Cold days are too often! Heidi Boswell whispered in her mind, shivering inside. She was frozen solid, with a red nose and constant sneezes. She and her friends had tried all of the counter-cold charms, but not succeeded. “Achoo!” Heidi yelped. Several other first years she didn’t recognise chuckled at her and she scowled at them, sneering as they turned away foolishly.
Still sneezing, Heidi headed out of the Great Hall though not before taking a long drink of Pumpkin Juice. Her mother told her it was great for colds and she always trusted her mother, knowing her intentions were always good for her daughter, if not for others. Almost scampering down the steps into the Courtyard though not fast enough to trip, Heidi caught her image in one of the large, clean windows set deep into the cold castle walls of Hogwarts. Her hair was at its natural state- falling in beautiful red curls to her shoulder, with tiny flicks all over. Her deep green eyes were, other than her scarlet hair, the only main colour points shown in the window reflection. As it was cold Heidi’s skin was pale, almost chalky, and she scowled at it as goose-bumps appeared on her wrists. As it was cold, Heidi wore a warm, black wool jumper against her ashen skin with a cream coloured jacket over the top. On her legs she wore a pair of simple black jeans, tucked into two cream boots which kept her feet just at the right temperature, even if her ears weren’t.
As she headed towards her usual stone bench beside the large willow tree and the little grey fountain, Heidi’s figure was cloaked for a moment in a shadow. She glanced up momentarily, and although most people would have ducked at that point as the huge eagle passed overhead, Heidi merely stretched out one slender arm, smiling as her eagle landed perfectly upon the cream jacket. Aithne was her closest friend and Heidi knew the eagle wouldn’t hurt her- and vice versa. Smiling at her owl with blue lips as she sat on the bench, the red-haired Slytherin took from her bag a tiny book, with a coat of white leather. It was her ‘doodle’ book, where she drew highly random pictures or things of importance in her life. On the first page lay several cartoon pictures of Aithne, while further on rested coiled cartoon snakes and sketches of deadly, black birds in a clear blue sky. Turning to a clean page and sneezing once again, Heidi began to scribble away with the tiny white pencil clenched in her hand. Every few moments she sneezed loudly, causing several owls overhead to flee and Aithne to blink.

Alarice walked slowly through the chilly cooridoors in search of a way to spend her empty afternoon. She couldnt find Sephora, or any of her other friends, so she had decided to just wander around the castle and search for something to do.
Al's reddish brown hair was tied back in a loose, messisly done ponytail, and she wore no makeup on her slightly freckled face. She just didnt feel like getting ready that morning, she was too tired. She had been feeling tired a lot lately. Alarice rarely wore makeup however, she never really had. She didnt need it, besides, she wasnt much of a girly girl. Perhaps that had come from her lack of money to spend on makeup and cloths and things of that sort? She glanced down at what she was wearing that moment: a pair of grey holey jeans and a white hooded zip up sweater, her gryffindor robes over the ensamble to keep her warm. Nothing special, yet comfortable, and that was how she liked to dress. Most of the time.
Alarice made a turn and came out into the hallway that led into the courtyard. She decided to go sit out there, and maybe catch up on some of her homework. She made her way over to the last open bench, next to a younger student whom she had never seen around before, and slung off her jean side backpack. Jeez its cold out here! She thought as she pulled out her potions book and began to write her essay on the wolfsbane potion. Well, she had tried anyway. The girl beside her kept sneezing, and it kept causing every animal within the vincity to scutter (if thats a word) off into the bushes or fly away. After about 10 minutes of this, Alarice decided to say something. "Are you alright?" She asked the girl with vivid red curls. She turned herself on the bench so that the two were facing eachother. Just by looking at the girls face, Alarice could tell that it had been a stupid question. Her lips were blue, she was shivering, and her face was pale white. "You dont look to good. Your lips are blue" She commented conversationally. Alarice had a problem with holding her tounge. She was at times almost too outspoken. At times she offended people with her remarks, but most of them she didnt mean as an offense, or to hurt others feelings. She just--spoke what was on her mind. Hence the term, outspoken. She watched the girls face for any sign of emotion, and waited for a reply.

It wasn’t long after doodling a picture of her house’s crest that Heidi noticed someone nearby. She glanced up momentarily, seeing a Gryffindor who seemed to be almost sitting on her upon the bench. She raised her eyebrows calmly and looked the girl over. A third year, she looked like, wearing clothes which would more likely be called rags than anything else. Heidi maliciously gave the third year a setting glance before turning back to her doodling. She had finished the crest and now drew a single blue snake, curling over and over a long branch from a tree she had earlier drawn. The tree was one large picture and held in its branches everything which meant something in Heidi’s life. A bluebell was poking from one bird’s nest, symbolising her mother who loved the flowers and always smelt of the slight scent they gave off. In another corner of branch hung a broomstick, carefully sketched with all the bristles showing. It was half-falling from the largest, thickest branch but didn’t look like was about to descend to the grey grass below. An equally grey eagle rested on the tallest part of the tree. Its wings were open and the tiny, sharp eyes which Heidi had drawn in seemed to stare at the looker of the page, wherever they stood. The feathers of the bird were perfectly in place and as Heidi smiled at the perfect image of Aithne then looked up at the reality bird; she noticed one small thing missing from the sketch. Bending over the picture with her pencil tight in her hand she carefully nudge lead to place to make a tiny hook-scar beneath the eagle’s left eye. Heidi didn’t know how the proud creature got the scar, and since it didn’t seem to harm Aithne’s view at all she left it alone.
Once the hook was in place Heidi noticed the annoying Gryffindor had spoken. She glanced up again with a sigh, coughing over her shoulder once. “My lips like to be blue, at least they don’t look as bad as that filth you call clothes.” She gestured with a calm hand to the girl’s hoodie, sneering. “And what exactly is it to you if I am alright or not?” Her face stayed calm as she spoke, pale, slender cheeks moving up as she talked. Who was the girl to ask her how she was? Nosy people were to many in the world, Heidi thought with a shake of her head as she glanced back down at the paper, shading in the snake’s tail deftly.

