Myn flicked through the book boredly and looked out the window. The lack of students by one part of the lake caught her eye. She stood up decisively, bored with the emptiness of her dorm and hating being alone in there, the other people from her dorm having already left to join their friends. She ran a hand through her brown hair to smooth it and fixed it in place with a red clip. Myn threw her Ravenclaw robe onto the bed carelessly and quickly changed into a black skirt and green top, her favourite colours. She grabbed her notebook and practically ran out of the dorm, almost crashing into three students on her way. The courtyard always intrigued Myn, the way the students flocked to the sunny parts but avoided the shadowed places. She couldn't understand why shadows seemed to repel people when she loved to sit and write, surrounded by shadows.
Her eyes moved across the chatting and laughing students, hoping for inspiration. She smiled when her eyes landed on a boy and a girl arguing, the boy had been caught with another girl she guessed, piecing together the snippets of yelling that reached her ears. Her head bent over her notebook as inspiration finally struck, partly from the arguing couple but also from the other groups of people, whether they were laughing, talking or studying. Myn's eyes narrowed in annoyance when she realised that she had forgotten her quill. "Idiot!" she berated herself quietly. The sound of footsteps had her jumping up and spinning around to see who had interrupted her.

It actually was a good day for Tobias; he walked down the stairs happy for some reason. It was rare he was happy for no reason or happy at all. Most days he walked around just waiting to go back to sleep but today seemed like it was going to be good, he always had a sense for things like that. He made it out to the court yard and looked around; he didn't feel like being inside. He started to walk around hearing bits and pieces of people’s conversations as he walked by. He kept walking till he noticed he always walked into a girl on the floor. Judging by her size she had to be a first or second year.
He heard her say something that sounded like idiot before she jumped up and spinned around to look at him. He just smiled he guessed he must have surprised her or something. "First years are always so jumpy." He said laughing a little then smiling. "Hi I'm Tobias and you my jumpy friend would be?" He said looking at her still smiling. He liked hanging out with all the years but mostly the younger ones sometimes because they were so much fun to talk to.
(sorry it's a little late.)

Myn smiled sheepishly and rubbed the bridge of her nose in embarrassment. She dropped her notebook on the floor and looked up at the older boy. "Hey. I'm Myn." She introduced herself politely, hating the distant tone she used.
Myn sat back down, shoving her notebook into the black bag next to her. Her eyes narrowed thoughtfully as she tried to guess his year. He looked too old to be a second or third year and she knew he wasn't a first year. He looked too young to be in seventh year. She shrugged, deciding to give up her game and actually pay attention to him.
Her fingers brushed against a twig and she grabbed it gratefully, starting to twirl it between her fingers. She never knew how to deal with strangers and usually sat in silence until they went away. Probably why she had few friends, even when she lived in the muggle world. Myn studied the boy standing before her. He seemed friendly. 'Go on... talk to him...I highly doubt that he'll bite you. If he does....bite him back.' Myn blinked at that thought, wondering why her conscience wanted her to bite people.
"S-so...uh...what house are you in?" Myn winced at her stuttering and rolled her eyes at her choice of conversation. 'Of all the topics in the world', her conscience needled her sarcastically, 'you could've just asked why the hell he was sitting with you when he probably has lots of friends waiting for him.'

Tobias kept smiling; he could tell she seemed a little embarrassed. Then she said her name and sat down again, Tobias looked down at her. "Mind if I sit down with you?" He said looking down but before he could let her say anything he sat down next to her. He looked around to see the people she must have seen before fighting about something. He could hear them before but couldn't make out the words. Then Myn asked what house he was in and he smiled and looked over. "I'm in Gryffindor." he said going back to looking at the people. Pretty soon he looked back over at her. "So what house are you in?" He looked over at her waiting for her to answer.
(Sorry its short next one will be longer.)

