Rain (Leah)

"Come on Derrick lets go to the park" Derrick's mother yelled out. "I'm coming I'm coming." He said slipping a red shirt and lose fitting jeans. Stumbling down the stairs he squinted in the bright sunlight. "Come on Derrick" He heard his mother yell but this time farther away. "Where are you" Derrick asked threw the blinding white light "I am right here he heard her mummer barley able to hear her now. Straining his eyes he saw nothing but white. Turning around he saw something in the distance but wasn't sure what it was. Walking towards it he gained speed into a light jog. Anticipation filled his body as he got closer.

Sitting up in his bed Derrick groaned slightly, he was actually upset because he didn't get to see what the object was. Most of his dreams ended like this, him wanting to now what something was and then he would wake up right before. Shaking his head in disappointment he looked out the window. Oh, lovely he thought to himself sarcastically, it is raining my favorite. Derrick hated rain because that meant he had to stay cooped up inside all day. He was an outside person every minute he wasn't in class or eating he was outside.

Watching as the heavy rain fell he remembered how his mother used to build an indoor fort whenever it was raining so they could play and to keep him entertained. He was always the captain of the fort and she was the evil genius trying to take over. He usually won but every once in a while she would win a victory. Smiling at this memory he lifted the blankets off his body and slowly got up. Looking over at the window as he heard a little tapping noise he saw his black owl Starburst. Raising an eyebrow slightly he quickly walked over to the window and opened it. As his little owl hopped in the room she cooed gleefully shacking off. His owl was the complete opposite from him. She loved the rain; she loved any type of water actually.

Gently untying the scroll attached to her lag she threw an owl treat next to her and sat back down on his bed. Opening it up to see who wrote it too him he was not surprised to find his mothers neat loopy handwriting on it. Rolling it back up planning to read it latter her opened his trunk and Pulled out a long white t-shirt and loose fitting cackie jeans. Pulling his Jeans over his boxers and his shirt over his bare tan chest he shivered a little as a breeze blew in from the window. Quickly he walked over to shut it. Walking once over to his bed he grabbed his notebook and walked down the stairs of the common room.

As he walked he saw the rain stop to a steady drizzle and his spirits rose ever so slightly. Deciding to go to the court yard for a bit since it seemed to stop raining he threw his notebook in his backpack and started jogging outside. On the way there he saw a few people he new and gave a friendly wave not really wanting to stay and chat. As he entered the court yard he looked around for a dry spot to sit and as he walked he wasn't paying attention to where he was going and before he new what happened he and someone else fell to the ground. Looking to see who he hit he said sincerely "Oops sorry about that. Hanging his hand towards the person to help them up he waited for a response.

Leah was up in her bed looking at the pouring rain outside. She loved rain, well most the time. This time she didn't like it. It was a beautiful day in the courtyard until a grey cloud floated over. My god , when will it end? It seemed hours of waiting to go outside. Leah loved the outdoors. Usually when it rained at her house, she would twirl around outside.

That's it I'm going.Leah walked through the corridor until she reached the huge doors. Leah walked outside in the courtyard. It was deserted until a flash of wind ripped by. Somebody had bumped into her. Leah lost her balance and fell. Ouch.. Aww dang it. Well only a cut. Awell. Leah looked up and the boy that knocked her over was offering a hand. Leah took it because she needed a boost up.

" So it looks like people hate the rain." Leah said while looking at the boy. Hmm.. Cool a Hufflepuff, and he's a third year too. Leah sat next to the boy on the only dry piece of ground she could see. Finally the rain cleared out, and the sun came out. The courtyard got crammed again. " We haven't been introduce now have we. I'm Leah, what's your name?" Leah asked while holding a hand out. Leah waited for a response.

He was kind of relieved that the girl took his hand because he didn't want too tick someone off today. He usually wouldn't care but he wasn't in the mood for drama today. Lightly pulling her up he realized she was quite light. "Sorry about that" He said with an embarrassed smile "I swear I wasn't trying to kill you" He said this time jokingly. Looking up at the sky he sighed, why did it have to be such a crappy day couldn't it just be a sunny beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky?

Turning his attention back to the girl he asked in a curious voice "What brings you out on a day like this?" Why would anyone want to come outside in this weather besides him? He only came outside because he was a nature bug and loved being outside. Shaking theses thoughts out of his head he snapped his attention back to the girl as she said "So it looks like people hate the rain." Smiling slightly because that was the exact thought that had just run threw his head he said with a genuine smile "Yah, t sure seems that way doesn’t it."

