Sadie had finished all of her studies and was now looking for something to do, or even someone to talk too. She had been at Hogwart's all holiday, and had kept up with everything that had needed to be done. She had even gotten in a little flying practice on her new Nimbus 2000. Sadie had never realized how much she enjoyed flying until she had practiced over the holiday. Sadie wondered if there was anyone that she knew in the common room.
Sadie made her way through the castle and into the Hufflepuff Common Room. Not seeing anyone she knew in the area, she headed up to the dorms to grab her cloak and decided a walk in the Courtyard would be nice. She had no need to change into warmer clothes for she was already adoned in a beautiful yellow and black sweater-dress, with black and white striped leggings under it. She had worn her favorite black boots, which made a clacking sound with the tiny three inch heel as she walked down the halls . Sadie loved her boots, they made her feel as if everyone was paying her some attention, even though most of the time the attention was gathered because of the loud noice made by her boots.
Sadie rarely ever visited the Courtyards, but she thought today might be different. She made her way back out of the dorms, through the common room and out toward the Courtyard, listening to the click-clack of her boots.
Sadie looked around the courtyard as she walked out of the large doors that lead from the castle. She didn't see anyone she knew right away, but that didn't mean that there wasn't someone there for her to talk to. She proceeded to walk through the courtyard, hoping to find someone that seemed familiar or at least knew her name.

It was a perfect day. Not too hot, nor too cold. The weather was just right for Landon to do his favorite thing- sit in the courtyard and do nothing but relax, think, and best of all write. He had been writing now for a little over an hour, and he had successfully filled up less than two pages. It was a slow day for him, as his inspiration was just not presenting itself as he had hoped.
He was sitting on a rock under a large tree. The ground was still a little damp from the melting snow, and he disliked sitting on a bench. He preferred to stay away from the man-made objects and instead enjoyed being surrounded by nature. A bit bored, he closed his notebook, giving up on writing for the time. He picked up a small rock and tossed it into a nearby fountain. Realizing his right foot was falling asleep from sitting on it, he stood and jumped from the large rock, limping to stay balanced on his one foot which maintained feeling. Grabbing his backpack, he flung it over his should and began walking along one of the many paths in the courtyard.
He was headed back to the school when he noticed a familiar owl circling above. After hearing the recognizable screech, he smiled, knowing that this was his barn owl Miah. Miah must have at the same time spotted Landon, for he went into a dive, flying toward him. As he quickly descended, Landon suddenly looked aghast. Before he could do anything about it, Miah had smacked a small girl in the head with one of his wings, while on his way to landing on Landon's shoulder. Disgusted with Miah, Landon shooed him away and jogged over to the girl. "I'm so sorry," he apologized. "My stupid barn-owl is inconsiderate at times. Are you alright," he asked, hoping she wasn't scratched or anything. Meanwhile, Miah circled above, not daring to fly within reach of Landon.

Sadie had been off in her own little world since she hadn't been able to find anyone to speak too. She wondered what her friends were up to, and what her owl had been doing. Sadie's owl had been originally bought for her to keep in touch with her parents, but since their deaths in the previous summer, the owl had only been used for ordering and returning Sadie's new broom to her. Sadie smiled at the thought of her broom, she had barely ridden it since she had gotten it. Sadie loved her broom. It made her feel free, and free was exactly what she wanted to feel.
Sadie was humming as she walked when suddenly she felt something hitting her in the back of the head. Looking up, she saw a fairly pretty barn owl flying to whom apparently was it's owner. Sadie checked her head to be sure she had not been scratched, some owls were known to have sharp points on the tips of the wings. "I think I'm okay. I haven't discovered any scratches. I'll be alright even if the owl scratched me." Sadie said to the boy. The boy, Sadie noticed, seemed somewhat familiar. He looked older than her, so Sadie wasn't sure where she had seen him before. "By the way, Hi. I'm Sadie." She said smiling shyly.

Relieved that Miah hadn't done much harm, if any, Landon smiled back at the girl and introduced himself after she had told him her name. "I'm Landon," he said kindly, "and that blasted owl that so rudely flew into you is Miah," he added, glancing up at Miah and giving him a stern look of disappointment. "Again I apologize for everything," he repeated once more, assuring that Sadie wouldn't hold anything against him.
"So what brings you outside on this fine day?" he asked nonchalantly, attempting to start a basic conversation. Landon wasn't one to talk much, but younger students didn't intimidate him as much as older students. Plus, Sadie was rather friendly. Most others wouldn't have taken the owl beating as well as she had- especially a Slytherin. Landon kicked a rock that was lying near his right foot as he waited for Sadie's response.
Feeling a sharp stab on his shoulder, Landon turned his head to see Miah perched happily. "You better fly on back to the owlery if you know what's best for you," he scolded. "No treat this time since you about knocked this poor girl over." He shooed Miah away and watched as he began circling again overhead. Eventually after getting the message, Miah got bored with the two and flew off, screeching loudly as he went. "What a wacko," Landon commented, rolling his eyes.