Alarice sighed as the girl made a rude and unpleasant comment concerning her clothes. "I don't have much money to buy nice things, but I wouldnt necessarily call these rags. They certainly arent that bad." Alarice responded lightly, deciding to brush the comment off. Did it really matter what she had on? Well, maybe to Slytherin as this girl certainly must be, but to decent folks it really didnt.
Alarice raised an eyebrow at the girls second remark and let a smile spread across her lips. Goodness, what an unpleasant girl! Was it really that much of a hassle to say 'I'm fine' instead? Did she really have to take up an attitude so quickly? "Sorry for asking, next time I'll try not to bother you." Al replied sarcastically, glancing down at the sketch in the girls lap. What really caught her eye was the drawing of the owl. It looked nearly exact to the one resting beside her that very moment.
"Nice drawings. The owl is amazing." Al complimented, not really expecting a thankyou, especially from this girl, but still the work deserved credit. Alarice sketched some herself, but she was more into doing scenery, especially of the mountains in the distance of Hogwarts, and an occasional sunset. But she preferred to sketch rainy days opposed to sunshine. It was so much more interesting, and held so much more mystery. "Your quite an artist." Al said, her hazel eyes wandering over the rest of the drawing.
((sorry its not very long, ive been very busy lately but the next one will be longer, i promise.))

Heidi smiled a little as the girl spoke. For a Gryffindor like this one she liked the girl's attitude- firstly fairly friendly, but adjusting quickly. Heidi nodded slightly, red hair folding over as she did so. She wasn't really nodding to the Gryffindor, mostly to herself. As the picture was noticed, Heidi narrowed her eyes sharply. She hated people looking at her pictures- she didn't draw too much and usually the only good ones when she did were of her agle, as the current was. When the Gryffindor looked at the picture Heidi had to surpress an almost snake-like hiss. She scowled at the girl, hand covering the tree protectively.
"Thank you, I suppose. Please do not poke that rather long nose of yours into my business. I do not like people looking at my sketches and you just about fit into that catagory, though barely." She watched as Aithne also cast an unapprooving eye to the Gryffindor. "And I suppose I'm not so good, as you have mistaken my proud eagle for a common owl. I don't expect Aithne would have liked that, please do not be so careless once more." She smiled in mock delight, then continued doodling. Now and then she let out a sharp, hard cough which seared her throat painfully and once or twice made her shudder. Her eyes were constantly narrowed from the pain and a short frown could be seen on her forehead as she concentrated through her pain.
She now began to add to the tree, tiny little patterns which meant nothing but were completely random. She drew little swirls and a few stars here and there. Once done drawing a few or more of each around the large, blossoming leaves, she took from the bag she had brought along three pencils- one was a dark, deep red almost the colour of blood. Heidi set this one aside as she then brought from the bag a musty orange one, with a sharp lead. Lastly came an odd colour. At one glance it seemed purple, at another dark blue-red. All three were charmed not to loose lead and to stay sharp. Heidi scanned all before picking up the orange, and began to shade in the background behind the tree. She didn't usually draw colours pictures but felt like it this particular, frozen day. ((It's fine))

"Okay, okay, understandable." Alarice said a little defensively to the Slytherin as she quickly lashed out at her for complimenting her work. Alarice didnt like others looking at her sketches either, she had actually only shown a few people before. She mostly kept them to herself because most were so personal. She was like that with her music as well, and wasnt to fond on sharing that with others. She guessed that this girl was like that as well and she guessed that was fine. But for goodness sakes, it was it such a big deal that she had "mistaken" the girls proud eagle for a common owl?
Alarice watched as the girl, her eyes narrowed in almost a scowl, coughed painfully a few times, and continued her drawing, sheilding it slightly from Al all the while. Amused at the girls obvious disgust with her, Alarice reached into her bag and pulled out a tissue. "Need it?" She offered in an almost fake sweet voice. "Oh, I have cough drops too, if your throat is sore! And I could whip you up some hot cocoa if you want, I know a spell!" She knew the girl wouldnt accept the tissue or the throat lasenges or the drink, why would she? To her, Al was probably just a filthy mudblood like most Slytherins veiwed any individual who was not in their own house or who was not a pureblood. Al wasnt exactly sure that this girl was like that as well, but she was a heck of a good candidate. Why were all Slytherins like that? Al thought with a small sigh, though it really wasnt that much of a bother to her. She just kept her distance, worried about her own life and problems, and didnt really associate with the other side. But still, she couldnt help but wish that Slytherins and Gryffindors could just get along. What was the difference between the two anyway? Purity of blood? Who really cares? Actually, the difference is probably the foul attitude that most Slytherins tend to carry around. Alarice thought waiting to be shouted at by the first year for her mocking.
