It was close to 7:00pm and there was still some light outside. Katie was in the Gryffindor common room already finished with her homework playing around with her hair. She looked outside at the half lit moon and tried to guess it phase.
"First quarter or Third Quarter" Katie thought trying to remember last nights moon phase but her mind was to busy with everything to worry about last nights phase.
"Curfew isn’t until two hours I will take a walk out side" Katie thought putting her books back in her bag. She then walked out of the portrait hole and down the corridors onto the court yard. Katie was walking down rows of flowers and fountains. She found a nice spot by a big oak tree looking over a big hill to see the moon. Katie watched the the moon being more brightly lit by the mintute.

Natalia Antipova was taking the opportunity of the time, and the fact that curfew was for another two hours, to her advantage. She was studying to moon’s cycles on her free time, she had a keen interest in astronomy and the planets, and tonight would be good for it, as clear weather was expected. There was still some of the sun’s light out, but that was no matter, the moon was always up, just not visible, though you could see it on early mornings and times like now. This was a rare opportunity for study, to identify the exact time change of full lunar turnover and then the phases and their affects on the earth…it was all very fascinating.

Natalia had her telescope down in the courtyard, and on a nearby bench she had her notebooks, ink and quill. The moon was in its first quarter, perfect, that meant she could do a study for the full lunar cycle. She was adjusting her telescope when something told her she was no longer alone there, and she turned round to see who was there. She saw a girl walk over to a nearby oak and take a seat, she too was watching the moon it seemed.

Katie than noticed Natalia and than walked over towards her. She noticed she was using a telescope to look at the moon. When Katie reached her she also noticed she was a Ravenclaw 1st year. Katie was excited to meet a first year it seems like she was the only one do far.
"So what moon phase it first or Third I didn’t look at last night moon and I forget which side it supposed to be on the lighted side" Katie said looking up at the moon.
She wasn’t taking astronomy this year it was all confusing to her about the moon, other planter, and the stars. Instead she was taking muggle studies.
