Classes were great, but there was something wonderful about the weekend. Maybe it was because she had grown up in muggle school. You always looked forward to weekends in muggle school. The students were scattered around the grounds. Some were inside to protect against the chilly weather. It was already November, and while the days were often bright, there was always a chrisp edge to the temprature. She was wearing jeans now, and a faded purple sweater. Her Hufflepuff skarf was wrapped around her neck, as well as the matching had and gloes that her mother had knit her over the summer. It seemed that all of her friends were up to something else, so like she always use to as a first year, she headed out alone.  |

Katie was just in the library were mostly first years and Ravenclaws are. She was wearing long navy blue pants and a scarlet and gold sweatshirt along with a gold long sleeved shirt.
Katie was getting really bored by now and started playing around with her quill touching the soft feathers. She than decided to head out for a walk as she always did everyday. Katie got up and headed down the corridors and flights of stairs and found her self out in the court yard. Katie was walking around thinking of stuff like quidditch, homework, friends, her father, and a new song she could write. Katie loved to sing but no one new not even her father. She would only sing when she locked up in her room and her fathers left. She was to busy with her thoughts she accidentally bumped into a girl almost her age wearing Hufflepuff colors.
"I am so sorry I was just thinking and I wasn’t paying attention where I was going" Katie said giving Nokomis a smile.
Katie liked Hufflepuffs they were very nice like Jordan, Kyila, and Ivy. There were also some Gryffindor who also were nice like Ron, Hermione, and Harry. It was only a month she been to Hogwarts she barley even knows anyone from her own house.
"I am Katie Davenport a first year Gryffindor who are you" Katie said giving Nokomis a nice big old smile.

Katie's big friendly smile made her feel better. His first instinct was always to pull away and give into her shyness. She was use to being bumped into, but normally, people just mumbled 'I'm sorry' while walking away. Things were at least slightly different this year though. She had managed to make lots of new friends, and trying to find some security int hat, she was trying to make new friends.
"Hi...I'm um...I'm Nokomis Astarra. I'm in Hufflepuff"
She smile at the word, a sort of faint, proud smile, and held up her house skarf with her matching gloves.
"I'm a second year."

Katie smiled at Nokomis she could tell she was a bit shy.
"Were just a year apart" Katie said smiling. She kept on meting people allot older than her but are nice.
"You wont to go on a walk for me I would like to get to know you better" Katie said smiling. She really wonted to be friends with Nokomis.

She bit her lip for a moment, her mind willed with doubts about what the younger girl thought. She was always horrible at making new friends. Most of her one's currently were on the house quidditch team, and even they weren't really close friends. They talked sometimes, and sat together in class, but that was about it.
"Um....Sure" she finally replied, smiling at the younger girl. Katie certinly seemed nice, and it was her goal this year to make new friends. She needed to stop being so shy and face her fears.
"I wanted to go for a walk anyway"

Katie smiled at Nokomis and stared at her with her twinkling light green eyes. She than walked right next to her down the path of rows of flowers.
“So what kind of things do you like? Like hobbies anything” Katie asked as she was looking around at the flowers.
She wanted to make sure Nokomis was comfterable talking her before asking big questions.

She walked quietly for a moment, thinking about the question. If she didn't think before she answered she would start rambling, and that always made her embarased.
"I really like animals. I have a dog back home, and I brought my cat, Pandora, with me."
She looked over at Katie and smiled. She seemed really nice, thought so much bolder than she was herself! She wondered how a first year could be so much better at making friends than she was. She decided just to put that thought out of her mind and concentrate on something else, like really getting to know Katie.
"What about you?"

Katie continued to walk next to Nokomis still smiling at her with a welcoming smile.
"I love animals also. I own a snowy owl named Snowflake but that’s it." Katie said remembering her snowy owl. She loved Snowflake to death; she was always there when Katie was alone.
"I like to play my guitar and sing." Katie said once again smiling at Nokomis.

"Wow, really?" She asked, looking over at Katie in suprise. She couldn't imagine singing, especially in front of other people. She was sure she would get so embarased she would forget all the words.
"When did you learn?"
She always though it would be great to be able to play music, that is if she wouldn't get so embarased about it, but she never learned. Well, not unless you include music class from muggle grade school where everyone gets an insterment to play and at the end of the year they put on a concert. She had a plastic clarinet that she never really played, instead she pretended to so no one would hear her make a mistake.

Katie looked at Nokomis and pulled back her long brown hair before talking.
"My mom taught me how to play. She was a choir teacher a guitar teacher." Katie said looking ahead of her holding back tears.
"Do you play any interment or anything" Katie said trying to steer the conversion away from her mother.