Sadie laughed as the boy whom had introduced himself as Landon, proceeded to make sure that she was fine. "Your owl reminds me a little of my own. My snowy was always crashing into me right after I got her. I think the reason might befall to the treats I keep in my pockets." Sadie had become accoustome to keeping treats with her, in case her own owl decided to come looking for her.
Sadie had not been injured and that was all she cared about. She was in a wonderfully good mood, and it wouldn't matter if it had been more than one bird that had barraded her. She wouldn't let anything spoil her mood. All her studies were done, and she had a little free time to herself. Something that she rarely enjoyed. "I finished all my work, and just felt as if I couldn't stay inside a moment longer." Sadie replied to Landon's question.
Sadie laughed as the owl tried to peck a treat out of his owner. The bird thought that he had done something good, and in his mind it might have been.

Sadie informed Landon that Miah reminded her of her own owl. "That was only a small illustration of his craziness," Landon explained. "He honestly does the most random things sometimes. Once, he snatched a bottle of ink and dropped it on the floor. If that wasn't enough he decided to fly down and spread the ink everywhere. His feathers were black for about a month because he wouldn't allow me to try and wash him." Landon shook his head, thinking of the many other events Miah seemed to get himself into. "He has his own unique personality," he concluded.
"That must be nice," he replied in response to Sadie's comment of finishing all her work. Landon on the hand seemed to never be free of all work. He would get things done, but there always seemed to be something else to do. If there wasn't something due the next day of class, he could always count on something being due within the near future. He hated having the idea of constant work looming over him, but it was something he had learned to deal with. Also, he liked to make sure he included time to sit and write. This was always a necessity and something he never neglected to do- most likely because he enjoyed it so much.
"What's your name?" he asked, sure that he had seen her before. As he recalled, she was also a Hufflepuff like he was. "I don't think we've officially met before, but if we have, I apologize as I am often forgetful when it comes to recalling people and their names."

Sadie giggled a small childish bubbly laugh. Her owl had also committed those sometimes random acts of weirdness, but Colena, the owl, usually one done those things when she thought Sadie needed to be cheered up. Sadie had spent a lot of time with her owl this year, for her friends were all extremely busy.
"I didn't have a lot to do. My friends have been busy so it's left me plenty of free time." Sadie spent time alone lately and that allowed her work to get done so much easier.
Sadie smiled a slightly irritated smile, when asked her name. She was sure she had already introduced herself, but she said nothing, and repeated her name, "Kassadie Leiann Rivers, but everyone calls me Sadie, and no we have never formally met. I'm a second year so I don't believe we have shared any classes, only passed in the common room, or seen each other at meals." Sadie realized that she was babbling, and quickly made herself hush. Not everyone enjoyed being babbled at or too, whichever the case may be at the time. She smiled a little more sweetly this time for she completely understood not being able to remember names, for even she still had trouble at it.

"Kassadie Leiann Rivers, but Sadie for short," Landon echoed, as not to forget the girls name. She was right in the fact that they never really had met other than the occasional passing in the common room or house gatherings. Landon's lack of social habits often prevented him from getting to know a lot of people, especially those younger than him or those not a part of Hufflepuff. This was something he yearned to change though. The idea of being shy wasn't something he embraced, but it tended to rule over him regardless.
As the two walked, Landon started to whistle a song softly. It was such a beautiful day, and he thought eagerly, searching for something to do. "So Sadie," he said, turning to the girl, "what do you usually do on a day like today, when you have nothing else that seems to need done? I know if it were me, I would usually be writing. When it comes to doing other fun or recreational activities, my experience is lacking." He realized he was seeking the advice of a girl whom happened to be about three years younger than he was, but the fact didn't bother him. He was curious to see what others did for fun.
"To be truthful," he continued, "I'm really bored and I have nothing to do. Any ideas?" he questioned. He had no clue what Sadie's response would be, and he assumed she found it rather odd that he was asking her this when they had only just met, but on the other had, he figured something good may come of it.

Sadie was happy to be out of the castle, and even happier that she had found someone new to talk too, well, really not new, but someone that she had never met before. She hoped that meant that she might be able to make a new friend. She knew she needed more friends. Sadie listened to the tune that Landon whistled, it was catchy, but Sadie didn't know how to whistle. She had never been taught how.
Thinking Sadie tried to answer Landon's question, "Usually on days like this, I come outside to see what everyone else is doing and to try to make a new friend. We could...." Sadie trailed off at the end of her sentence. She realized that she didn't know what others older than her really did in their free time. "Maybe a picnic if your hungry. We could go to the kitchens and get the food, and then bring it back out. It would make a nice day for a picnic, even though it is a bit chilly." Sadie was shocked. She didn't realize that she could think of an idea for the two of them to do.
Looking to see what Landon thought of her idea, Sadie began to hum a muggle song that she had heard over the summer. Sadie pushed thoughts of her summer to the back of her mind. That was not the things that someone needed to think about while trying to make a new friend.
