smiled but it wasn't real. Didn't anyone, anyone at all notice how fake everyone's smiles were now a days how much pain they covered up? She didn't think so and that made her all the more sad
She walked along the lakes edge tossing in a pebble every once in a while trying to keep her mind occupied. She wished she had her friends with her. They always did a good job of cheering her up and lately she needed all the cheering up she could get. She hadn't lost anyone to the war. She really couldn't seeing as how she never saw her parents anyway but she wished there were something she could do to help to benifit their side in anyway. And everytime she tried to think of a way to help she always realized how there wasn't a way. She was so helpless in this fight so miniscule that if she were to die not a single person would notice. Caiest sighed and tossed in the last pebble and turned to leave.

Blake had left the castle hours ago, he had no classes today and it was a nice day. Blake went right to the lake with a book in his hand and his wand in his pocket. Blake bought the book during the summer and this was his first time to be able to do any of the spells in it. He had red over the spells but couldn't do them out of the school. He found a nice open place a crossed the lake. "Hmm I guess it is kind of early." He said looking around and seeing no one around. Blake opened the book to the first spell. "Jeez you would think they would open with a spell that isn't in every book." He said noticing it from his first year spell book. He skipped the first to pages saying did it to everyone he passed.
Then he found one that he didn't do before. "This should be interesting." He said standing up at the edge of the lake. He practiced the wand movements a few times then looked back at the book. then looked back at the lake. "Avis Attaqikus." He said looking over the lake but nothing happened. ” I did the movements right, what’s wrong." He thought to himself then deciding to give it one more try. "Avis Attaqikus." He said again this time a few feathers popped out of the wand. "Well that’s better then nothing." After a few tries he finally got a full bird to fly out of his wand but it didn't fly right. "Jeez I'm going to be here all day on this spell." He said a little mad.
After an hour he sat down next to the book then lied down. He lied there looking up at the sky with an odd smile. He was to distracted to hear the foot steps or see a girl walking on the edge of the lake. "Finally got that one down and it only toke an hour." He said looking up at the clouds above. He then saw a few bird fly a crossed the sky. "You think those are one of them?" He said asking himself thinking he was alone.

Cass Blackfire was seriously starting to hate her last name. Not only was she the envy of every muggle born at the school, but she also had to endure the ridicule of most of the purebloods at the school. Kicking a large rock out of the way, she cried in frustration. She really thought this pureblood stuff would be a whole lot easier. Making it to the lake, Cass watched as what looked like mermaids dipping back into the watter. Didn't those damn Slytherins know that none of this was her fault!!
Looking ahead, she saw both Blake and Caiest in a conversation. Cass considered Caiest one of her best friends, and she knew she wasn't much of a conversationalist. However, she knew that Blake was from experience. " Hey guys," Cass dug her hands deep into her jeans. " Hey, Caiest. Where have you been? It seemed like you disappeared this summer, and Dana and I were so looking forward your visit." Cass gave her a warm, genial smile to let her friend know she was only joking.

Caiest noticed that she wasn't alone before as she turned to leave. He seemed to be in deep concentration as he tried out a spell over and over. She stayed as still as possible not wanting to bother him. She knew how much she hated it when people bothered her when she was trying to get something down. After a while he seemed satisfied with the spell and sat down before finally lying down. It was then that Caiest dared to move and she approached the boy. Why she was even going to talk him she didn't know. Caiest was pretty much a loner only talking to a few people. So why she was going to talk to a complete stranger she wasn't sure but that didn't stop her.
"Yeah that was one of yours. The ones you made had a diamond like pattern on their belly for some reason. Look close and you'll see that pattern." She said sitting down. She didn't bother asking his permission. If he didn't want her there then he could leave because she wasn't going to. She also didn't bother giving him an explanation as to how she knew about the pattern on the birds.
After a little while she heard someone else approach and looked over to see Cassandra her stomach dropped as Cassandra asked where she'd been all summer. Cassandra was one of her only and very best friends. Caiest had promised to visit both her and Dana only to go very anti social on them all. She hadn't meant to desert them and she'd had every intention of owling them to let them know she couldn't make it but forgot to. Caiest had become extremely depressed over the summer and the war hadn't helped matters any so she had cut herself off from the wizarding world almost entirely but she didn't want Cassandra to know why she'd missed out on visiting them. She would probably tell Caiest she was overreacting like Dana had the one time she got upset over something last year. "I'm so so sorry Cassandra I meant to owl you and let you know I was too busy to make it but it totally slipped my mind. Please forgive me."

Blake laid there then heard a voice say that they were his birds. He looked over to see a girl as she was explaining why they were his bird. He looked back up at the birds but they had flow to far and he couldn't see any diamond shape on them. "Hmm I didn't notice that." He said smiling then sitting up. "I don’t know how it would get that shape on them." He said thinking about how that could have happened. He wasn't focusing on any shapes just the birds. "Well anyway I'm Blake." He said looking back to her and she was already sitting down. He was going to ask what her name was but Cassandra. "Hey." He said right after she said it to them.
Then she said her name out loud and that answered his question about what her name was. Blake just said there as they talked between themselves for a few minutes, He didn't like butting into peoples conversations. "Well it has been a busy summer for a lot of people." He said looking down at his book a second then closing it.
