Myn hummed peacefully as she set her homework to one side, satisfied that she had done the best she could and just happy to get it out of the way. Homework was generally somewhat interesting but that was one piece of homework that Myn was completely happy to get rid of and forget about. The breeze from the open window in the dorm sent the piece of parchment fluttering to the floor and Myn glared at the window irritably, feeling her barely good mood turn sour and evaporate. Nothing ever seemed to go right for more than a day or two before things went wrong and Myn was sick of it; sick of everything. A loud yell from the common room could be heard in the dorms and Myn winced, rubbing her head gently and transferring her glare to the door. Why couldn't people learn that silence could sometimes be a good thing? "Shut up; shut up; shut up!" The words were whispered into Myn's pillow harshly before the pillow was flung at the wall bad-temperedly.
The young child sat up slowly, rubbing her eyes and blinking dazedly. A quick glance at the watch on Myn's wrist showed that she had been asleep for a few hours and that there was only an hour and a half before curfew but she still rolled off the bed and onto her feet wearily. Maybe an hour in the Courtyard, enjoying the fresh air and letting herself relax, would put her in a better mood and soothe the restlessness in her soul that seemed to have appeared from nowhere. Myn yawned quietly and covered her mouth politely before changing her sleep-rumpled clothes into an old pair of jeans and a blue top and brushing her hair, wincing whenever the brush snagged on tangled hair. The young Ravenclaw walked through the common room almost silently, smiling at the few students who acknowledged her, and slipped through the corridors noiselessly, keeping an eye out for Filch or his cat. It might not be curfew yet but she knew, both from rumours and experience, that Filch was only too happy to fling students into detention for even the smallest reason.
The water in the fountains reflected Myn's image, showing a distorted version of a young girl with a frown and clearly unhappy eyes. Myn rubbed a hand over her eyes roughly and attempted a smile, looking into the water to see a slightly happier reflection and grinning. Sometimes...sometimes just a pretense was enough for a little while. It may not solve every problem and it certainly wouldn't solve a problem for a long time but it could sometimes be a short-time solution and right now, that was enough for Myn. The tune she had previously been humming was now hummed again, this time with a distinctly better mood and easier acceptance when the tune suddenly went wrong or off-key. Nothing was always right and the sooner that was learned the better. Myn turned around as she heard a quiet thump that she quickly identified as footsteps. The figure was instantly recognized and greeted with a smile. "Katie-May."