Myn grinned at him, thankful that he didn't laugh at her for acting so nervous. Most people would and generally did, she mused, happy to find someone who wouldn't. She nodded slightly when he said he was in Gryffindor, half-remembering him, maybe she'd seen him in the corridors? "Ravenclaw." She rolled her eyes in amusement, "I don't actually know why the sorting hat put me there. I'm not really clever and while I enjoy reading, I find fiction more interesting then textbooks." Myn smiled when she noticed him staring at the arguing couple. "Loud aren't they? From what I heard before, he was caught with another girl." Her eyes twinkled with laughter, "I'm guessing that she didn't believe his excuse about the girl being his cousin." She sank in to silence again, realising that she'd been rambling and felt grateful that she'd managed to shut herself up before she started talking about the grass or something equally ridiculous. ((Don't worry about it. To quote all teachers and otherwise annoying people: "quality not quantity". Of course the teachers then demand a ten page essay but...teachers are teachers. Great, now I'm rambling. Shutting up now. ))

He looked back at Myn when she started to talk again. "Most people don't know why they are placed into they're house at first. Well besides the Slytherins of course we all know why they’re in that house, so we can keep them in the basement." He said laughing. He kept looking then she explained what the couple seemed to have been and still are fighting about. He then started to laugh again, that had to be the dumbest excuse he had heard in all of his life. But then he guess if they were just walking together that might work but if the two were kissing or something that would just be very strange.
"I could think of a better excuse in my sleep." He said looking at them. He kept looking at them then looked over at Myn. "So what were you up to? Spying on people?" He said meaning it as a joke. "So what are you really out here for?"
(Talk as much as you want I don't mind.)

Myn nodded thoughtfully, taking his words about most people not knowing why they were in their house to heart. She smiled, no longer feeling so isolated from the rest of the school, then started laughing at the comment about the Slytherins. She nodded in agreement. "Most of them don't seem to be friendly, but a few of them have to be, surely. Not everyone in a house can be evil, its against human nature." She tilted her head thoughtfully, "of course there is that argument about nature or nurture influencing behaviour so I guess it could be possible..."
She lifted an eyebrow when he said that he could come up with a better excuse in his sleep. "Oh," she drawled teasingly, "you're used to making excuses for upsetting girls then?" She grinned, hoping that he would take it as the joke that she meant it as and not be offended.
Myn drifted in to thought, contemplating whether nurture or nature was more infuential towards human behaviour, only coming back to reality when Tobias started to speak to her again. "Oh, I come out here to get inspiration." She gestured to the arguing couple, "people like them, silly arguments but with emotion involved. They give me inspiration to write when I can't get the inspiration from my own life."

He just smiled listening to her talk. "Well I'm pretty sure they're all mean that’s why there put into that house and if there is a nice one I haven't met them yet. But it could be possible I guess." He said smiling looking over at her. "But it just sounds weird saying that a nice Slytherin just sounds weird." He said repeating himself at the end. Tobias looked back over at the couple fighting and watched them as they kept going at it. Then he looked back over at Myn when she started to talk again and when she was done he just laughed.
"No not all, just the cute ones." He said smiling meaning it as a joke. "I just mean that if I had to I could have thought of a better one then that." He said looking over at the couple again. "But the only thing I really make excuses for is late work I didn't do for class or something like that." He then listened to her as she talked about why she had been out here watching them fight. "Well have you come up with anything yet?

Myn shook her head at his prejudice against the Slytherins, most probably deserved his doubtful attitude but not all. She refused to believe that the whole house was bad. "No, the sorting hat said that Slytherins are cunning, not evil. Cunning doesn't mean evil. Pranksters are cunning, they have to be if they don't want to get caught. Does that make them evil?"
She grinned at him, "not doing your work for class?" She shook her head in mocking surprise, "I thought you older people were meant to set an example to the younger students. "
Myn gestured towards her bag and sighed, "not yet, I thought of something but I didn't have a quill or a pen to write it down with. I guess I'll have to try to remember it later. I usually can but sometimes I'll be trying for days and then give up on it." She hesitated for a few seconds, then spoke again. "You can see a finished one if you want to."
Myn blinked in astonishment, she never let even her parents see her work and now she was offering them to a complete stranger? 'If he laughs at you then its your own fault,' her conscience said maliciously, 'you know what happened last time anyone saw them...' She winced, remembering exactly what her friend had said about them. She was still wary of opening herself up to rejection again but she had to get over it sometime, right?
((The things that Myn is talking about are poems, do you want me to actually include one if you choose to see them or not?))

