"Oh, I'm so sorry," Brooke said.

She looked down at the ground and started pulling at the grass.

"I guess my dad probably wasn't ready to have a daughter. Not that I would know."

She sighed realizing how pathetic she was being. At least she had someone who loved her.

"Okay, so what should we do? If I wasn't so freaked out by that giant squid I would suggest we take a dip in the lake," Brooke said, forcing a smile.

Elizabeth was now really sorry about what she had said, all she wanted to do now was take everything back.

"sorry about yelling it got outta hand." Elizabeth started crying and felt the hot tears streaming down her cheeks. "I didn't know... I-I I'm sorry"

Elizabeth wiped the tears from her eyes and managed a smile at Katie. She stared at the ground wondering how she could be so mean to one of her best friends.

"Liz please don't cry I yelled at you in the first place its just that I am really confused about many things." Katie said looking at her. She was wondering if she should tell her about what Jordan offered her.

Brooke sat quietly as the Katie and Elizabeth talked. She had no idea what to say, which was a very rare thing for her.

She thought back to the letters stashed away upstairs. It seemed she couldn't keep her mind off of them. Why was everyone being so mysterious and distant with her about her past? What could possibly be such a big thing as to want to keep it from her?

Brooke's eyes glassed over as her head went up in the clouds again, trying to understand the mystery that was her life.