I wonder what house she is in Derrick thought to himself. She is way to kind to be a Slytherin and there is now way she is in Hufflepuff or I would recognize her. Deciding that she was either a Gyffindor or Ravenclaw he listened as she said "We haven't been introducing now have we. I'm Leah, what's your name?"."No, we haven't, I'm Derrick Kennel Hufflepuff third year." He said smiling. He seemed to be smiling a lot today which was weird since he was usually in a bad mood when it rained.

" I know you weren't trying to kill me silly." Leah said while giggling. Leah started getting into a conversation with the boy. He said his name was Derrick. " Well , I'm in Gryffindor. I'm a third year too." Leah said while looking at him. " Your pretty funny. I can be funny when i don't mean it." Leah said. " One time when I was little , I locked myself in a closet on accident." Leah said while laughing.

" Well the sky cleared up." Leah said while looking up. " Hey, look! It's my owl lightning! Here boy!",Leah said while Lighting flew on her shoulder. " Do you have a pet?" Leah asked Derrick. Leah looked at her soaked snowy owl. Lightning pecked at her shoulder. " Ouch! Lightning! Did you she what he did? ' Leah asked. " Get out of here you owl!" Leah told her owl. Lightning flew away up in a tree. " What a naughty little thing isn't he?" Leah said.

"You're pretty funny. I can be funny when I don't mean it one time when I was little; I locked myself in a closet on accident." Leah said while laughing." Leah said. Derrick blushed slightly at her compliment, he wasn't used to being complemented so it was kind of weird but he liked it all the same. Laughing at her comment about locking herself in the closet he said "I also once locked myself in a closet on accident and was stuck there for an hour because no one was home. I felt like such an idiot!"

It was true one year on summer break Derrick's parents had gone to a part and he wasn't feeling well so he stayed home. A hour or two after his parents left Derrick walked into there closet and he shut the door behind him and a chair somehow feel against the door so he was stuck inside the closet. His parents didn't get home for another hour or so and when they did they thought it was the funniest thing in the world, they still to this day make fun of him for it.

Looking back up towards the girl named Leah as she said "Well the sky cleared up." Looking up he saw it had but he also saw something flying towards them. He didn't say anything but he watched as it flew closer and closer until he realized it was an owl "Hey, look! It's my owl lightning, here boy!" Derrick heard Leah say. What a cool name for a owl he thought to himself. He watched as the owl landed gently on her shoulder and responded to her question "Yea, I also have a owl her name is starburst."

Derrick smiled slightly enjoying there conversation. He watched as the little snowy owl pecked her on the shoulder. He watched amusedly as she asked him if he saw that "Sure, did he might be naughty but at least yours doesn't come and wake you up at five a clock in the morning everyday in the summer like mine" He responded laughing.

" Wow, well someone was home at the time I locked myself in a closet ,but they never heard me so i got stuck in there for only a hour. But when my little sister opened the door, i was leaning the door too. Then I fell on top of her." Leah said while laughing. " What else did you do that was funny?" Leah asked. She had never laughed as hard as this. " What does your parents work as? My dad used to be an auror until he got hurt in the attack. And my mom is his healer in St.Mungo's." Leah said." Luckily my dad woke up from the coma he was in, but he doesn't remember anything including me." Leah said. " At least he woke up from that coma, eh?" Leah asked. " Do you have a broomstick?" Leah asked. She was curious about people she just met so she asked alot of questions to them.

" What do you want to do?" She asked Derrick. " What time is it ?" Leah asked while looking at her watch. " Wow it's already noon!" Leah said while being surprised. Leah saw a flash of white and black in the sky. " What's that?" Leah asked Derrick because she had been looking at the sun. Where ever she looked there was green spots blocking her view. The white owl landed on her shoulder and the black landed on Derrick's. Finally the spots cleared up from Leah's view. " Is that Starburst?" Leah asked while looking at the black owl. " It looks like they made friends too." Leah said while looking at Lightning.