Tobias Smiled as she kept talking. "Well you could be right, but if there is one then I haven't met or seen one yet." He said looking down at her. Then she started to talk again and he kept listening then laughed at what she said. "Setting an example?" he said still laughing. "Well I try, that should count for something shouldn't it?" He asked smiling down at her. He looked back and the couple started to move away a bit still fighting. "They sure can go at it." He said looking over wondering what it would like to be in a fight like that. He didn't want to be in one but still it must be an interesting argument to make.
Tobias listened to her explain why she was out here and then offered to let him read some of the things she had written, Tobias smiled. "Sure, if it’s ok with you." He said looking back at her.
(Sorry it toke so long school is annonying. And you can include one if you want.)

Myn nodded. "Sure, trying is good." She grinned wryly, "I can't imagine being old enough to be asked to set an example. It would be too strange. Having so much influence on somebody's life..."
She laughed at the arguing couple, wondering how they could argue for so long about something so trivial. "They certainly do argue a lot. If only the poor boy had made a better excuse, we might not be subjected to the torture of listening to them. Then again, he should've been clever enough to not get caught."
Myn reached into her bag for the notebook slowly, hand shaking nervously, terrified of another rejection. She put her heart and soul into her work, having people laugh at it was like being rejected as a person. She flicked through the book, finally stopping on one of the more recent poems. "I wrote this for my cousin. She's afraid of the dark.
The darkness envelopes me, Eyes stare out at me, Orange, gold, silver, red, The monster is hiding under the bed, Tears trickle down my face, My sanity has been replaced, With irrational fears, At night even walls have ears, Fears solidify, Become reality, I might not make it through the night, Pressed against the wall in fear, Waiting for dawn to arrive, Only the sun can chase the monsters away."
Myn shut the book silently and looked down at the grass. Her beathing slowed, almost stopped, waiting anxiously for his reaction.
((School certainly is annoying, so much work and so little interest. Quick question: what did you think of the poem? I wrote it in about two minutes so I know it won't be that good but I'm always interested in other peoples opinions.))

Tobias smiled listening to her as she talked. "Well I'm not the type to be setting examples for people. If I did a lot less Gryffindors would have good grades." He said laughing then listening to her talk again. "He shouldn't have needed to be caught in the first place." Tobias always found something wrong with cheating on someone, well it was wrong but he just didn't think it was right in anyway to the other person but it wasn't like him to meddle in other peoples affairs she he just ignored it.
Soon she pulled out her book again and read a poem from it. Tobias had to admit it was pretty good. Better then anything he could have thought up. After she was done he smiled looking down at her. "That was great, I’m kind of glad I don’t wrote poems myself. I would feel pretty bad about mine after hearing that." He said knowing it was true, he tried to write some poems once but they all were so bad. “But I think I would be even more afraid of the dark after hearing that."

Myn nodded in agreement. "True, he shouldn't have needed to be caught but humans do stupid things. Its human nature." A slight smile appeared on her face, humans did do stupid things but apparently reading him one of her poems had not been one of the stupid things. He was nice, didn't talk down to her like so many others in older years did. Myn shook her head in mild protest. "No, anyone can write poems. Its just a matter of getting inspired by someone or something and transferring the words on to paper."
She grinned devilishly at his comment about being even more afraid after hearing it. "Well, I didn't say that I liked the cousin, did I? No, I didn't actually read it to my cousin, I don't usually read them to anyone. She just gave me the inspiration to do it." She glanced over at the once arguing couple, the two now heading in different directions. "I rather think that my next one will be about idiots. Idiots and the stupidity of humanity."