She shook her head in responce to the question, looking down for a moment, overwhelmed with a
"but I always wanted to."
She then looked over at Katie again, wondering why the first year looked so sad when she meantioned her mom. Most people were happy when they talked about their parents, either that or annoyed--but she decided that meant that that meant they didn't like them. Very few people were sad though. For a moment she wanted to ask why that was, but she stopped herself. She didn't know Katie well enough to ask a question like that.

Katie was trying so hard not to cry. When ever she said mom or her moms name she couldn’t help it she would just sometimes burst out crying.
"I am teaching Kiyla how to play the guitar I could probably teach you some time" Katie looking at Nokomis with a big smile to say she was okay.
They continued to walk down the rows of flowers and Katie pulled her sweater closer to her body ready to feel the warmth. It was November and it was started to get cold.
"What other classes are you taking" Katie asked finally trying to break the silence.

She smiled at Katie's offer to teach her how to play the guitar. It would be nice to learn, though she did feel a hint of worry int he pit of her stomach. What if she wasn't any good?
"Classes?" She repeated, her mind returning to Katie. "Besides the normal ones, I am taking Care of Magical Creatures and Histroy and Mythology. I really like animals and mythology. I'm not very good at history, but I think its intresting. What about you?"

Katie than turned around at Nokomis in shock. It was like they were twins or something. Expect that fact that she outgoing and wonted to be a prankster.
"I am also taking Care of Magical Creatures, Histroy and Mythology, and Muggle Studies." Katie said with a smile.
"Even know I am Muggle born I wont to learn the wizarding world view of muggles" Katie said still looking at Nokomis with a big smile.
"I also like animals I own a snowy owl named Snowflake what kind of animal do you have?" Katie asked finally looking ahead of her.

She smiled when Katie said that she was taking Care of Magical Creatures and History of Magic. It meant that they would have a classes together so she would have another friend to sit with.
'I'm only half muggle, but my Mom raised me and she is a muggle, so I definatly understand the muggle world more than the wizarding one. It seemed so strange when I first came here. I felt like everything I did was wrong."
She was biting her lip when Katie brought up the subject of animals. That was a topic that she was much more at ese with.
"I have a cat with me here. Her name is Pandora, but I have a dog at home to."

"I hope we have classes together." Katie said still continuing to look forward. Ivy had told her that Gryffindors don't have classes with Hufflepufs Katie wondered why. She was always with Slytherins and Ravenclaws.
"I feel the same way I wish I knew more before my letter I am lucky I am even here!" Katie said remembering her father trying to take the letter away and tare it apart.
"My dad doesn’t really like animals so I can only have one animal I am trying to sweet talk him to putting a barn in our back yard so I can learn to ride horses." Katie said smiling. She was always fascinated by horses.

Hearing those last few words from her hew friend, she simmediatly lit up. She had loved horses for as far back as she could remember. In part that was where her love of magical creatures came from, there were so many that were so related to horses.
"You like horses? They are my favorite animal!" she announce, her grin now brighter than it had been previously.
"My mum likes them too so she let me start taking riding lessons last year"

Katie smiled at Nokomis. She just knew that she was a bit on the weird side. At times she is calm cool and down to earth. But at other times she is high energy and loved pulling pranks.
"That’s great that you love horses. I hope to become a good rider. I won’t to be in the show jumping circuit!" Katie said looking at her friend.
She was wondering if she would like horses anymore she wonted to be keeper on the Quidditch team and that might take all her time.

She was still smiling when Katie talked about hwat she wanted to do with her riding and she nodded eagerly. She loved jumping, but she had only just started jumping little fences over the summer.
"I really like to jump, the horse I take lessons on is really good, but we haven't gone to any shows...and since I'm not riding for most of the year now, my mom doesn't wan tme jumping much."

Katie smiled warmly at Nokomis she reminded her so much of Ivy and Vanessa. Katie always loved to make new friends but people who didn't wont to give her a shoot she just completly ingored.
"Thats great I don't know about owning a horse yet. I am geting used to my new home but maybe when I leave Hogwarts I could." Katie said once again flashing Nokomis a warm wellcoming smile.
She than stared off into space and let her mind dirt off into deep thoughts. Normally Katie thought of prank ideas, boys, music, friends, and her snowy owl Snowflake.
"I really like unicorns also I think their just so beautiful. Their white coat that looks so much like snow." Katie said holding her breathe as she could picture a unicorn in her mind. She hoped that she would really see one in Care of Magical Creactures class.