Wow, well someone was home at the time I locked myself in a closet, but they never heard me so I got stuck in there for only an hour. But when my little sister opened the door, I was leaning the door too. Then I fell on top of her what else did you do that was funny?" Derrick heard Leah laugh as she said this and laughed along with her. Derrick was very much enjoying this conversation, looking up into the now sunny sky he thought. What else did he do that was funny? The real question was when did the list end. Looking back at Leah he said "Well once when I was eight I ate a dog treat thinking that it was a brownie but the sad thing was I just thought that it was a bad brownie or something my step mom was laughing too hard to tell me at first that it was a dog treat." He remembered this as though it was yesterday, he had walked into the kitchen and there was what looked like a bug black brownie sitting on the table and like every other normal eight year old he picked it up and stuck it in his mouth.

It had to be one of the worst tasting thing he had ever eaten in his life besides cooked beats which he hated with a passion. Shaking his head slightly at this memory he looked back at Leah as she asked what his parents did. "Well my step mom is a journalist and her boyfriend is a Auror." Looking at Leah he said sincerely I am very sorry to here that. ". Smiling at Leah he noticed how pretty she was looking and he blushed slightly. Hopping that she hadn't saw him blush he answered to her question "Ya, I do it is a firebolt do you?".

"I don’t care what we do as long as I am around you" Derrick said and froze. Did he just say what he thought he said? Turning back to her he said blushing "I mean I don’t really feel like being by myself today. Hoping she didn't think he was a complete idiot he waited for a response.

Leah suddenly froze when she heard Derrick's comment on her question. " You like me don't you" Leah said while blushing and smirking." You lucky boy, I only have a Nimbus 2001. What do you want to do while being around me." Leah said. Leah was blushing harder this now. Her cheeks were hot pink now. Plus they were burning like fire too.

All the sudden Leah had a sudden burst of confidence." I kinda like you." Leah said. What was going on with her? She had just met the boy and now had a crush on him? Leah just looked at Derrick and slowly smiled. I guess I got a crush on him. . Leah had the sun burning on her pink cheeks, which made them red now. Leah saw as Derrick day dreamed while looking at her. When Leah day dreamed of again Derrick took hold of her hand, or it could be her day dream, but it felt real.

"You like me don't you". He heard Leah say. Feeling his cheeks blush red hot he thought to himself smooth Derrick real smooth. "You lucky boy, I only have a Nimbus 2001. What do you want to do while being around me." Looking up at her as she said this he couldn't help but laugh. He couldn't help but admire the way she took an uncomfortable conversation and made it a little more relaxed. Looking her straight in the eye he said do you just want to walk for a while?" Staring at the ground for a minute his head shot up as Leah said unexpectedly that she liked him also.

Looking at her in disbelief at first he just stood there then out of the blue he took her hand and said "Want to walk for a little bit?". Leading her away from the tree Derrick waited for her to say something because he wasn't sure of what to talk about and forgot that he was still holding onto he hand

Derrick did take her hand. " Sure, where do you want to walk to?" Leah asked while slowly holding his hand too. " Do you want to go to the grounds where it's less crowded?" Leah asked. " Oh, I heard you live next to a girl named Melissa. I'm going to be staying with her over the summer by the way." Leah said to him hoping to make the conversation a little more comfortable.

Will we be a couple? She was very nervous. He was the first boy she had ever liked and he liked her back. How long have we been talking? What time is it? Leah looked at her watch. It was only 10:02 a.m. " Did you know it's only 10:00 a.m?" Leah asked. Leah was acting like an idiot while looking side to side. Her hair was whipping in her face. Ouch, maybe I should stop.

"Sure, where do you want to walk to? Do you want to go to the grounds where it's less crowded?" He heard Leah say. "Um… sure that sounds good." He felt his nervousness slip away as he continued to walk and remarked "Yes, Mel is my neighbor but I don’t think we have really ever talked that much. You are staying over at her house for the whole summer?" He hoped he wasn't being too nosy but he was generally interested in what was going on in her life." Squinting slightly as he looked up in the sky he saw a blue jay dart to a tree and smiled. He loved birds and this was one of his favorite types besides owls.

I wonder if she is as nervous as I am Derrick thought to himself. He was nervous but at the same time he was relaxed because he was by her. Glancing at her sideway he asked "So what would you say is your favorite color?" He new this was a very random question but he didn't mind he liked to now what peoples likes and dislikes were. Derrick smiled as Leah remarked it was only 10:00. It felt like it had only been a couple minutes. "Really?" He remarked "I thought it was only like nine in the morning" Watching as Leah's hair blew everywhere he asked "Would he like to walk around the lake?"
